This review is from: Highwaymen [Import] (DVD)
I do not write movie reviews. This movie silently surfaced while storm clouds gathered around the anticipated opening of Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ, and I went to see it to see Caviezel's last "pre-Jesus" film role. I'm glad I did, so don't let the previous review throw you off. This is an intelligent movie: Cavievel plays a decent man who is at the end of his sanity - convinced that he saw his wife murdered, sent to prison for an accident (or was it?) which leaves him wondering if he is the reason for the highwayman's coast to coast automotive killing spree, which is seen by the authorities as simply unrelated traffic fatalities. Until he discovers the highwayman has finally made the mistake of leaving a survivor - who is the witness (and bait) he needs. The film borrows elements from "The Car", "Christine", "Hannibal" and, of course, "Mad Max". With Cavievel's character driving a muscled-up vintage Plymouth Duster, and the imminent release of "The Passion", I kept thinking I would see Gibson in this movie with a walk-on role, or at least see his name somewhere in the credits. It's that good.
