5.0 out of 5 stars At last !, May 9 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Les Aventures de Tintin, Vols. 1-5 (DVD)
This is a day that die hard Tintin fans in Canada (such as yours truly) have long been waiting for. I was actually looking at my new purchase in a restaurant and I had someone rush over and ask me where I got the set.

The picture and sound quality are terrific and the plots and drawings are almost exact replicas of the beloved books. The price for the boxed set is unbelievable !

Definitely a collector's item, to be passed on in the family to many generations of kids (big and small !).

Can't wait for the Sept 13 release of the second volume.

Don't miss out on this if you are a true Tintin fan !

these are wonderful to watch - I guess Tintin is one of those things that people either love or hate - and we happen to be in the "love it" category.

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the Comic, Mar 14 2010

Great production of the series, with beautiful graphics true to the original! Only one little thing: many of the episodes are not in the original sequence, and there is continuity between many episodes with characters and events, so get a list and watch them in the correct order - the cover images are on the TinTin(dot)com website under 'About tintin\all the albums', and clicking on each cover gives the date it was produced and a little synopsis of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent content, only fair-to-middlin' on the packaging, Jan 17 2010

There is no argument the shows are excellent, and all ages will enjoy watching them.

Where this set (and its twin) fall short is on the packaging and the price point. These sets are simply the individual DVDs slapped into slipcased sets of 5. No extra features, some discs are just barely over an hour long. All the content on the 10 discs could fit on only 4 DVDs. The list price for the first set of 5 discs has dropped from $53 to $35, and it sits as of this writing at $25. If you could buy all 10 discs for a total $50 that would be reasonable, especially when you compare to something like THE CLONE WARS SEASON 1 which sells for $53 for 4 discs that contain close to the same total amount of show-time content, and have extras to boot.

In my opinion all the episodes should have been repackaged into one DVD set of 4 discs, with a cleaned up digital transfer to enhance the colours somewhat. Again, absolutely no complaint on the shows themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars What stories are in this collection?, April 9 2006
This review is from: Les Aventures de Tintin, Vols. 1-5 (DVD)
My 3 boys love Tintin. We already have a few stories on VHS. Could somebody please tell me what stories are in this collection? I'm not sure which one I should buy -- i.e. Vol. 1-5 or Vol. 6-10. Thank you! Merci!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Impressive, Nov 29 2005

While previous attempts to make the Tintin books into cartoons failed miserably (bad animation, poor adaptations of the original stories), these 1990s Nelvana cartoons are excellent. Out of necessity and some political correctness, some of the adventures have been altered a little (eg: Tintin battles diamond smugglers instead of opium smugglers) but these are minor critiques. Overall, these cartoons are a treat to watch and any serious Tintin fan will love them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Something great from the past., Sep 5 2005

As a child growing up in Great Britain, I watched all episodes of Tintin during the sixties. Now I have bought this boxed set so that my children can see the show that I enjoyed so much. Now I see that the cartoons have been shortened. In 'Destination Moon,' Tintin and the others were supposed to travel to the moon in a rocket called XM1. But some bad guys took off in it, so Tintin and the others followed in a rocket called XM2. I clearly remember that, even after four decades. Somehow, that part was cut out. Even still, my children love the show as much as I did, so I give it five stars.
