5.0 out of 5 stars I Love this show
I wrote a reviews earlier and said this show was horrible, but that's before I watched the show I love it now I am so sorry for saying that stuff before.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's the beginning, so nothing too special yet
This is the first 4 episodes of the popular anime series. At this point, we are not sure what the overall plot will be. The first four episodes serve as introduction and not much else. The world is flooded and there is an alien race attacking the Earth known as Angels. The only thing that can stand against the Angels is a new robot called EVA. The Eva unit must have...

5.0 out of 5 stars This series will blow you away, Jun 25 2004
I checked this DVD out at the nearest comic book store available.
This series will blow you away. The Year is 2015 and all of humanity has changed after a meteor strikes the earth. It's a cover story so theres still more to this I just haven't gotten there yet. Shinji, a young some what frightend and miserable kid who gets a call from his father saying he want's him only to find out the only reason he want's him back is because he needs him to join NERV. What or whom is Nerv...Well You'll have to find that out for your selves. With Shinji, NERV can now fight the Angels(which I won't spoil for you)with there last hope of salvation. EVA! Now I think I'm not even giving good detail bout' this so I'll leave it for another reviewer to tell you about this story. But I will say this series is great and is one of the best.

The Dvd is ok. Not good extras though, but still it's great.
I love the series acctually.

Check it out...

5.0 out of 5 stars Eva rules!, Jun 18 2004
By
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:01 (ep.1-5) (DVD)
From what I saw, the renewal video quality is much improved: (...)

This is one of the most complex anime TV series. The series has more layers than you can shake a figurine at. It has definite rewatch value. I wish amazon had volume one with the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Evangelion, confusing but great, Jun 17 2004
By
"dacheat" (newport beach,ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:01 (ep.1-5) (DVD)
Evangelion is one of the greatest animes ever made. It starts off with the main character Shinji who is selfconcious 14 year old. He enters NERV an organization who's sole purpose is to destroy the angels and stop 3rd impact from happening. Through out the series Shinji fights the Angels with the help from the Eva's and the other pilots Rei and Asuka. The ending to the series is what made it a 4 instead of 5. It is cheaply made, and confusing to understand what happens. I would recommend the movie "End of Evangelion" which is a much better ending. Anyways my thought is that Asuka and Shinji are like Adam and Eve. You may not catch this but i thought the whole time that Shinji and Asuka were exactely alike in a sense that they care to much about what others think of them.yeah anyways go buy the series you wont regret it...i didnt

5.0 out of 5 stars PREDICTABLE!?, Jun 17 2004

how can tweedledum call evangelion predictable?! Evangelion is no where near predictable. Did he really predict where the main computer's "brain" came from? how about the end? If he even watched it he should still be confused by the ending/s.

Evangelion is a great anime not only for it's mecha battles but also for how it forces you to think. Evangelion is a must watch anime in my eyes.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Mecha Series..., Jun 16 2004
This review is from: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Platinum:01 (ep.1-5) (DVD)
I've actually watched Evangelion unlike Tweedledum65's review and the EVA series is actually pretty interesting and worth a good watching when you get the time to see it. EVA is the story of a boy named Shinji who is brought to NERV to be with his father (obviously a person who works at NERV)who creates the EVA's and stuff. The story gets complicated when his father has him pilot one of the EVA's and treats his son more like a dog then his immediate family. To make things more complicated (Rei a fellow classmate and EVA pilot)is forced to work with Shinji making the story very amusing, and his father practically pays more attention to Rei then Shinji! So whats a Shinji to do?? How will he cope with the pain agony torment of his father? Will he ever be treated as a son or an inanimate object...well you'll have to buy it to find that out! One more thing has Tweedledum65 ever thought about watching the shows he reviews before he complains about stuff he has no idea what he is talking about. The otakus of the world must unite against the chobos like Tweedledum65. Sorry Tweedledum65 but you're ignorant.

EVA is the absolute worst show anyone can watch its so boring and retarded. Who actually likes this show. the plot is so predictable and stupid. Something is wrong with you if you watch this I mean really. If you like mecha series you should try a better show like Gravion the best mecha show ever unlike EVA which is absolutely horrible. I hope you all love my review. stupid EVA watchers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good anime, May 14 2004
By A Customer
This is a very good anime. It starts off in the year 2015, 15
years after a meteor struck the Earth killing half the population. Then mysterious beings start attacking the planet.
It is up to 3 teens to pilot the Evangelions, huge human like
machines devoleped by a secret orginanization called NERV to
destroy the alien Angels. The main character is Shinji Ikari one
of the chosen few who gets to pilot an Eva.He has some major issues though one being his father is so involved in his work

being the head of NERV.The other "chosen one" is a puurrrddy
girl named Rei.You will learn about the other one in the next
DVD.This is the first installment in the series and I would recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Amazing! It is the King of Anime!, April 30 2004
By
The Otaku (Middle Eastern Seaboard) - See all my reviews
This was the single best buy I ever made (even better then the katana and zatoichi!). That buy was Neon Genesis Evangelion Box Set. I'm not writing a review on that yet becuase I'm not done the series.

This anime has all the right parts: stunning action (with just the right amount of reality aka blood), awesome character development (mainly later in the series), and a guy who has to deal with girls who he doesn't understand!

Shinji, a 14-year-old, has recieved a message to meet his father. It comes in the form of a picture of Misato, a mid to late 20s woman, in which her cleavage is exposed with a little note saying in subtitles: Take a look at these! or something similar. But...while trying to find Misato, a State of Emergency is declared due to an Angel attack! Plucked up by Misato in her car, he's wisked off to NERV Headquarters where he's to pilot an Evangelion. We see a few flashes of Shinji as a child while he refuses to pilot the Eva implying (and justified later in the series) that Shinji either ran away or was abandoned.

He defeats the Angel (the alien who was attacking and caused the State of Emergency) but was injured during the battle.

To round it off: A great anime that gets better as it continues! If you read one of those reviews that says that it is just a stupid, cliche anime that has a whinny hero, don't listen to them! Those reviewers don't seem to (or at least I get the impression)like anime with either plots with mysterious gaps that are LATER FILLED IN THROUGHOUT THE SERIES. As for the whinny part, if you were a kid who was abandoned as a child, had no mother, and came back to the man who you hate most only to fight a giant alien that doesn't blow up when an atom-bomb like exposive (the N2 Mine) hits it, I'd like to see you not whine!

2.0 out of 5 stars Cliche Queen, ho!, Mar 2 2004
By
Matt Rutherford "UHD" (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
NGE embodies the worst elements of anime, and those elements are anime cliches. Impossible and inexplicable mechs, adolescent heroes (the first of which is angst-ridden and emotionally unstable, another is a loner, and the third is sassy), busty curved women, and mystifying plot. I guess if you're one of those "otaku" freaks this DVD will be right up your alley. Others can move on to something worth watching, like Mononoke, Rurouni Kenshin, or Excel Saga.
