5.0 out of 5 stars Michael Bublé Shines Again!, May 13 2005
Michael Bublé shines again with this wonderful CD/DVD treat! Produced by David Foster and Humberto Gatica and backed-up by a full big band orchestra, this is a follow-up to his successful and most raved-about CD "Michael Bublé." Listening to the CD is just terrific with eight fabulous tracks, but the DVD is a real delight watching him perform twelve timeless classics and not to mention the interview footages in between his outstanding and remarkable performances.

One of the songs Mr. Bublé performed on the DVD is very memorable and brings back a lot of memories to me, "The Way You Look Tonight," which is my all-time favorite and so much a part of my life! And it is the very first non-classical piece that I learned to play on piano. I remember my sister Ruth arranged a medley of this lovely song with "Blue Moon" that we both loved to play together.

"The Way You Look Tonight"
~ Words and Music by Jerome Kern & Dorothy Fields ~

Someday, when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight...

You're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me but to love you
And the way you look tonight...

With each word your tenderness grows
Tearin' my fears apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart...

Lovely, never ever change
Keep that breathless charm
Won't you please arrange it 'cause I love you...
Just the way you look tonight.

Most of the songs performed have been initially recorded for the CD "Michael Bublé and re-recorded for this CD/DVD combo, with the exception of "Can't Help Falling In Love," "Mack The Knife," "You'll Never Know," "My Funny Valentine" and Sinatra's signature song and one of my all-time favorites, "Nice 'N' Easy," which he performed splendidly in every way. There's no doubt that Mr. Bublé is a total performer with his amazing stage presence and his marvelous voice, which is his greatest asset. He's gone a long way and as long as he keeps on recording beautiful music, he would be one of the best singers of our time!

I've ordered this CD/DVD combo from Amazon.com over a year ago and that makes this review a "late-bloomer" but as the saying goes. . . "It's better late than never!"

Strongly recommended!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sublime showcase of the new Voice, July 17 2004

This review is from: Come Fly With Me [CD & DVD] (Audio CD)
Michael Buble is taking the music world by storm - weaving his way through the masses of manufactured two-bit pop 'stars' and the hip-hop onslaught, and proving that big band jazz vocalists can still make it in the 21st century.
This DVD also proves that it is possible to watch such music on film and not lose complete interest in the genre. Buble is the sort of guy record companies must live for - good looking, crowd-grabbing, popular, youthful, and then there's that little matter of his voice. This concert DVD is focused solely on Michael Buble, and rightly so. The guy is a master. He oozes personality and class, and has you in the palm of his hand once he's warmed up.

This DVD is very well produced, combining live stage performances and interviews with Buble and his band members. Unlike some music DVDs that do this, the interviews do not cut into the music, and all tracks are shown in full. The interviews show an insight into the man behind the microphone, and Buble is displayed as a fun, humorous, easy-going guy - much like his singing.
The audio is very good, except in some parts where Buble sings very softly and words are hard to understand, but he quickly breaks out into his trademark blow-you-away finishes, so this is not too bad.
The visuals are very good. Filming a concert where all the crowd remain in their seats, and there is not a lot of electricity coming from them other than end-of-song applause means the star must be entertaining. And Buble does not fail, especially since the editing is done with shots fading in over the top of each other to keep things interesting - lots of angles, crowd shots, band member focus, and an effective use of black & white footage in parts. Very clear, and quality watching.
The CD is an extra bonus, with previously unreleased tracks and some live stuff - just more incentive to buy this item if you're umming and aahing.

Great stuff for Buble fans - it'll only consolidate your love for the man and his voice. Much recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing New, Jun 5 2004
By
Sonny Boy (Chicago, IL United States) - See all my reviews
Musically - pretty much every arrangement in that album is taken from Sinatra, Peggy Lee or George Michael. Not even a variation in notes or in the chord progression. Almost everything is copied note for note.

Vocally - pretty much every vocal riff in that album is taken from Sinatra, Darin, Torme, Harry Connick, etc. The only difference between him and the orginals - he's a 20-something Canadian with a great producer.

People who tend to buy this probably don't have any album from Frank Sinatra's Reprise label... Also, they may have never heard Peggy Lee sing "Fever," or George Michael singing "Kissing A Fool." The reason why I say that is because Michael Buble COPIED from them NOTE FOR NOTE!!! Why would you buy anything you've heard done better before?

If you're a jazz enthusiast, don't get this album. Stick with the greats. If you don't know Gene Autry from Frank Sinatra, Perry Como from Mel Torme, then by all means, waste your money on this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars DON'T buy this CD package!, July 7 2004
By A Customer
Michael Buble has recorded the theme for the new Spider-Man 2 movie and his version plays over the end credits but is not on the album.

However, Warner Music just issued the song as a single. But WAIT!...

Plans are in play to re-issue 'Come Fly With Me' as the current CD/DVD package BUT will include "Can't Help Falling In Love," "My Funny Valentine," "Spiderman" and a new mix of "Sway".

If you still want the CD single of 'Spider-Man', it features a Junkie XL remix. Junkie XL also did 5 remixes of the song 'Sway' on the same single.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good. Can be much better by cutting meaningless fillers., July 18 2005

M. Buble is excellent in his singing! It looks like the producer had tried hard to promote the artist or to lengthen the recording time by adding many minutes of blah blah fillers in between songs which break the listensers' attention. The recording quality is a bit better than the sixties. At times, the brass sounds are not as clear and as sharp as the rest of the orchestra. As sound quality, it is around 3/5 as compared to Diana Krall's Live in Paris. Regrettable! I hate to press the fast forward button. In constrast, I have often used the repeat chapter button when listening to "Live In Paris"!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Buy For All Michael Buble Fans!, July 7 2004
By A Customer
I have had Michael Buble in my DVD player and on my big screen TV for almost three months now, and each and every time I listen to Michael sing or watch him perform I gain a better understanding of how wonderfully talented this young man truly is.

Whether in my car, at work, or on my TV, I always get a feeling of satisfaction after enjoying his music. The DVD is very informative and the concert footage makes me feel like I am right in the middle of one of his concerts. With all the live performance and interview/backstage footage you really get to know what Michael Buble is all about. The CD includes some new material as well, and I especially like "Nice And Easy". With his gorgeous voice and unique style he will be a permanent fixture in the pop music scene for many years to come. This CD/DVD package is really marvelous and you can't go wrong buying it.

If you enjoy listening to crooners and Big Band Swing, I would also suggest Monte Procopio "Swingin' With Style" CD. His 13-piece band really swings and deserves a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Velvet Voice, Charismatic Performer, Cool Guy, July 3 2004

Seldom do I write an opinion, but felt it necessary to do so this time. Having been fortunate to see Mr. Bublé in concert I am left in awe of his talent. This dvd presents fairly a snapshot of what he's about in concert, but it couldn't ever capture the magic he makes when you're sitting there just mesmerized. He is THAT amazing.

It seems he's always being compared to the late greats, which in itself is quite an endorsement of his gift. I suggest he will become the one that others are compared to. He's that good.....
Yes, this is a good buy and an enjoyable substitute for Michael live!

5.0 out of 5 stars A question of personal taste, July 2 2004

This CD plus DVD is reasonably great. It gives you different versions of what michael have done.
One may wonder why the evaluation varies so greatly people either love it or hate it. Well, I would say, the "concert" DVD is not meant to be listen as if you were in a concert hall but as a showcase of many facets of michael. It's so great to be seeing him as a real person, talking to you and in the meanwhile listeing to samples of his songs.
So, don't complain that you can have a frame stay steady for three minutes, because it never meant to be so. It is only that this style is not your cup of tea.
Besides, there are a track in DVD that show steady shot on michael sings many of his songs-- that part is great too and like a chamber concert.
Last but not least, about his style similar to Frank Siniatra and Elvis etc. Well, no body sing like no one sing before. Similarity is unavoidable. Art is in the sublty. If you can find the distinct subtle difference between michael and those past great singers, I can only say sorry for your ear and taste.
Basically, this album is for those who are more interested in Michael the person, in addition to his songs.
