Oh Come On....,

This review is from: Rescue from Gilligan's Island (DVD)
Yeah the D.V.D. edititing is poor and the quality isn't A+ but honestly it isn't that noticble! The movie is a fun reunion! It's great to see all of the castaway's back together again! Ovcourse their's the exception of Tina Louise who played Ginger , but Judith Baldwin isn't to shabby herself! The skip's are hardly noticable and rare. One is where Gilligan and Skipper are siting down with all the fan's cheering for their return , and a Ice-cream cone apear's out of nowhere in Gilligan's hand. Big Deal! Im sure it was only a 10-15 second skip anyway's! It dousnt reack the flow of the film. The best performance had to go to Dawn Wells playing Mary-Ann. You couldnt tell she aged! However to me the fun of seeing a reunion movie is seeing the actor's aged up a little. Gilligan (Bob Denver) is still charming and funny , but you can see his gray hair! The movie is pretty much what you would expect for it's title. They get rescued and when they get back have trouble fitting in to the new world. A good plot but nothing genious. The movie is nothing brilliant ovbiously but it's a cute fun watch. Don't let negative review's change your mind about buying! All they are doing is complaining about little , little editing problems! Recomended for any Gilligan's Island fan. Cheers!

Gilligan and Company are finally rescued,
By
This review is from: Rescue from Gilligan's Island (DVD)
The popular sixties sitcom Gilligan's Island has it's special and final episode on TV. I've watched this show on TBS when I was seven and eight with my mother. It was something to watch besides scooby. A great Discovery.

I gave this movie an OK. I have the original series box set on DVD and the last episode just leaves you "hanging" not knowing if they get rescued or not so I had to get this one. Here's why I gave it an "OK": The picture quality of this DVD seemed to be that of VHS tape. The colours were washed out a bit and there were scratches and stuff from the film to DVD transfer. And there was a film frame or two missing. The sound track needs cleaning up too. It was noisy and muffled in spots. This DVD would look better on an old 19inch colour TV. As for the movie content there is no "Laugh Track" or "Canned Laughter" as there was in the TV series. It just doesn't seem right without it. Not the original "Ginger" of course and all the actors were older. This is the first time I've seen this movie but it was just as predictable as the original TV series. And not the same without the original Ginger. Still...it's worth a watch. You know, they have to get rescued sometime.

Fun reunion movie,

This review is from: Rescue from Gilligan's Island (DVD)
I saw this reunion TV-movie when it was first broadcast on NBC in 1978. I recently bought the first-season "Gilligan" DVD set, and my young son has long been curious about how the castaways finally got off the island. So when I came across this entry for five bucks, I couldn't resist. The Amazon.com customers' complaints that are already posted here are quite valid. The movie's DVD version is indeed poorly edited, and the generic DVD "extras" are nothing to write home about. On the plus side, if you're a bonafide "Gilligan" fan, there's enough first-class silliness to justify watching this, even for a second time. The characters are still true to their one-note origins, and even though spoilsport Tina Louise is replaced by the lesser Judith Baldwin, she looks darned good wet. Who are you kidding? Fork over the five bucks and indulge your inner child!

i rate the movie four stars and the dvd 1 star. my opinion is you get what you paid for. this dvd is a cheap price because the movie is very poor quality. there is one scene where a icecream cone just appears in gilligan's hands out of nowhere. even people who never seen this movie can tell where the scenes are CUT OUT.

Absolutely Horrible...,

I have been a fan of Gilligan's Island for the last 30 years and when I finally received this DVD, I thought it was the next best thing to sliced bread. I was wrong though... As is stated by other customers here, the editing was absolutely horrible. A lot of the scenes were cut and it just ruined the whole movie. I gave it two stars because it is always good to see the cast of Gilligan's Island perform and this specific DVD did them no justice whatsoever. Shame on you to dishonor those actors and actresses that made Gilligan's Island as famous as it is today...

Good Movie / Bad Mastering,
By
This review is from: Rescue from Gilligan's Island (DVD)
The movie itself is really cute and has "re-watchability". My problem with the DVD is the mastering is TERRIBLE. Imagine taking a film made in 1978, transferring it to VHS about 10 years later (without cleaning the film), then taking that same VHS tape 10 years after that and transferring it to DVD; it really looks that bad. In fact, there are messed-up spots on the videotape that weren't cleaned up so you see a replay of creases in the master tape!BTW, the re-cast of Ginger pulled the movie down a star; what a bad actress.

As [aweful] as it was, I still laughed.,

Forget the movie and bring out all the episodes on DVD. I did laugh a lot during the movie, but it was really the characters and the memories that made me laugh, not the script or the plot...This DVD is cheap. So is the standard and quality of the movie. The only reason you should be buying this is because you want to see the characters again until the episodes come out. (I showed this to a Thai friend who had never heard of Gilligan's Island before. He couldn't believe my laughter at something so stupid!!!).

Mostly because the DVD is a piece of junk!,

The movie itself I loved, but the DVD version brings the rating all the way to 2. If I hated the movie, we'd be at 1.First of all, the price is as low as it is for a reason. The chapters are like they were evenly split in six, with no regard to the beginning of a scene. Secondly, there are glaringly serious editing problems with this version, from repeating a few frames for a second, to speeding up a shot unexpectedly, to completely eliminating scenes altogether. This DVD comes with extras though. A copy of the Little Rascal's short "Spooky Hooky". The one where the gang plan to play hooky from school to go to the circus, then find out their teacher was planning to take the whole class there anyways, but before they realized it, one member left the hooky note on the desk and closed the door to the school, locking it, and since the night watchman wouldn't let them back in, they had to break into the school that night to get the note. However, it storms, and they all get sick, and none of their mothers would let them go to school anyways. The only thing I leave you with is this; until they make a better copy of this movie on DVD, if you already have the VHS copy, KEEP IT! If not, either wait, or buy the VHS version. |
