It's like watching them for the first time..., July 28 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Northern Exposure: The Complete Third Season (DVD)
This is so much better than the first two DVDs. The set-up is a lot easier and (the best part) there's so many more shows to watch! I was a huge fan back in the day but I haven't seen any of the shows since the early '90s so it's like watching them again for the very first time. I am reminded why I used to like the show and I'm happy to note that I STILL like the show all these years later.

Love this Series, Aug 11 2010
This review is from: Northern Exposure: The Complete Third Season (DVD)
It feels odd writing a review for the third season of a television series but I will give it a stab. My BF has season one and two and I watched them for the first time this year. When Northern Exposure first aired 20 years ago, for some reason I missed it altogether and in a way am glad, as I think I enjoy and appreciate it now, 20 years older, more than I would have then. After watching the first 2 seasons, I became 'hooked' and went on to buy seasons 3-5 (BF has the last season, six). I love this series because of the multiple perspectives it explores on the various aspects of life via the cast of characters. Each character is a bit of a stereotype (the blonde bimbo, the rugged hunter, the republican capitalist, the arty-philosopher, the 'fish-out-of-water' New York physician, and so on. Set in small-town, Alaska, with several first nations characters playing large roles (example Ed, the young film director) the series has a warm and folksy feel without being sentimental. I love the way the characters, even though somewhat stereotyped, have depth and continually surprise (just like real people). The writing is intelligent, witty, the acting superb, the storylines (usually 2 or 3 in each episode) original and interesting and the general feeling I get is that I would like to move to that little town! For it's day, the series was quite progressive, including several storylines with a 'gay' theme, but in a very gentle not 'in-your-face' kind of way and again, turning the stereotypes upside-down while still preserving them. I will be VERY sorry when I have seen all of the episodes. I can't say enough about this series- mature and insightful enough in the topics it explores for the 21 Century when TV now has 'f' words, but sweet and funny and warm- an antitode to the pressures of life and a nice way to spend an evening.

Even better then the first two, Oct 17 2006
This review is from: Northern Exposure: The Complete Third Season (DVD)
I was amazed. Having seen various episodes of this show when they first came out in the 90s, I was under the impresion that the earliest shows were the best. I bought the first two seasons recently and thought they were great, but the third season blew me away. Alot more episodes for your buck, and the writing just got better and better. This is one of the best shows that ever made it to TV.
