This review is from: Bad Santa (Widescreen Director's Cut) (DVD)
Nauseating, offensive, reprehensible, vile, appalling, dreadful, belligerent, revolting, loathsome, disgraceful, hideous, foul, repulsive, sickening, atrocious, shameful and disgusting. In other words, one of the best Christmas movies I've ever seen!

A Hilarious Adult movie for Christmas..must see!,

This review is from: Badder Santa: The Unrated Version (DVD)
The first time I saw this movie I laughed so hard I thought I was gonna die! It's too funny. I've seen it many times, and let me tell you it just gets funnier with each time I watch! I think I need my own copy now, I've worn out the video store's copy. Yes, it's and adult film, with words no little kiddies should hear (or say!), but really, if you want to laugh your (red) socks off, this is worth the dough....Highly recommend. I think it's up there with "Christmas Vacation" and "Elf".

Santa sure does show his true colors in this one and boy is he one bad boy too.He tells it like it is. He was real and knew he had problems, trying to make his life workout the best for him. Kids, if you believe in a nice fat jolly Santa, then don't think about watching this movie because it is not for kids. If you like strong language, beer, party, sex and great laughs then this movie is for you. I find this movie a great stress reliever. No! Really!

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a while! C'mon - a wooden pickle X-mas gift????? Fantastic! The only thing funnier is the t-shirt the kid wears at the end of the movie! Get it!

Very funny, but not a movie for the easily offended.,

Anyone who is easily offended should avoid this film like the plague. It is the complete opposite of the usual saccharine offerings brought out for the festive season. Bad Santa is the story of Willy, a womanising, alcoholic, foul mouthed, safe cracker who, alongside his sidekick Marcus, spends the festive season posing as a store Santa (complete with pint sized 'elf')in order to rob the stores they work in. Willy hates kids, and is rude and obnoxious to all the little darlings who sit on his lap, (as well as to anyone else he comes across). Things change when a lonely, bullied boy, Therman Herman decides to latch onto Santa and become his friend. Very reluctantly, Willy finds himself considering someone other than himself.Billy Bob Thornton is brilliant as the grouchy, unkempt Willy, whilst Brett Kelly shows a mature acting ability as the misfit Therman. Laura Graham is Sue, the girl with the Santa Claus fetish who falls for Willy but insists he always wears his hat. Peppered with language that would make a navvy blush and scenes that touch on the taboo, this is a film that makes no pretence at being politically correct and doesn't care if it offends. It is outrageous in parts yet manages to produce some real 'laugh out loud' moments. The DVD features a few extras such as outtakes and deleted scenes and the usual subtitles but nothing to get too excited about. This is a film for anyone who likes a 'belly laugh' and isn't easily shocked but it definitely isn't one for the children.

FEARLESSLY BAWDY BUT FUNNY,

Bad Santa has many crass gags, it almost drags you into a dark alley of tasteless humour and thrashes you up. Imagine Billy Bob Thorton in a comic lead role, tough to visualize. But the man is bloody hilarious! Some parts are better scripted than others, but for a film that's so determined NOT to have a heart, it does surprise you with one. A wonderfully perverse treat that goes by in a flash, so it can't be all that bad any way. Recommended!

Billy Bob Thorton is funny as hell throughout the whole movie and you will be quoting him for weeks after. please, if you dont mind language or sex, watch this movie, you will love it.

A Funny Contrast to The Christmas Story,
By Flickman (Naperville, IL United States) - See all my reviews

It's true, most reviews I have seen, they have described "Bad Santa" as a Christmas movie for cynics. Billy Bob Thornton takes a huge risk with the leading role, as a hard drinking, swearing, unkempt department store Santa with a fetish for plus-size women.Let me be completely frank...although I admit most kids nowadays have been seasoned with the F-word, I think the language in the movie alone would dissuade most parents from screening it for young children. This is for adults, folks. Anyway, Bad Santa teams up with his partner, Marcus (who masquerades as a black elf) to rob department stores every Christmas. They have an interesting modus operandi..get jobs at the mall at Christmas time as Santa and elf, break in after hours, and abscond with the store's safe contents and assorted loot. Next season, different city, different mall, and so on. Thornton's Santa, real name Willie, is portrayed with no redemptive qualities. He is talked every year into the robbery scheme by his diminutive partner Marcus. Let's face it..Willie is only good at two things..drinking and safe cracking. The fact that Willie can barely tolerate people and hates children creates a great deal of comedy in itself. His exchanges with the children who sit on his lap and the department store manager (well played by the late John Ritter)are both shocking and funny in their audacity. Anyway, through a bizarre set of circumstances involving a young boy (it was a stroke of genius for the director to cast the child as a fat, socially inept stalker) and a kinky bargirl who has a fetish for Santas, Willie goes through a slight reformation..sort of. Don't get me wrong..there are no "It's a Wonderful Life" brush strokes of cinema in here. "Bad Santa" knows why some people spend Christmas in bars..and gets more than a few twisted laughs from its observations. |
