5.0 out of 5 stars Just another side to an honest rock band, July 12 2005

in a industry inundated with superficial, self-absorbed "music" that time after time proves that most people, even artists, allow themselves to be driven by the almighty dollar, it is always refreshing to hear music (real music) from artists who truly believe in what they're producing. In regards to the other reviews, I think it's great that people still talk about music so passionately. However, to compare ACLOTM to their old albums is doing them a dis-service. To expect a band to relive what you consider to be your favourite album, over and over and over (becoming Nickleback), is to destroy what makes music as exciting as it is. If band's didn't experiment with sound, we wouldn't have The Wall, or Synchronicity, or Blonde on Blonde (and if you don't know what albums i'm talking about then you really shouldn't be talking about music like you know anything)
Basically, ACLOTM gets full marks from me because it is a well-crafted, original, fun album that makes me nod my head think about the world from a different angle... it has therefore succeeded in doing what good music is meant to do.
"I heard a word from on high, clear like a light in the sky, it said "Quit blowing each other up".

When I first heard this CD, I was amazed at how different it sounded from the rest of the Incubus albums. This is definitly a good thing! I love it, it is one of the best alternative albums I have heard in a long time, and that is refreshing. I definitely recommend this album!

4.0 out of 5 stars Somewhere down the line, July 18 2004
This review is from: A Crow Left Of The Murder (Audio CD)
Sometime in the future, perhaps 20 or 30 years from now, people will finally realize how great this music is. It doesn't really appeal to the average modern listener and takes a few spins to appreciate. The musicianship is off the charts, one of the best guitarists (Mike Einziger, Sick Sad Little World!!! and not the radio edit) in the modern rock era and probably one of the best lead singers of the modern rock era (Brandon Boyd) make this CD special. New bassist Ben Kenney fits right in , i think he'll make more of an impact next album. Drummer Jose is awesome and DJ Kilmore has produced more intricate sounds. This CD really has more of a live feel to it, and is some pretty honest work. Like the prog rock in Pistola, Mike seems like he slips a little on his pedals, but he says that's how he played it so they kept it. Compared to their other albums , I would have to rate this second behind SCIENCE. I'll go through some of the songs for ya.
1. Megalomaniac-everyones heard this song, it rips, almost seems like it should belong on a Rage album (Rage fans may get upset!)
2. Crow left of the murder-catchy up-tempo song, have to wait until the bridge to hear the good stuff
3. Agoraphobia- bass driven, excellent harmonies by Brandon and Ben, almost sound like the beach boys toward the end
4. Talk Shows on Mute-only good thing to say about this is Mike's guitar work, don't like it personally
5. Beware!Criminal- Kind of sounds like crowded elevator
6. Sick Sad Little World-one of the most inspiring tracks on any album of any genre , simply because of Mike's guitar solo at the 3 minute mark. Flat out stunning craftsmenship, it brings chills up your spine, play it loud!!!!
7. Pistola-Progressive rock, awesome bridge
8. Southern Girl- Chick song! I don't like it, but Mike helps the song out again and Ben provides wonderful Bass playing
9. Priceless- Quick and energetic, Mike's solo is fantastic, seems a little out of place, but sweet
10. Ze Deveel- Think creepy Clown/Carnival thoughts, with great guitar playing again towards the middle, mike shows off again and Brandon finally gets back to the fungus and SCIENCE days!!! 2nd best song on the album
11. Made for TV Movie-awesome driving distorted guitar, little country riff in the middle
12. Smile Lines- one of those they tossed in to make an album, but original and catchy, the beginning guitar riff seems like it's ripped from Led Zeppelin, then leads into a funky groove
13. Here in my room-think radiohead, mike plays the piano with a psychadelic guitar
14. Leech- 3rd favorite, Bens leads with great bass playing, good rocking song towards middle, almost like a teez for the next album

I highly recommend this album, try to get through 2-4, and you can skip these if you want, and you should be okay, the album truely begins with Sick Sad..also, look for a 24 minute rock odyssey by incubus within the year.

4.0 out of 5 stars Its not Morning View Or Science but its still really good, July 9 2004
This review is from: A Crow Left Of The Murder (Audio CD)
Incubus has been one of my favorite bands since they came out with Science. So when A Crow Left of the Murder came out i got it right away. Incubus has changed a lot since science and they have matured as musicians but i liked them better on science. Im not saying that this is a bad CD because it is a great one. The only reason why i didnt give it 5/5 was because i think Science is better. Good tracks are Megalomaniac, Crow Left Of The Murder, Sick Sad Little World, and Priceless. If your a incubus fan you have to get this CD, But if your new with Incubus you should get Science first and if you like that then get Crow Left Of The Murder.

I am a die-hard Incu fan; I own all of their CDs and DVDs including imports and the available "bootlegs". I love love love this CD. Couldn't be more obsessed. For those of you who like their older stuff, true, this is different, but maybe you've noticed that they seem to enjoy changing it up. That's one of the reasons why I like them, and that's one of the reasons why they have been successful. This review is not gonna be that helpful- in fact I'm not gonna review it at all. I'm just gonna suggest that you AT LEAST give it a try, especially if you call yourself an incubus fan, keeping in mind that different/new/not what you expected does not mean bad.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Crow Left Of The Murder, July 5 2004
This review is from: A Crow Left Of The Murder (Audio CD)
When Morning View came out I was really excited to get it. Yet I was highly dissapointed with the album, so I was not expecting much from A Crow Left of The Murder. I was a little suprised because though it still wasn't make yourself or science it was a great comeback from morning view. I wouldn't even consider morning view a rock album.
This album had good amount of decent songs on it, yet most sounded the same. And it's kinda weird now, it's like Mike is experimenting with different guitars now. Because Morning view sounded a whole lot different the Make Yourself than Crow Left of the Murder had a totally different guitar sound than Morning View.
Anyway this is a decent album, and it's much better than Morning View. Though their best is still Make Yourself.

Yeah thats right. This album is a sureshot winner! After around 232 listens to this cd,Im writing a review. I'm terribly late on the review. I dont think I have ever heard music as fascinatinly mesmerising as this. Im not talking about my favourite songs cuz that would make me one who wants to ignore the entire groove on this album. Now the album gave my year a very good start. There's not a single album this year that I came accross with such absolutely brilliant creativity. I can so go on and on...If you didnt like the previous Incubus albums , good.If you did, better! This is totally different in my not so humble opinion. Its worth a buy. Do yourself some good. Buy it!

2.0 out of 5 stars Fall from greatness, July 3 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: A Crow Left Of The Murder (Audio CD)
Just like every other Incubus fan out there, I anticipated the new album for a very long time. From what I can tell, I'm not alone when I say I am very disappointed. I bought the cd the day it came out and I've tried to listen to it and get in to it but it just never happened. I put 2 songs from the cd on to my iTunes and took the cd and sold it to a second spin cd store for 3 bucks. In a nutshell...Incubus went from one of the most creative and innovative rock bands out there to the sounds of many of the watered-down, so called "rock" bands you hear on radio today....such as Jet, The Strokes, The Vines, and the Hives...all of which suck. Save your money and just turn on the radio if you really wanna hear this crap. Incubus pulled a Pearl Jam and I'm not buying it. Save your money and go buy the new Breaking Benjamin, Flaw, Edgewater, Seven Wiser, Thornley, Lo-Pro, or Strata (July 27). Hopefully this is a stage and Incubus will return to greatness on their next effort.

5.0 out of 5 stars everyone calm down, July 3 2004

everyone needs to drop it when it comes to incubus moving in and out of different "genres" honestly, who cares? This CD is great music and it would be great no matter what incubus's background was. Just because they were much heavier on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. doesn't mean they have to stick with the same sound for the rest of their careers. Bottom line is: some reviewers have to stop worrying so much about categorizing their music, and just enjoy this CD for what it is, a wonderful album.
