A MUST HAVE,
By Olivier1977 (Paris, France) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Charlie's Angels : Season 2 (DVD)
I am a big Charlie's Angels fans and I couldn't wait for its release on DVD. After a bit of disapointment with the season 1 box set (what a cheap packaging !!) I've been really pleased with this one, which is much, much better(though unfortunatly has no bonus :( I think that interviews of the angels, producer, or the 2000 tb show whould perfectly fit in here). The show just deserved it. The quality of the DVDs are good as is the sound. Though a lot of fans see season one with Farrah as the "real" show, I must admit that season 2 contains some of the funiest episodes (Angels on ice e.g), nad my favorites :. Cherryl Ladd does great as Jill's little sister, Jaclyn Smith is as beautifull as always, while Kate Jackson is defenitly THE STAR OF THE SHOW, the most beautifull and above all the best actress (no wonder she was the on who get nominated for Grammy's!). Some think that Farrah was the star of the show, but Kate was it, Charlie's angels survived her departure, but after Sabrina left the show just became embarassing with Shelley Hack trying to act... So, a wonderfull box set and now I am waiting for season 3.

not as good as season one,

I'm very glad season 2 came out and hope the following seasons do too but clearly not as great as season one. The shows are alot sillier and just not as interesting. I still believe the first season was the best as the original angels were the best angels and had the better chemistry. And once Kate Jackson left well it really fell apart but still cool to have these shows on dvd.

Why are we still waiting for seasons 3 through 5??? What's taking them so long? Other shows such as Knight Rider, Three's Company, Dukes of Hazzard, Starsky & Hutch, and Quantum Leap have released more than 2 seasons' worth. Hello? What's up with that?

Good Morning Angels! Once again the beautiful angels are back for more fun and excitement in season two .This time Farrah Fawcett has exited the show and Cheryl Ladd has entered the angels fold as Jill's little sister Kris Munroe. All 26 episodes from Season Two are presented in their 1.33:1 full screen format. Unfortunately "Angels in Paradise" and "Angels on Ice" are presented in they're syndicated versions and its disappointing that Sony pictures would do this to fans of the show. The picture is very clear and the sound is really good, but once again there are no extras or commentaries included from the Angels and that's a major disappointment. The studios releasing these old television shows just don't get it. We the fans want bonus features included in these DVD releases. A where are they now feature or Angels reunion commentary segment would have be nice, but this set offers nothing other than the episodes and some movie trailers. In season two Kate's acting ability really shines through and Jaclyn Smith and Cheryl Ladd kind of take a back seat to her. It's no big surprise that Season Two is less serious than Season One and more comedic in its approach. Aside from its more comedic approach there are still plenty of great episodes, gun play and action for everyone. I give the show five stars for pure fun but the lack of extras really takes away from this set. I also prefer the season one packaging compared to this set, but the six disc packaging and disc artwork in season two is equally impressive. I recommend this set to "Charlie's Angels" fans of all ages, besides any time you get these Angels in bathing suits it's definitely worth it. There is definitely no shortage of cheese-filled fun and plenty of eye candy for the guy's in Season Two. That combination made this television show hugely successful and even more popular in 1976 and I have the Farrah poster to prove it. DVD Features Include: -Available Audio Options: English (Dolby Digital 2.0 Mono) -All 26 episodes on six single sided discs DVD Episodes: Angels in Paradise Part One Angels in Paradise Part Two Angels on Ice Part One Angels on Ice Part Two Pretty Angels All in a Row Angel Flight Circus of Terror Angel in Love Unidentified Flying Angels Angels on the Air Angel Baby Angels in the Wings Magic Fire Sammy Davis, Jr. Kidnap Caper Angels on Horseback Game, Set, Death Hours of Desperation Diamond in the Rough Angels in the Backfield The Sandcastle Murders Angels Blues Mother Goose Is Running for His Life Little Angels of the Night The Jade Trap Angels on the Run Antique Angels

The second season of Charlie's Angels is interesting at first because it includes the first change in the series' cast. Once you get over that (and it is not lingered upon by the characters), the second season is much more enjoyable than the first, with the Angels involved in some off-the-beaten-track locales (an antique-car rally, a circus, Sammy Davis Jr.'s Hollywood mansion, a football field) and indulging in some good comedy. The cases seem more varied, though, as in season one, each episode involves a change of venue. The Angels, however, have a wider range of undercover assignments; we expect them to play prostitutes, but Jaclyn Smith's pose as an alien, Cheryl Ladd's disguise as a Swedish film star, and Kate Jackson's turns as a bag lady and a farm boy are true surprises. The most successful episodes are those that don't follow the usual Angels pattern; that is, a crime followed by a briefing by Charlie, then off to solve the crime. Consequently, the best episodes include The Sandcastle Murders and Hours of Desperation. Some episodes have great setups (Angel Blues, Angels on the Run) that turn altogether conventional, and some (Angels in the Wings, Angel Flight, Angels in the Backfield) are obvious from beginning to end and are perfectly dreadful as a result. The best episode of the season is the season opener Angels in Paradise, with its many twists and turns, its sumptuous locale, and its well-conceived villainess (played by France Nuyen). The first runner-up is the hilarious Pretty Angels All in a Row. This second season is a showcase for Kate Jackson. Smith, though she does some good work, disappears into the woodwork far too often in this collection. Ladd does some surprisingly good work as well, but Jackson outshines the others in terms of range. She does some outstanding work in Angel in Love, and her French designer disguise in Magic Fire is so obviously bad that it cannot be taken seriously and touches the heights of hilarity. Far more interesting is her come-on to an executive in The Sandcastle Murders -- the writers don't allow us to see how she gets out of what has plainly become a steamy situation, which is unfortunate. She also does the bubble-head routine in Angels in Paradise, a characterization usually reserved for the other Angels. Nobody shakes down a criminal like Sabrina, and immediately following her empty-headed interplay with Mr. Blue, Jackson gets down to business with her customary cool. Though there are no commentaries, no subtitles, and no extras (except for yawningly boring trailers of the Charlie's Angels movies), I recommend this collection as better than the first season. However, I may have reached my Angels limit; we'll see what kind of mood I am in when season 3 comes out.

Charlie's Angels Rules!,

I bought this as soon as it came out. Of all the Angels Cheryl Ladd was my favorite. Reading and earlier review it stated that Kate Jackson (Sabrina) and Cheryl Ladd (Kris) didn't get along. When you watch you can see it. Most of Ladd's scenes were with Jaclyn Smith (Kelly). But still this was a great series. I remember in college rushing home to watch it on WGN who showed the whole series in chronological order.I can't wait for seasons 3-5.

Once Upon a Time....,

Once upon a time...there was this great show with gorgeous Kate Jackson (who received Emmy nominations/not Grammy's), lovely Jaclyn Smith, and cute Cheryl Ladd, and of course, don't forget sidekick Bosely (David Doyle). Even though Farrah left in the second season, Cheryl Ladd, as her sister, filled the seat. Give her(Cheryl Ladd) credit for being the follow up to that! The new DVD set is excellent! Kate shines without the Farrah phenonmenon and Jaclyn is radiant as ever! The new trio in the second season made the show stronger, and it is evident in this DVD set. Only downside is knowing that Kate Jackson and Cheryl Ladd did not get along with one another. Knowing this now, I'm constantly watching their interaction between each other as actresses. It's subtle...but who cares, the second season know doubtingly deserved higher ratings then the first season. I would recommend this DVD for any TV enthusiasist. I can not wait, and hopefully, the third season, and (yes) fourth season with chic Shelley Hack (I actually liked her character~they should have kept her), and the street-wise Tonya Roberts will be released soon on DVD too.

The Angels are Back and Better than Ever!!!,

This review is from: Charlie's Angels : Season 2 (DVD)
After the hugely popular debut season of Charlie's Angels (in fact, it held the record for the show with the highest ratings during its 1st season for many years until ER took the title in the 1990's) and the departure of the show's most popular angel, "Jill" played by Farrah Fawcett, the brains behind the jiggle drama decided to introuduce the new character, "Kris" played by Cheryl Ladd, as Jill's younger sister. Replacing a main star after only one season was a huge risk, but the results were spectacular as audiences fell in love with the spunky new Angel, and the ratings for the show increased over those of the previous season! In its 2nd season, Charlie's Angels started to mature as a television show with better writing and acting. Although the same dyn-o-mite chemistry that existed between the Angels of the original trio was missing in the 2nd season, that which did exist between Kate Jackson, Jaclyn Smith, and Cheryl Ladd took the show in a different direction. Namely, the show stopped taking itself so seriously, which allowed for more comedic situations to occur between the characters, and it broke up the sometimes monotonous angels-in-peril theme of the episodes from the 1st season. The DVD packaging for this season is an improvement over that of the 1st season, with heavenly artwork throughout the DVD set and with the discs presented in a bound booklet-style holder. The only real down-side to the DVD set is the editing of the first 2 episodes, "Angels in Paradise" and "Angels on Ice," each of which originally aired as 2-hour episodes, but appear in the DVD set as 2-part episodes which were edited for syndication. Also, the DVD set offers no extra features, which isn't that great of a loss as the episodes alone are well worth the price. At this point, I imagine that Columbia-Tristar is going to hold onto any extra features until the release of the 5th season, in order to help fill out the DVD set (it was a shorter season due to writers' strikes) and to help boost sales (the season was unpopular among viewers, sliding out of the top 20 in the ratings). At any rate THANK YOU, Columbia-Tristar, for season 2 of Charlie's Angels-- we're all looking forward to the remaining angelic episodes!!!
