Almost Perfect Crimson...,

While this box is laudible on most accounts, it is one track short of perfection. Sound harsh? Perhaps. Then again, so is the omission of the full version of arguably the greatest Crimson studio track ever, that being "Starless" from the album 'Red'. For the second time no less (see "Frame by Frame" box set)! Once again, old feelings apparently cloud the judgement of King Robert by using an edited version of this song. Musically criminal! Unacceptable! Inexcusable! Get over it Mr. Fripp!Otherwise, this box is the (lesser) companion to the magnificent Vol. 2 Guide. Really, can't argue with anything else here. Superior concert sound on the 2 live discs, given the age and sources of the older material. Unless you are a hardcore completist, the 2 discs of live material for this time period of K.C. is all that most of us need. So, while I say 'buy this box', do so while purchasing the remastered version of the album 'Red' at the same time, which, in my opinion, is the ultimate K.C. Certainly right up there on par with the 1st album which is fully represented in this box. |
