...and turn your stereo up as loud as you can stand it when playing this CD. Songs like Hot Rod Heart, Rattlesnake Highway, Blue Boy, Southern Streamline, Rambunctious Boy, Walkin' in a Hurricane - man, do they conjure up images of hot-August-night, wind-in-your-hair, combat-sweat sex! And none more so than Hundred and Ten in the Shade. What a great, great CD! If anyone ever doubted that Fogerty truly was the heart and soul of CCR, this CD should dispell those myths!

Listening to this album you can almost FEEL yourself standing at the edge of a fog-laden swamp, the haunting cries of birds and buzzing insects in the background startlingly loud. Oh yes, John Fogerty has indeed released a wonderfully atmospheric CD that's guaranteed to get your toes tapping, your shoulders shakin' and your spirit soaring. From the catchy, upbeat "Southern Streamline" to the Southern "holler" song "A Hundred And Ten In The Shade" to the bluesy "Bad Bad Boy" which closes the album, Fogerty has crafted a nearly seamless blend of (what I'll call) Cajun Rock. Don't miss this one!

JOHN FOGERTY "BLUE MOON SWAMP" 1997,
This review is from: Blue Moon Swamp (Audio CD)
I am seeing a trend with John Fogerty's solo career, it appears that he releases albums in pairs, and then waits a decade before he puts anything new out. Such is the case with "Blue Moon Swamp" and its sister "Premonition."The critically acclaimed BMS is Fogerty's return to the bluesy, delta style music that he was trying to replicate with CCR. You see, before BMS, Fogerty had never been to the delta region of the U.S. He does a good job getting the mood and the style of this music and putting his own personal style into the songs. Unfortunately, with age comes the cheesy aspect, so some of the songs are silly and down right embarrassing. Like the song about a jelly roll. What is a jelly roll anyway? The critics loved it and awarded John with best Rock and Roll album of the year at the Grammys. Highlights:

A triumphant return,

When John Fogerty returned with the good-but-not-great "Centerfield" in 1985, people were so happy that they sent it to #1 in spite of the fact that most of the songs really weren't among Fogerty's best work.In 1997 he made another comeback with this album. It didn't create as much fuss, but it is a much better record all the same. In fact, "Blue Moon Swamp" is a good a roots-rock record as anybody has managed to deliver for many, many years. A wonderful, mature blend of rock, country, blues and John Fogerty's unique "swamp sound", and one of the very few rock records of the 90s worthy of being called a masterpiece. It improves by the second, third and tenth listen, too.

John Fogerty does not disappoint you,

This is by far the best of John Fogerty's work after Creedence Clearwater Revival. Fans of CCR won't be disappointed in this more or less root rock oriented release featuring some excellent tunes. You get traditional rock in "Southern streamline", and a heavy approach in "Walking in a hurricane". All combined with some groovy tracks as well as some slower blues inspired numbers. I guess Fogerty doesn't give a s**t about contemporary music and that's the way we like it. Highly recommended!

Over the years, John has spoken of the elusive sound he's attempted to find. In Blue Moon Swamp, I think he finally found that voice. It's easy to argue that this is his most fully realized work - and I'm including the Creedence era. The entire album is excellent and has a sort of unifying heartbeat. The band plays exceptionally well and the recording quality does nothing to take away from the music. Long live Fogerty!

Bought this album a few years back and never gave a real listen. My mistake. Undoubtedly, this is the best album of music I've ever purchased. You can't sit still when this one plays - you're either singin' or tappin' or rockin'. What great music to drive by. Always knew John was great (loved CCR), but this is his very best!
