4.0 out of 5 stars Exceptionally well done
Easily the most comprehensive Carly Simon collection out there. It's in chronological order and leads off with the hits from a generation ago, including "That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be," "You're So Vain," "Anticipation" and the rest of the favorites. Although her pop hits dried up by the late 1980's, there are some very good...

2.0 out of 5 stars If I Hear Anticipation Again I'll Scream
I don't understand the point of this compilation. Most of the greatest hits included here have already been defintively collected on 1975's The Best of Carly Simon. That was a long time again. I don't need or want to hear these songs again. Granted, they are classics that have found an immortal home in the sess pool that is pop culture, but they are also really worn and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, May 8 2004
Ce commentaire est de: Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
These songs bring back so many memories! This is a collection of all of her most treasured tracks. She can write and sing songs of the most poignant for any emotional occasion.

For example:
"That's The Way I've Always Heard It Should Be" is an anthem of transition between being a daughter and being a wife. The music and lyrics roll back and forth between both roles. It's amazing how she captures symbolism. "Touched By The Sun" is inspirational when chasing a goal and "Let The River Run", "Coming Around Again" are just, if not more empowering.

"Legend In Your Own Time", "You're So Vain" are just kick butt gorgeous.

You want love songs that hit right at the heart - straight away?
"The Right Thing To Do", "Nobody Does It Better", "Haven't Got Time For The Pain" and "All I Want Is You" are just a couple of the most romantic love songs ever written.

"Mockingbird" a really playful song with some instrumentals I still love to hear over and over.

Lost a loved one? "Like A River" is an ingenius song with lots of transitions and interesting twists.

Need to mend a broken heart? Feeling scorned?
"Better Not Tell Her", "You Belong To Me" might help.

Her songs have always helped me channel emotions. Maybe I didn't even know what I was feeling when I felt it but as soon as I heard her music and lyrics I could honestly touch base with whatever was creating angst or happiness in my life. In short I could always relate in a very deep way to this woman's music and lyrics. Her songs are so interesting and never ever go out of "style" for me. This is wonderful.

5.0 out of 5 stars The BEST of the "Best of" CDs!, May 8 2004

I've got to admit that I'm not a hardcore CARLY SIMON fan. In high school, I did have her LPs "No Secrets" and the one with the song "Anticipation." I still recall all the buzz about who CARLY SIMON was singing about in "You're So Vain." It was also a song that was always on my mind because I would start singing "You're So Vain" in the shower, riding in the car with my parents, in church, etc. I'm not sure why I never purchased her other albums or CD after 1973.

I have, however, been thinking about adding the "No Secrets" CD back into my music collection since I had no CARLY SIMON CDs. I had thought about adding one of her many "Best of" CDs into my collection instead of getting the "No Secrets" CD. My local music shop allows customers to listen to CDs before making a purchase. I wasn't too impressed with her "Best of" CDs. They didn't look complete and the sound quality was bad. Needless to say, I was surprised to see "Reflections." My first thought was "Another 'Best of" CD - WHY?"

I began to listen to it and read the tracks on the CD case. The first thing that impressed me was the sound quality. The sound quality is smooth. The quantity and quality of songs selected for this CD is impressive. Without a doubt, this is the BEST of the "Best of CARLY SIMON" CDs.

If you got to have only one CARLY SIMON CD, this would be it.

I'm 22 years old and I do not really consider myself a Carly Simon fan, but there are songs of hers that I like. I think this is cool because it covers her whole career. I remember first hearing "Coming Around Again" in my younger schooling years and every now and then I was introduced to another of her songs. This covers all of her popular hits, including the one I remember from a long time ago (and I was surprised that this one did not chart on the Hot 100): "The Stuff That Dreams are Made Of". It also appears her later soundtrack songs from "Working Girl" and "Anywhere But Here". You'll be glad you bought this retrospective. I know I am.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great REFLECTION of THE '70s ~'80s and '90s !, May 6 2004
Ce commentaire est de: Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
During the mid '70s, CARLY SIMON was one a major female pop vocalist on top40 radio. For a moment in time, she was pop royalty married to James Taylor. This compact collection of her classic hits stretches over a diverse 30-year career. The CD highlights 20 of her best. You'll find all of her major hits. The 70s are well represented. "Anticipation", "Your so Vain", "The Right Thing to Do", "Haven't Got Time for the Pain","Mockingbird" plus the controversial #1 song that ignited a debate on payola and radio; "Jesse". You can even hear her James Bond anthem that haunted top 40 radio "Nobody Does it Better". Included on here are her 1980s material such as the Academy Award winning theme for WORKING GIRL "Let the River Run" (composed by SIMON). Unquestionably, more than a few pop fans want to own a summary of CARLY SIMON hits. This CD will fill the void. The one problem with this CD is her 1980s and 1990s material is not as strong nor as interesting as her glorious hit days in the '70s yet it obtains a major portion of the latter part on the disc. Over all, this CD is a greatest hits fans of '70s music should own. If you enjoy pop/rock music then audition this CD from one of the original real pop divas, you'll be amazed at the multi-levels of talent that is CARLY SIMON; crafty songwriter/vocalist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody Does It Better, May 4 2004
By A Customer
Ce commentaire est de: Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Finally, an updated single disk greatest hits from one of the premier singer/songwriters of the past 30 years. If you only need one compilation of Carly's music, this is the one to get. The major hits from 70's are here, along with the comeback hits from "Coming Around Again". Choice cuts from her stellar 90's albums "Have You Seen Me Lately" & "Letters Never Sent" round out the set, along with movie favs "Let The River Run" and "Love Of My Life". The only glaring admission - nothing from the recent "Bedroom Tapes" has been included. "Scar" would have been a welcome addition to this collection. But that's a minor quibble
to say the least. All you youngsters who love Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Alanis Morrisette, etc. - pick up a copy of this CD and listen to where it all started.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, May 4 2004
Ce commentaire est de: Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Great CD, capturing Carly's Greatest Hits,
I wish they included Why, a top ten British hit and
Cult Club Classic, and Attitude Dancing, both would have
given the CD a little extra OOOMPH,
Otherwise the CD shows why Carly is a Class Act

5.0 out of 5 stars Great. . .Just the Remastering makes it a "must-have", May 4 2004
Ce commentaire est de: Reflections: Carly Simon's Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Even though there are many Carly compilations out (I know, I have most of the them), this CD is a "must-buy" -- the remastering of her great songs makes them come alive even more than on previous releases -- and it's great to be able to walk into the music store and come out with a new Carly CD -- made my day!!
