such a musically gifted guy...,

everything about this CD is awsome. He starts off with a sick slow beat lyrically sound song in mcee murda, and then goes on and on switching up his styles. He'll throw some up-beat reggae at you, then switch it up to pure hip hop. I can sense a hint of jazz in this CD which adds another style to the list in K-OS's arsenal. Great CD, one of my all time favs...

Truly Joyful,

Though it might not seem as "hiphop" as 2002's Exit, Kheaven "k-os" Bereton comes back in force with some new arsenal. Just picking up where he left off, k-os adds rock/funk/folk sounds throughout the majority of the album. Although this might seem to scare away hiphop heads or casual fans, fear no more. From the introductionary alarming "Emcee Murdah" through the self-explanatory "Papercutz", you are in for a wild ride. Lead off single "B-Boy Stance" is a pure hiphop anthem that will get you "standin' in your b-boy stance" quicker than the beats' rpms. The 2nd single is "Crabbuckit" where k-os explains his non-conformity. We also get a taste of "Neutroniks" which was previously available through the US release of "Exit". If you're not scared of variety and profound lyricism, than look no further.I see all these reviews stating "best Canadian this best Canadian that"...how about "best album of the year" or "best artist"!? Just stop categorizing artists by their provenance and let's start classifying them by their artform!

Absolutely Brilliant,

Joyful Rebellion is such a nice change of pace from the bling bling era mainstream hip hop is mired in. The lyrics are well thought and sincere, the beats are catchy. If you like artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, and Common it is more than likely k-os will find some serious playing time on your cd player. This album will not disappoint. Pick up his previously released "Exit" too. There's always a message involved with k-os. He is a true artist trying to communicate a worthy message. Joyful Rebellion against the current state of hip hop indeed.

one of the best hip hop cd's ever made,

the second album by k-os left me absolutly in awe of what one visionary can create. the depth and diversity of this album allows for an experience unlike any my ears have had the pleasure of hearing before. anyone who enjoys amazing talent being displayed should by this album. k-os creates an album that not only has excellent music on it but also stands up as one of the few positive voices left in the hip hop wasteland that has been created by todays rap superstars. thankyou for this album, it is a reminder of just how good music can be. by the way if you ever get a chance to see k-os live i would highly recommend not passing up the opportunity he brings an awsome energy to his live show and does not dissapoint, his live version of superstar is amazing.

It could have my 5 stars.but the copyright protection ruin the CD once again, I can't put it into my iPod or computer media to listen to! What a waste! I'm so disappointed that Amazon should state the fact if the CD is copyright protected.

When I heard Man I Used To Be and Crabbuckit on the radio I liked them a lot so I figured I would buy the album and find out just how good K-OS was. When I first listened to the album I was disappointed because it was not what I expected, but I figured I would give it a chance and play it through a couple times. Three or four reruns later I couldn't play it enough. And from then on my addiction to the K-OS and his Joyful Rebellion just kept on growing.K-OS is a breath of fresh air from the more 'popular' hip-hop artists. Distancing himself from the obscene lyrics and the 'gangsta' rapper image K-OS shows what being emcee is all about. Its not about having fancy cars, beautiful girls and dying in a blazing gunfight, its about making good music. And thats exactly what K-OS does without any of the ego stroking or negative stereotypes. There are some songs which are little weak such as One Blood and Hallelujah but otherwise K-OS's lineup in Joyful Rebellion is air tight. Dirty Water, the product of his colusion with Sam Roberts (another great Canadian artist) is excellent. Other tracks that are exceptional are B-Boy Stance, Neutroniks, Emcee Murdah and Crucial.

When i first bought this cd i was wondering what the hell i was doing.. Considering im a classic rock lover, but this cd totally bites you where you least expect it. K-os ( Kevin ) Really found a way to blend all of the other genres together like rock , r&b ( the real r&b not the sleasy commercial BS ) , acoustic , and rap. If you really love music and canadian artists buy this cd, It'll leave you wanting more. I also recommand k-os's dvd It really shows what he really went through to create is real enjoyable music.

I was a little fishy buying this album at first but i for sure got the bang for my buck. This was an amazing album and i am so glad i picked it up.Don't get me wrong i Love 2pac,50 Cent all those guys but this style is just so good i couldn't help but like this album. The 3 singles are off the hook but the best song is "Love Song". 2pac is still the best ever though!

Joyful Rebellion Leads the Way,

This review is from: Joyful Rebellion (Audio CD)
Somehow, saying the Joyful Rebellion is amazing does not seem to do this album justice. Not only is it a throwback and reminder of the true hip-hop days, it could not have come at a better time. Hip-hop has had a lot of mainstream garbage coming out, however it does not mean hip-hop is dying. Real hip-hop is out there and K-os is one of the leaders in providing thought provoking lyrics with genuine beats. His lyrical ability is incredible and he truly pushes the boundries of hip-hop. It is no wonder he is so well respected and loved in Toronto. I do not know how big he is in other cities or in the States, but if you are reading these words and want an album that will bring you back to the days of A Tribe Called Quest then you MUST pick up this album. If you enjoyed this album check out OHMEGA WATT'S "THE FIND" or UGLY DUCKLING'S "JOURNEY TO ANYWHERE." There are some amazing lyracists out there, you just cant find them by turning on the radio. Thank you K-os.
