4.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed there is no sound track CD for "Chasing Liberty
Mandy Moore, Annabella Sciorra and Jeremy Piven are absolutely wonderful in the movie.
Storyline could have been better.
There are many excellent scenes of Europe, which make me want to trek thru
many places (Washington, Prague, Venice, Austria, Berlin, Harvard U, London).
An excellent collection of great music is in the movie, in the same order:...

4.0 out of 5 stars Really likable romantic comedy, July 9 2004
By A Customer
If you are a fan of the romantic comedy genre you will like this movie. Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode were terrific in this movie. They had a nice chemistry. Mandy was likable and less annoying than most in this genre. They should had spent a little more focus on Matthew. He had good screen presence and appeal, I hope to see more of him in other movies. My only complaint was that the ending was cut-off. It did drag on a bit in the beginning but it was needed to set up a more believeable storyline. It does have brief nudity, which was a surprise. I had low expectations and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I like it. The movie takes place mostly in Europe and there are some beautiful scenes/locations.

I LOVE Mandy as an actress. I think she's great. But she just didn't do it in this movie. The movie was roughly 2 hours long, maybe a little longer. It mainly involved her and her love interest going back and forth between whether or not they liked each other. There was no real plot or basis to the story, and her love interest didn't have a defined personality very much. I recommend a Walk to Remember instead. One of my favorite movies.

2.0 out of 5 stars Thumbs down!, Jun 30 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing Liberty (DVD)
Having been a big fan of Mandy Moore, I thought this movie would be pretty good. Almost everything that could turn a movie sour happens here. For one, Mandy isn't really acting in this movie. She sort of poses and pouts. There really is no depth to her character. The movie loses direction in the first thirty minutes and continues at an alarmingly boring pace. Anna wants freedom. Dad promises Anna freedom. Dad doesn't keep his promise. Anna's mad. Anna gets supervised freedom. Anna wants to have sex with an undercover agent. Wham Bam they fall in love after a few angsty scenes, end of story. No depth and direction make Chasing Libety somewhat boring, but the Mandy Moore fan may enjoy it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Spoiled 'Liberty', Jun 12 2004
By

This review is from: Chasing Liberty (DVD)
This is a terrible film. Mandy Moore, usually a sweet girl on the screen, decided to be the "Biggest Spoiled Brat First Daughter" ever in this totally lame movie, "Chasing Liberty." As Anna Foster, a poor president's daughter living in luxurious confinement, she decides to break free from her treacherous father (Mark Harmon) and go on a Euro-trip of her own. Knowing that Secret Service (one of the most sophisticated agencies in the world) is too inept to track her down, she runs away not knowing anything at all. Of course this dude (Matthew Goode) appears everywhere she goes and she can't put two and two together because she is a complete half-witted brat. Two plus two is three? Duh. He didn't tell her who he was until the final twenty minutes of the movie, why? He was playing mindgames with her, that's it. "Chasing Liberty" is bad for you and it dumbs down even common sense. The only reason this movie is not getting a one star is because of Jeremy Piven and Annabella Sciorra's turns as bickering federal agents and the lush scenery of Paris and other European cities. If you're a Mandy fan, check out "Saved!" or "A Walk to Remember" instead. At least they have a smart script with smart people!

5.0 out of 5 stars To Be With You, July 24 2007
This was one of the sweetiest movies I have seen in years. Mandy Moore and Matthew Goode were a great match. Some of the most awesome scenery that I have seen in a movie in a long time. The story line was so sweet. Would love to see a sound track made, some really great music and Caroline Lost, To Be With You, this is a fantastic song and singer. Someone PLEASE tell me where I can get a copy of this singer singing this song. I have tried for weeks and no one seems to be able to find anything on her. Barnes and Noble, Hastings, the internet... Help!!
One of my favorite movies, locations, music.

3.0 out of 5 stars Glad I didn't see in the theatre, but hillarious on DVD, July 5 2004

If you picked out this movie to watch, you already had to have known that it was going to be cheesy and horribly unrealistic. So that aside, I was actually entertained. And when I say entertained, I mean I was swooning over the absolutely gorgeous Matt Goode for 90 or so minutes and taking in the scenes of Europe (especially mi bella italia). There are some definate WTF moments (the camping scene? Moore's "dramatic" hair colour change?). But any movie that features concert footage by the Roots gets my whole-hearted approval. And that adds Jeremy Piven to the mix (He's bloody brilliant !!). But more than anything I enjoyed the special features on the DVD. The running commentary by Moore and Goode, where they critique some of the lesser points of the film is hillarious. And you get to hear more of Goode's disgutingly sexy voice (I just love the way he drawls the word "darling". Can you tell I spent most of the movie admiring the cadence of his voice?). And of course the Roots concert and the gag reels. If you've already seen the movie (whether you are a fan or not) watch it again w/ commentary and then enjoy the special features. I mean, that is why your paying more to see it on DVD anyway, isn't it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Mandy Moore Does It Again!, July 4 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing Liberty (DVD)
I have seen all of Mandy Moore's movies (including this one) and I have to say she is one of the best actresses of our time! I own this movie on dvd and you should 2! Ths movie does get a little boring at times but still you should see it! This movie bombed at the box office because some people can't see a good movie from a bad movie and this one was GOOD! It has great scenery, comedy and even some action! I say if you want 2 see a actual good movie then see this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Movie, Jun 26 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Chasing Liberty (DVD)
I hadn't heard much about this movie before I watched it, so I didn't really know what to expect. I'm so glad that I saw it! I really loved it. Ok, so maybe it won't win an Oscar, or provoke particularly deep thoughts, but it's a very likable movie. Mandy Moore's character is happy-go-lucky and friendly, and, despite the restrictions placed on her, she seems to love life. In response to comments about her being an airhead who ignores potential terrorism threats, I think it's refreshing to be able to forget for an hour or two what's really going on in the world. "Chasing Liberty" isn't aiming to give a spot-on realistic view of American politics; it's a fun love story set in some gorgeous scenery. And speaking of gorgeous scenery, Matthew Goode was a particularly welcome love interest for Moore's Anna. Nice to look at, he also scored most of the movie's funniest lines, and seems to be a great actor. If you're looking for some pure escapism and a feel-good movie, hire "Chasing Liberty".
