Brigitte and Arnold cut up
You need to prepare you self for this movie; move the furniture out of the way and send the cats out of the room. Or they maybe victims of sword play.
Yep you guessed it Arnie (Hercules in New York) is back and he is talking. Toss in Brigitte Nielson and a sprinkle of the evil Sandahl Bergman. And you have an afternoon of fun and revenge.

Cheesey campy 80's classic
Arnold. He is the reason this is watchable and without him this would be one of the worst movies ever. Nielson has the acting talent of a cherry tree but plays the role well physically. The biggest joke of a scene was Bridgette mourning her dead sister. A true Oscar worthy performance! And young Prince Tarn... ugh!!!

Yep you guessed it Arnie (Hercules in New York) is back and he is talking. Toss in Brigitte Nielson and a sprinkle of the evil Sandahl Bergman. And you have an afternoon of fun and revenge.
Seems there is the talisman (some glowy plastic thing) that only women can touch. If it gets too much light it will destroy the world. It is captured by a dark queen with great ambition. Red Sonja, who hates men, must team up with Kalidor (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to make sure the talisman is properly disposed of before it destroys the world. They have many trials and tribulations along the way. Will they succeed?

Red Sonja on DVD, Juil 11 2004
Red Sonja was Directed by Richard Fleischer(who also directed Conan the Destroyer). Admittedly, this was the worst film of the Conan style fantasy series, but it still has something to offer to loyal 80's fans. Excellent casting with the top action stars of the moment. This film has Arnold fresh off his Terminator hit, Brigitte Nielsen fresh off Rocky 4, and 80s karate star Ernie Reyes JR(star of the 80s TV series Sidekicks). Red Sonja is fun, but it doesn't offer anything original. Just the same old save the world, good versus evil stuff. If you couldn't get enough of the first 2 Conan movies and you need more, then pick up red Sonja. She isn't as pretty as Xena, but she and Arnold swing one hell of a sword! really excellent barbarian style sword fighting. casting=4.5 stars
ending=4 stars
Directing and Editing=3.75 stars
plot & storyline=2.5 stars
replay value=3.5 stars OVERALL= 3.65 TOTAL STARS DVD FEATURES: Red Sonja has a very nice wide screen transfer, chapter selection and movie trailer. Sadly after a long wait for this DVD, we didn't get any commentary from the director or Brigitte. That's pretty sad that they don't try to give a little more quality to the fans after a long wait. Brigitte Nielsen hasn't done a good film since Beverly Hills cop 2 in 1987, so it's not like she is too occupied. The DVD special features are pathetic. At least give us some filmographies or something...

He is the reason this movie is 3 stars and not 5.
He is easily one of the most annoying characters to ever grace the silver screen and his servant, who has an IQ of a turnip, is almost as bad. His sidekick is not funny, overweight, and uses a giant bone for a weapon. Wow what a great mix! This movie is enjoyable, but only if you were a young male growing up in the 80's and for nostalgic purposes. Without Arnold this would be unwatchable.

An Eighties Classic, Jui 16 2004

I was raised on Conan and Red Sonja, so I can't help but highly recommend these movies. No, the acting isn't great, and there are homosexual connotations that I just didn't catch when I was six, but these movies have stood the test of time-- at least in my estimation. Wonderful adventures with unforgetable characters, and the swords are just darn cool.

Could have (should have) been Conan 3?, Mai 6 2004
When I first viewed this video (I won't admit how old I was) it took a long time to realize Arnold was Kalidor and not Conan. Perhaps because his other movies were a long way off from from a Barbarian film or I wanted it to be a sequel. Either way, I enjoyed this film.
Now I don't review films, however after reading some of the other reviews I had to defend Arnold. Maybe people need to be reminded that, although this movie is being released on DVD it still is a 1985 released video. The special effects were nowhere near what they are now. I'm not a history buff as I'm sure most people aren't. The exact clothing worn in an era or weapons used aren't as important as the entertainment being provided (unless they try shooting each other with rifles). I am less harsh on actors/actresses making debuts. I've never done it, but it can't be easy. As far as I'm concerned this is a good movie and I will buy it on DVD when it becomes available (anyone want to buy my video version?)

Fantasy Filled Adventure!, Mai 28 2002
A prequel of sorts to the 'Conan' movies. The gods were listening to me when I asked for more Arnold damage! He stars in this magical treasure as Kalidor (not Conan, upsetting!). Brigitte Nielsen is the red-headed warrior and she can really kick some stern! After the death of her sister, she vows to get revenge on the evil queen. Recycling some of the Conan plot, but that is awesome! Kalidor wrestles this metal alligators in a pit, fights Sonja and defeats many evil people in a castle! I was honored to have watched such an awesome movie as this. It's a shame that this film is not on DVD and it's a crime that MGM hasn't released this yet. Arnold Schwarzenegger makes this movie worth while and oh yeah! I forgot that Ernie Reyes Jr. was in this! He's a little runt of a prince and he's in love with Sonja, but he's too much of a toddler for such a warrior! YES!

Ever since seeing this movie when it first came out, back in the day...I've been hooked. Above all else, it has been my favorite and so hard to find, too. So, seeing it here is definitely a great thing for me. The movie focuses on strength, both mental and physical. An internal and external battle for the leading lady, Red Sonja who battles her way to fight Queen Gedren to avenge the deaths of her brother, sister, mother, and father. Along side of Red Sonja is notorious fighter, Kalidor. With Kalidor and two unlikely heroes, Red Sonja battles through this action/adventure five-star hit movie. The story is based on the writings of Robert E. Howard, author of Conan. Brigitte Nielson really plays the part incredibly. Not bad for a "Rocky IV" and "Cobra" star and ex-Stallone wife, but she certainly can take on the action role. And even more impressive was Schwarzenegger (who needs no introduction) acting along side another action star, female at that. There are several other actors worth recognition for their roles in the movie: for instance, Queen Gedren, played by Sandahl Bergman whom has played many other movies, such as "Conan the Barbarian". Falkon, played by Paul Smith who has been seen in many films like the new release: "Monsters Ball", the original "Dune", 1965's "The Great Race" and many more dating back to 1936. Ikol, played by Ronald Lacey from "Yellowbeard" and "Raiders of the Lost Ark". And let us not forget Pat Roach (Brytag) seen in an array of movies including all three Indiana Jones, "Kull the Conqueror," "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves," "Conan the Destroyer," and "Clash of the Titans." With this ensemble cast, how can you go wrong with the movie?

My Fav movie As a Child, Déc 27 2000
We used to rent this movie every week because my brother and I were enthralled by it. From a similiar era as Conan The Barbarian (also with Arnold), the movie continues the development of Arnold as an actor and gives Brigitte one of her rare movie appearances. A definite cult classic, which everyone should see at least once in their life! :)

Perfectly dreadful, Nov. 6 2000
This is the worst fantasy movie made in recent history second only to "She". Rather than allowing Sonja to build muscle and skill the "Magic Sword-Wielding Fairy" comes down to grant Sonja some strength. As the story develops, the only highlight is Arnold, who we already perceive as a barbarian so it doesn't take much work. Brigitte is a very poor actress and her dialog is wooden and forced. It is amazing that Sandahl Bergman who was excellent in Conan becomes such a campy moronic queen in this movie.

Great Fantasy Film, Aoû 11 2000

If you like ancient world action flicks (ex. Conan) you'll love Red Sonja.Red Sonja is one of the best fantasy films. Red Sonja (Brigitte Nielsen) is beautiful. You gotta love Schwarzenegger.This film had excellent sword fighting (It just wants to make you take fencing lessons). The background settings and art are very interesting such as the skeleton bridge. The little bratty prince and his servant are pretty funny. I never get tired of watching this flick. The action sequences will always stay in your mind. If you wanna relax and watch a good old adventure flick then watch Red Sonja. v
