5.0 out of 5 stars Rachel, your DVD is amazing
Tribal Style Bellydance has it's critics, namely those who do not consider it to be bellydance but rather world fusion dance. Those who embrace the true origional spirit of bellydance know that how the dancer applies her own style and feeling to the music is really at the core of this art form that began as women dancing for women.

3.0 out of 5 stars So, So
I was a bit dissapointed on this one. I found it a bit lightweight in the dance area. The performance dance (only one of them) was short and jumped camera angles in a distracting manner. I have seen Rachel in person and like watching her every sinewy move, but this version distracts from that. I really wanted to like this one. It may indeed be a good yoga workout and I...

Whatever your defenition, you cannot deny that Rachel Brice is a talented artist that has this dance coursing through her veins. Her explanations in the instructional DVD are clear enough for a beginner, yet the moves are challenging enough for a dancer at any level. Being a yoga instructor as well, Rachel leads you through the yoga postures with clear instructions, helpful tips, and a beautiful demonstration (Holy, this woman can MOVE!!).
Whether it is bellydance or yoga, Rachel knows what she is talking about and anyone can benefit from this DVD. The performance at the end gives you a taste of Rachel's modern take on an old art form, and those of us that dance are always inspired by her beautiful costuming creations.
Can't wait for Volume 2!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Yoga and bellydance, Dec 31 2005

I bought this DVD from a different source earlier for more than double the Amazon price, but it is still worth the money spent. True, this is not a typical "how to bellydance" instruction. It "only" teaches you some isolations - but how do you bellydance without learning isolations?? Not to mention that Rachel's style is so amazing and I have not seen anyone else do these the way she does. Also, yoga compliments the dance so well by giving a dancer the extra strength and flexibility she needs - Rachel's back bends speak for themselves. Also, the relaxation part at the end of each session is very nice. The only annoying thing is the camera work during Rachel's performance which does not let you see the whole dance but keeps jumping back and forth. I would recommend this DVD to all dancers who would like to add some yoga excercises to their usual workout and improve their technique by learning from such a wonderful dancer.

I have seen Rachel in person and like watching her every sinewy move, but this version distracts from that. I really wanted to like this one. It may indeed be a good yoga workout and I found that it made a good warmup routine if I don't feel like dancing and just need a good stretch. Not much instructional info so it would not suit a beginners needs. I would have liked to see more on the whole nature of tribal dance. I am not sure what category to place it, instructional or entertainment. It fell a bit short in both categories. It does not compare to the Jillina tapes.

Rachel Brice is an amazing dancer and this DVD is one of my favorites! It's a great workout with different options for 15, 30, or 45 min practice. Great instruction, easy to follow, good drills, a must-have!!

5.0 out of 5 stars good for basics, April 28 2007
This review is from: Tribal Fusion Belly Dance (DVD)
I enjoyed this video! Rachel focused on the basics, with good instruction & lots of time for practice. I liked the 3 options for time (15, 30, 45 minutes) because sometimes you just don't have as much time to dance as you'd like. Her flexibility is inspirational! A must for every bellydancer.

This is a wonderful DVD, however it is moderate to intense and requires flexibility and coordination or discipline and patience as you develop flexibility. If you are out of shape or new to any kind of yoga/dance instruction - I highly recommend taking at least one drop in beginner yoga class so you know how to do alternate moves with support (blocks) to avoid injury. If you want to hit the ground running, this is the DVD for you. There is no annoying chit chat or anecdotal commentary; it can be used daily without growing tired of it.

This is not a dvd that will teach you how to bellydance. It is more of a yoga and isolation workout. Either way, it's fun! I have watched it many time and gotten my money's worth. It has also helped me tone the muscles I use in my professional bellydance classes.
