"Life has to end...Love doesn't.",
By
This review is from: Five People You Meet in Heaven (DVD)
Eddie (Jon Voight) is an old man who has spent his whole life doing maintenance at the Ruby Pier amusement park. Today, one of the rides malfunctions and threatens a child's life. As he rushes to save her, he is whisked to Heaven where he meets five people from his past - people he loved and hated, and even one he didn't know at all.I expected this movie to be sappy and maudlin and in a way it was, but it was so well done I was quite moved by it. Eddie's trip to Heaven is much like Scrooge's in "A Christmas Carol," but instead of three ghostly guides, Eddie is met by five people who touched his life or who were affected by his and who ease his transition to the great beyond. It's a fantasy world with frightening war scenes and innocent love scenes, and while I watched I couldn't help but think of my own life, quite ordinary like Eddie's, but who knows how many I have affected for better or worse? I tear up easily at sad movies, but this time I went far beyond sobbing; I wailed the whole time. The movie really got to me. We're all going to find out what death is like someday and I'm more than curious. Also, as I've aged and lost dear ones, I long to see them again. This is a thought-provoking, tender tale that really touched my heart.

A friend gave me the Book FIVE PEOPLE YOU MEET IN HEAVEN . The very same night the Movie was on TV.Generaly the book is better than the Movie. But not in this case.Anyway -I loved it ,it warms your heart. My friend never saw the Movie .I was looking high and low to find a copy somewhere. So just before Christmas I had this inspiration- Amazon -and low and behold there it was.I ordered 3 copies. One for my friend and one for me, the other one for my daughter. We all loved it and are touched by this wonderful story. The day after my daughter and her husband were watching it,they visited friends, and the Lady excitedly told her about this book she came across-Five people you meet in Heaven.Of course she had to borrow the DVD. It seems the Book and/or the DVD is finding the people who are interested in such things. It is such a heart warming and surprising story ,it makes ME looking forward to meet my Five people in Heaven. Eberhard Hahn

This is one of those movies where you think everything is predictable, but jump on for the ride and this movie will make you think. We always wonder why certain people come into our lives, and this is a great demonstration of such...you will not have wasted time with this one!!

An Amazing Journey,

"Five People You Meet In Heaven" is a beautifully written book and should be a must read for everyone, but should not be in your collection as it's the kind of book you immediately pass on, (I've purchased 5 copies so far!)But that said, this movie of the same name, produced by Hallmark in 2004, is an Amazing Journey that totally recreates the book. It is professionally filmed, excellent sets, vivid dialogue and very true to the book. You will not be disappointed to watch this movie with your loved ones, your parents, your best friends or even by yourself, time-after-time. It is poignant and real and thought provoking and if you can get through to the end without tearing-up, God bless you.

I bought this on the recommendation of a family member who had previously seen the movie on television. The story moves along logically and I found it to be worthwhile viewing, being a more sophisticated story on the lines of Touched by an Angel, except of course, he doesn't have the opportunity to come back and get his act together, which is a more realistic approach. I recommend it for more than one viewing as more is learned each time you see it.
