This review is from: Starsky & Hutch : Season 2 (DVD)
Dear Ritchard J. Sieruga, if you do not like "CHiPs" it does not mean that it is bad. I like Starsky & Hutch but I also love "CHiPs" and I think it is one of the best Police Shows of the 70's and 80's and I think many people out there think the same way. Please release all seasons of "CHiPs" as soon as possible plus the rest of the seasons of Starsky & Hutch. Thanks.

I love that many TV series are been released on DVD as seasons. But I wish they release the 70's Cop Show "CHiPs", it is one of the very best TV shows and deserve to be released on DVD. I would realy appreciate releasing all seasons of the "CHiPs" Cop Show on DVD as soon as possible. By the way I am a big fan of Starsky & Hutch and I am buying all their seasons along with most of the shows being released on DVD.

Starsky and Hutch was the quintessential 70s action show. The editorial reviewer got it right that the second season improved on the first in terms of darker stories and character development. Of course there are the cliches' but they handled them in unique and honest ways. The tag at the end of the episode Starsky's girl is poignant and unusually detailed. I remember the second seasons episodes being attacked by the press as being too violent and graphic at the time. Nowadays, after shows like Miami Vice (which Glaser directed some episodes), and Hill Street Blues, the violence seems tame, but there were some attempts (unfortunatly successful) to tame the show down after season 2, and rely more on the comedic angle. Season 2 still has Huggy Bear without his bar, and that always bothered me why they took that away from his character. Season 2 also has the truly horrible spin off attempt, Turkey and the Bear, which thankfully never got picked up. Buy this DVD, you won't be dissapointed. It's great period piece drama, right before the advent of disco. I see that they are releasing this set in conjunction with the release of the movie version, so I hope they decide to release the 3rd and 4th seasons soon and not leave us hanging. Oh...and please PLEASE forget about putting out a CHiPs DVD!!!! That dreadful series was everything that S&H thankfully never became, bland, bloodless and deviod of any real emotion.

Owen and Ben who? So they finally made a Starsky & Hutch movie for the big screen, big deal! I've personally never seen the big screen movie and don't plan to any time soon. As far as I'm concerned Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul are and will always be the one and only Starsky & Hutch now and forever. 1970's television is where it's at and make no mistake, season two with its high octane pulse pounding action definitely doesn't disappoint. There are 25 more episodes digitally remastered in this 5 disc set and the picture and sound are great. Just like season one the box cover art and disc artwork are well done and this set from Columbia Tri-Star looks fantastic. The 25 episodes are spread out over 5 single sided discs and presented in their 1.33:1 full screen aspect ratio. All of the 25 season two episodes are great, but several really stand out in my opinion. The "Las Vegas Strangler" with Lynda Carter "The Vampire" with John Saxon and "Vendetta" with Gary Sandy. This show was so popular during its run that the who's who of Hollywood wanted guest starring roles. There really isn't much in the way of bonus features other than some original TV promo spots narrated by Paul Michael Glaser and some bonus previews. A reunion featurette of the cast or a where are they now featurette would have been a nice extra. TV's best cop duo is back tougher than ever, so accept no substitute and pick up your copy of "Starsky & Hutch season two today! DVD Episodes Include: The Las Vegas Strangler, Part I The Las Vegas Strangler, Part II Little Girl Lost Bust Amboy Murder at Sea, Part I Murder at Sea, Part II Vendetta Gillian Vampire The Specialist The Psychic Tap Dance Her Way Right Back Into Your Heart Iron Mike Nightmare Bloodbath Huggy Bear and the Turkey The Set-Up, Part I The Set-Up, Part II Survival Starsky's Lady The Committee The Velvet Jungle Long walk down a Short Dirt Road Murder on Stage 17 Starsky and Hutch are Guilty

Starksy & Hutch Episodes - A MUST HAVE!,

It is about time these episodes were released! My taped copies from TV are just about worn out! When Columbia House started to release their VHS tapes, I got all I could, but then they just abruptly stopped (hope they start up again!). I'm thrilled beyond words that the 2nd season is being released on DVD! I pounced on the 1st season DVD collection. KEEP THEM COMING! The best 70's cop show to ever hit the air waves!! A definite must for anyone who grew up during that decade! Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul are the best as Starsky & Hutch!

The first season on DVD was awesome! The second season promises more action and suspense characteristic of Starsky & Hutch. The series combines humor and the seriousness of being a cop with a friendship where each would risk their own life to save the other. Starsky & Hutch's 9mm and magnum made a difference in the lives of violent criminals. Their attitudes raised precinct Captain Dobey's blood pressure, to the audience's delight. Huggy Bear's adventures as a professional snitch and independent businessman are precedent setting.I pre-ordered the second season and can't wait to start watching Starsky & Hutch blasting through Los Angeles in their Gran Torino. Starsky & Hutch is a must-have DVD. Columbia Tri Star should release the remaining seasons on DVD ASAP.

As a fan (though very young) of this series when it first ran, I was very afraid that the show would "lose something" over the years when it finally came out on DVD. It hasn't. It was a great show then and a great show now. If only cop shows today featured the great humor and rapport that Soul and Glaser had together. These guys are great actors, and their interaction and stuntwork always made the show interesting even in the context of the occasional hackneyed plot. The second season features some terrific episodes, including "Gillian", where Starsky finds out Hutch's fiancee is a (gasp) hooker, and the famous John Saxon "vampire" episode. I highly recommend this for fans of Starsky and Hutch, fans of '70s TV, and fans of cop shows alike. They don't make shows like this anymore, and it's a shame. They are just pure, well-crafted escapism. |
