5.0 out of 5 stars The Man Who Planted Trees, Oct 10 2011
This review is from: The Man Who Planted Trees [Import] (DVD)
A moving story, enhanced by animation that creates an emotional mood. This is a great story of the power of one individual to bring about immense positive change in their world. Briefly, but also on a broad basis makes reference to God--athiests take cover.

The Man Who Planted Trees Sometimes I need something to overcome my feeling of helplessness and slip-sliding away that seems to be the sum of the day's, the week's, the month's media images and words - Seeing this short cartoon again, which I remember seeing many years ago, helps lessen that feeling. It is a good story made alive by the animation and drawing. It reminds me that all I can do is my best.

[This review relates to the 30-minute animated tale called "The Man Who Planted Trees", which was written by Jean Giono, and animated by Frédéric Back - not to any other work by the same title.]

Watching this short film made my family think of our lives in a completely different way, helping us to see the value of the small, everyday acts which are so easily overlooked by us, and so are not done, or are taken for granted when they are done. But patiently performed over a lifetime these small things can mean so very much to the world. I don't know of any other title that has this great message.

If you are wondering why I didn't give it 5 stars, it's because the animation, which is very misty (mystical?), and basically does suit the story, was a little bit too unclear at times for me. But maybe that's my age and poor eyesight telling .....
