5.0 out of 5 stars Lets be fair ... My Chemical Romance are now gods.
Helena - Isn't and never will be, my favorite song but its a good solid song to start the album on. I feel this is the best way to introduce our lovely MCR, with a little bit of growling at the beginning of the song? The whispering? Amazing. Then lets go into full hardcore MCR mode and were hooked. 9/10

This CD is catchy, but they lose most of their credibility on this album. It's mildly watered down and seemingly fabricated for radio airplay.

I feel this is the best way to introduce our lovely MCR, with a little bit of growling at the beginning of the song? The whispering? Amazing. Then lets go into full hardcore MCR mode and were hooked. 9/10

Give 'Em Hell Kid - Great song, good vibe to it. Catchy. If you weren't hooked before, you sure are now. 10/10

To The End - The song has great lyrics. The beginng in is odd in a completely good way. Catchiest song on the album, possibly. 10/10

You Know What They Do ... - And when you thought it couldn't get better, you were proved wrong. One of my favorites. 10/10

I'm Not Okay (I promise) - Meh song for MCR standards. Still great, I just didn't feel it lyrically as I did with the other songs. 8/10

The Ghost of You - Absolutely fantastic. A ballad? Mix things up a bit! Amazing, amazing song! One of my favorites, without a doubt. 10/10

The Jetset life is going to kill you - Can you say: underrated? Lyrics are great if you actually listen to 'em! 9/10

Interlude- I actually didn't think this was pointless at all. It sort of breaks up the album, softly. 5/5

Thank You For the Venom - Catchy. Amazing. What else could you want? GREAT lyrics. 9/10

Hang 'Em High - Pretty good. 8/10

Its not a fashion statement - I dont really get the song yet, but the thing about MCR is that after a few listens you'll eventually become hooked but for now I'm not feeling it too much. 7/10

Cemetary Drive - Whoever came up with the lyrics is a genius. 10/10

I never told you what I do for a living - great way to end the album off. Makes you crave more. Such a great, catchy song! 10/10

This review is from: Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (Audio CD)
This album is purely gorgeous. This is the one that skyrocketed the boys to mainstream fame, but don't just disregard them because they've been on TRL.Forget everything you've ever heard about My Chemical Romance, buy this album and let it overtake you. It's epic in its emotion...the guitar work and musicality of this band is mindnumbing. It's all in there.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can't force myself to take it out of my cd player, Feb 3 2005

My two favourite bands, The Used and My Chemical Romance. I enjoyed MCR's last CD, but I've fallen more in love with them on this one. I can't help but to deny it's super catchy and their lyrics are amazing (what you can always expect from them). If you're into a more upbeat funky MCR, you'll really enjoy this cd.

These song reviews are pretty hard to write considering I love the entire album. Definitley one of my all time favorites that I've ever heard.

1. Helena - Amazing beginning..well, just an amazing song. One of my favorites. 10/10

2. Give Em' Hell Kid - The beginning is really funky. Gerard's voice sounds awesome..not my absoloute favorite, but I still really like it. 9/10

3. To The End - From what I've read, this song is *okay* but honestly the beginning of this song is my favorite out of any of the songs. It's easy to move to..but once it gets to the bridge, gets a little soft and not as catchy but then they pick it back up with the chorus. Love ittttt! Dark lyrics are wicked too. A definite fav 10/10

4. You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison - this song is interesting. I like how it starts out. Bert (from the used) screams in this song. It has to be loved by me, haha but it's only about an 8.5/10..but it's still growing on me.

5. I'm Not Okay (I Promise)- this song isn't terrible, so I don't know why it's getting bad feedback. It's a little tOo *MTV* but you can't deny that it's really catchy and it constantly gets stuck in my head. THe lyrics are pretty good too. *You said you read me like a book..but the pages are all torn and frayed* - 8.5/10

6. Ghost Of You - This was actually the first song I heard off the album, my friend had told me about it before the Cd came out. It's a lot softer, more like a ballad but it's absoloutely beautiful. The chorus gets to me so much. One of my fav's. 10/10

7. The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You - I really enjoy the chorus of this song, although the rest of the song is awesome too. It's up there with the favs 9.5/10

8. Interlude - Pretty soothing..interludes are nothign special anyway. The singing adds a nice touch. 9/10

9. Thank You For The Venom - (2nd song I heard off the cd)I adore this song. I just love how it's all mixed up you have all these different beats and the way he sings..just ahh it's so much fun to listen to. I love ittttttt. 10/10

10. Hang Em' High - Beginning's a bit weird...a western feel to it. If you like their louder songs, you'll enjoy this one. 9/10

11. It's Not A Fashion Statement, Its a Death Wish - Not one of my personal favorites, but I still enjoy listening to it. About 2/3's of the way through the song there's a really awesome part where the beat changes and it's really cool to listen to. 8/10

12. Cemetary Drive - The lyrics are pretty awesome for this song. It's different than the rest of the cd. The chorus is pretty loud, but the verses are quite soft. It's a nice change though, its a deep song. 9/10

13. I Never Told You What I Do For A Living - This song sort of loses it's energy a few times but it's got a pretty good beat to it thats fun to sort of bob around to. I also really like the screaming with the guitar...veryyyyyyy awesome. 9/10

If youre going to be like everyone else and compare this cd to their first cd, "I brought you my bullets..." with hopes of it being along the same lines, then you may be a little disappointed...like I was at first. But after I listened to the whole thing through the first time (thats all it took) it ranked equally high, if not higher, than their first album. It may have a more pop-punk influence with less screaming but it definitely has more energy. Even the songs packed with emotion like The Ghost of You are full of energy. Plus, every song is catchy. In fact, I have never heard an album as catchy as this. Excellent vocals by the way.

1. Helena-Excellent choice to put this song first. I listened to this about 8 times in a row before moving on to track 2. One of the most catchy and energetic songs on this cd. 10/10
2. Give em Hell Kid-Another energetic song, try not moving to this one. 9/10
3. To the End-well...more energy. Awesome guitar/vocal combination in this song. Awesome lyrics too. 9/10
4. You know what they do to guys...-Very cool intro to this song, kind of jazzy. One of the harder choruses on the album. Very catchy. Probably my third favorite. 10/10
5. Im Not Okay-"You said you read me like a book, but the pages are all torn and frayed"-good song and very emotional. Catchy and more punk sounding than others. Energetic, just like all others. 10/10
6. The Ghost of You-Wow! My definite favorite. Best chorus I have ever heard and great lyrics. "at the top of my lungs, in my arms she dies, she dies" Most emotion in this one, but still hits as hard as the others. I like that. 11/10
7. The Jetset life is gonna kill me-Great hard hitting chorus and good all around song. 9/10
8. Interlude-just an interlude, nothing special
9. Thank you for the venom-"Love is the red of the rose on your coffin door, What's life like, bleeding on the floor,
the floor, the floor" Some of the best lyrics. Not AS catchy as the rest though. 10/10
10. Hang em high-has a old country sounding intro, very cool. Very fast paced song. Full of energy but the chorus is not all that catchy. But cool nonetheless. 8.5/10
11. Its not a fashion statement...-"this hole that you put me in wasn't deep enough and i'm climbing out right now " Another song with very good lyrics. Energetic and catchy, no complaints. 10/10
12. Cemetery Drive-one of my favorites. I love the chorus and the lyrics. The lyrics in this song most resemble their first album the most I think. Good subtle guitar parts during the verse. Very cool. 10/10
13. I never told you what I do for a living-my second favorite and the song with the most screaming. "another knife in my hands
a stain that never comes off the sheets clean me off im so dirty babe" "they gave us two shots to the back of the head
and we're all dead now." -good lyrics too. Ending of the song is really good. 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Three Cheers, For MTV Hasn't Discovered Them!, July 13 2004
This review is from: Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (Audio CD)
I first discovered this band on TakingBackSunday.com, the band said that they had a new album coming out and that it was really good. Well, since I am a huge fan of Taking Bak Sunday, I decided to check them out. I looked at reviews and downloaded the song Helena, and I was instantly in love with them. I decided to buy the album, and I have come to the conclusion that it was a purchase that was well worth it. If you are a fan of emo/punk, you will like this band. The album is very catchy, and will appeal to most people. Here is a track by track review.

Helena 10/10 Great opener, great energy, a standout.
Give 'Em Hell Kid 9/10 Catchy, pretty short, well tune overall.
To The End 9.25/10 Has twisted lyrics, but is a very upbeat and well played song.
You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison 9.5/10 Great intro, reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody, this is a very unique song, always good to listen to.
I'm Not Okay(I Promise) 10/10 It bugs me how people seem to be dissapointed with this song, it is so awesome, its one of my favs, so so catchy.
The Ghost of You 10/10 Arguably the best song on here, its the albums only ballad, its incredible.
The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You 9/10 Somewhat of a stepdown from the first 6, but its still great and catchy, you'll hum it a lot.
Interlude N/A Interludes are usually nothin special, but I must say this is relaxing.
Thank You For the Venom 9/10 One of the catchiest choruse on here, one of the two songs I heard before buying the cd.
Hang 'Em High 8.5/10 Worst song on the album, has a country feel to it. Still catchy, typical MCR.
It's Not A Fashion Statement, Its A Deathwish 9.5/10 The song on the album that really gows on you, good beggining, the real song has the f word in it.
Cemetary Drive 9/10 Has great lyrics, and a good beat. Nothin too special though.
I Never Told You What I Do For A Living 9/10 Ends the album pretty good, could be better but not much to complain about.

Incase You Do Not Have The Time To Read the Track By Track Review, look at this:
Top 5
1. The Ghost Of You(I'm A sucker For Ballads)
2. I'm Not Okay(I Promise)(Underrated and dang catchy)
3. Helena(One of the best openers I've ever heard)
4. You Know WHat They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison(Unique tune)
5. Its Not A Fashion Statement, It's A Deathwish(It Grows On You)

Anyways, check this album out. Its so catchy and unique that you can not go wrong with spending 12 bucks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow, July 8 2004

I'm a pretty picky person when it comes to music. I truly enjoy only a handful of bands, and My Chemical Romance has been in my top 3 for a while. I pre-ordered an autographed copy of this cd before it even came out, so even if it sucked I'd probably like it. Anyways, it's completely amazing, just like i knew it would be. I think it would appeal to more people than the first album "I brought you my bullets, you brought me your love", but i don't really see it in a 'sell-out' way. I guess it feels like the general demeanor is not quite as dark and brooding as the previous album.

Track 1 (Helena) is absolutely amazing. The first time i heard it, it reassured me that the album would be just as awesome as the first. 15/10

Track 2 (Give em hell, kid) I personally feel like it's a step down from Helena, but still pretty good. 9/10

Track 3 (To the end) is another one of my favorites, even though it probably wouldn't appeal to a ton of people. 10/10

Track 4 (you know what they do to guys like us in prison) isn't one of my favorites, but it's just awesome because Bert McCracken (of The Used) does some of the screaming and whatnot and almost anything he does amazes me. 9/10

Track 5 (I'm not okay)is the single, not really a song that stands out to me, but it's pretty easy to enjoy. 8/10

Track 6 (The Ghost of You) completely blows me away, it's much softer than most of the cd but it's a beautiful and emotional song. 10/10

Track 7 (The jetset life is going to kill you) is yet another great song, it's louder and faster than the previous song. 9/10

Track 8 (interlude) isn't what I expected, it's much better. Quiet music and Gerard singing very softly, it sounds really beautiful. 9/10

Track 9 (Thank you for the venom) is the 3rd song I previed off of this cd, and WOW. It's amazing. Back to being loud and fast, more punk-feeling than most of the cd. 10/10

Track 10 (Hang em high) is another one I enjoy quite a bit, it starts out kind of country-sounding and then breaks out into erratic, loud, obnoxious music. One of the only songs that Gerard screams on. 11/10

Track 11 (it's not a fashion statement, it's a deathwish) isn't one of my favorites, but I could understand it appealing to other people. 9/10

Track 12 (Cemetary Drive) is tied with track 1 for my personal favorite. Quite a bit softer than the majority of the cd, but with beautiful vocals and awesome lyrics. It's amazing. 15/10

Track 13 (I never told you what I do for a living) isn't one of my favorites, but it's actually a pretty good song. 9/10

Overall an awesome cd, ever since it was delivered to my house on the day it was released (June 8, 2004) it hasn't left my cd player. I'd recommend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars If this album doesn't kick a**, I don't know what does, July 24 2006
This review is from: Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge (Audio CD)
I love this album so much, it's been my journal for the past year...I think that many people can connect with MCR's lyrics in their own ways, which makes them different from other bands. I love all the tracks, and I've never (and will never) get bored of them.

They've inspired me so much that because of them, I decided to start playing the guitar. Speaking of guitar, I love the guitar riffs in a lot of the songs, and then when you combine that with Gerard's amazing voice & the awesome lyrics you get a band that I will certainly never forget.
