Wow!,

This review is from: System Of A Down:Mesmerize (Audio CD)
I have been a fan of SOAD since Toxicity came out 4 years ago. I then aquired their other albums ever since. They are hard to categorize...metal, thrash, progressive..whatever. In my opinion this is they're best effort to date. I've been eagerly awaiting this for along time and I'm not disappointed. I was pleasantly suprised how melodic and alternatively hard this album is. It just shows they're amazing range and depth. The lyrics are political, and sometimes weird as previously mentioned by another reviewer, but never boring. I'm looking forward to the second half, "Hypnotize", coming out this fall. This album and the follow-up have been a painfully long time in coming, but well worth the wait. If you are a SOAD fan you'll love this album and if you haven't heard them, check it out.

Everybody who listens to SOAD's new album will say that it's good --> but too short, or not original, or too original, or Blah, Blah, Blah! They are artists and no matter what none of their albums will ever be the same! This one was great and I believe that Hypnotise will be just as good! No they did not sell out and no they are not trying to get more money..... The CD's less then $10.00! Daron and Serj do wonderful Justice to vocals with eachother and I think that whether or not you are already a SOAD fan you should get this CD! There's something on there for everyone, so yeah you might not like one or two songs..... but I can't remember ever liking all of the songs on any CD! And quite honestly..... I LOVE EVERY SONG ON THIS CD! Can't wait til the next one!

When I first heard this album I found it mediocre at best, but as I listened to it a few more times over I began to really love it. It's the System of a Down you know and love. Some songs have deep inner meanings while others are just random by my reckoning. Overall you get a feelings of metal and the vocals are superb. "Question" I found was one of the best songs on there, with its excellent sound and tune as well as meaningful lyrics. Overall I'd get this CD, ESPECIALLY if you are a SOAD fan. But, do give it some time if you don't like it at first.

I'd never listened to a SOAD album before this one. I'd describe my first experiance listning to them as "refreshingly weird." I've never listened to music like this before. Sure, I listen to a lot of metal, but I've never heard music manipulated like this until I came across this album. And I think what they do with the music kicks ass. I also love the interesting lyrics. The only downside I can think of about this album is that it's a bit on the short side.

THE BEST system album to date,

Let me just say that this album is without a doubt in my mind,a masterpiece. The Armenian wonders seem to have changed their style this time around, but at the same time have remained delightfully stable, maintaing the uniqueness that got themselves recognized in the first place. Catchy tunes such as "Radio/Video", "Lost in Hollywood", "Revenga" and the previously released "B.Y.O.B" deliver what may be the most pleasant shit ever to grace my ears.System of a Down does not believe in fillers when it comes to constructing an album. This is made evident by the fact that every song on this album will thrill you, chill you and fulfill you. Considering that most bands as of late have left me LOW with new album attempts, I am pleased to report that System of a Downs' MEZMERIZE will blow your mind. Keep in your thoughts also that the next record, HYPNOTIZE, will be hitting store shelves this Fall (Sept. 25 is the word on the streets).

Disc one of the Mesmerize/Hypnotize era. This cd is for the more hardcore fanbase of SOAD, those that treasure Toxicity. If you liked any song on that album, you won't be disapointed when listening to this album. The cords are as techinical as they have ever been, the bass lines are great, the drumming is excellent too. The only problem is that vocals have been switched to another band member. This is why I take a star down, since the original vocalist proves that he can still sing.Damon or whatever his name is wants more power, which is probably why the band disbanded after these 2 recordings. That's unfortunate, I hope they can get back together. There is some songs that are downright hilarious, some will make you wonder, while some are just plain weird. Why don't you go get this? 4/5

SOAD is Back and Better Than Ever,

Mesmerize, the first album of two doesn't disappoint. Loud, and introspective lyrics ranging from the on-going drug problems in L.A. to the political climate in the world. With the help of super producer Rick Ruben, and brilliantly executed by Daron, Serg, John and Chavo, the album shows great diversity in it's sound. System of a Down isn't just a loud band with screaming lyrics, it's a band that constantly evolves into new sounds and original music with every new album, and they have something to say that's important. This band has only solidified itself as the heirs apparent to the space left behind with Rage Against the Machine's break up, also proving that the alternative music scene is still alive and thriving.
