Great British Comedy, Dec 31 2008
This review is from: Are You Being Served?: The Complete Collection, Series 1-10 [14 Discs] (DVD)
A long-running British sitcom about the trials and tribulations of the staff and management of a London department store. It's typical of the very low budget 1970's British TV series' that work not because of expensive production values, which it didn't have, but because of the quality of the actors and the chemistry between them. It's also typically British in that rather than try for huge belly laughs, it aims more for smiles and chuckles, which it delivers in a steady stream. This is one of those delightful series' that you can watch over and over again and you keep smiling and chuckling every time, even though after a while you know the dialog as well as the actors do. Also, it's totally family friendly; no "adult themes, language or nudity". If you're tired of violent dramas and unfunny mass produced sitcoms, grab a bowl of popcorn, put your feet up and enjoy an episode or three of Are You Being Served?

My parents liked this show and used to watch it years ago. When I saw it I immediately took to it and watched it on TV whenever I had the chance. I heard about the DVD collection and knew I wanted it, no regrets! All the ones I remember are there (ie. 'German Week'), as well as ones I have never seen. Hours of fun and laughs and all in digitally restored glory (unlike grainy TV stock footage). Highly recommend to anyone familiar or even unfamiliar with this series, will not disappoint.
