Very good series - time well spent,

This was a very satisfying mini-series. The central story about Louis and Emily was so happy to begin with, but we see it grow more and more bleak over time. The side stories were also very good. A fair amount of humour made it enjoyable. At times the characters spoke directly to the camera which made it easier for the audience to understand their thoughts and moved the story along faster. All I could wish to add to this would be sub-titles would have been nice, but I was able to use the closed-captioning feature instead. Well worth the 4 hours spent!

This period drama was entertaining. The costumes and the acting were good but the story was a bit blah but this would be the fault of the writer. I kept hoping Louis would "wake up" and realize he had a faithful wife and a lovely family but he didn't which was very sad. I am not too familiar with Anthony Trollope's books but along with the dvd came an additional dvd that gave background and history on Anthony Trollope which I found very informative. He certainly had some issues to deal with in his life so that was obviously reflected in his books. He Knew He Was Right was interesting but I don't understand the title, because actually He Was Wrong, or so the story would have you believe.

I love period pieces and this was beautifully presented. The colours and costumes were delightful, but the story leaves a bit to be desired and I did NOT like the penchant for the characters speaking to the camera every once in a while. It tells the story of a young man, besotted with his wife, who believes she has been unfaithful to him. She has not and pride will not allow her to bend to his will. He becomes consumed with jealousy and it drives him mad. A sad tale. The wife, and her sister, are both just beautiful. I would like to see them again in a similar period drama. There are also two other sidelines - the minister and the young woman with her elderly aunt. The minster one is annoying. Fast forward over that part. |
