5.0 out of 5 stars One of her best, if not her best..., Feb 22 2007

This review is from: Jann Arden:Jann Arden (Audio CD)
I can't believe I never coasted in here and posted a review for this CD. Quite simply, this disc is fantastic. It ranks very highly in my Jann Arden collection. In fact, I have to say it has surpassed "Happy?" to be my favorite Jann album. Every song is wonderful. I LOVE "Beautiful Pain"! "Calling God"! "I'd Be Glad"! There is so much to like about his record. It's got a little bit of everything. Rock on Jann!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jann Arden back around, stronger than ever....., Dec 24 2005

This review is from: Jann Arden:Jann Arden (Audio CD)
Jann Arden is a singer/songwriter/musican I always look forward to hearing. This lady can sing! Like woman singers
before her, Anne Wilson(Heart), Martha Davis(from the Motels), and
Bonnie Raitt, these multi-talented singers with BIG voices have all battled something, be it weight,
alcohol, sickness and recovery, they have also had a time with
radio not playing their music (for one reason or another?) and
have stuck it out and continued on, because like Arden they
have more talent than any of these over-produced "finds" that
record companies play at us on tv land. Jann's only fault is she does it her way and is one hell of a songwriter. Its putting
the music with her words and finding the right combination of
people she surrounds herself with that keep it all together.
There isn't one collection that doesn't have several songs on
them that make the record memorable, "Jann Arden", no exception
filled with great music and the one of kind talents of Jann
Arden. Since her breakthrough "Living under June" album only
hinted at her genius(and brought her "hit" singles and the
fame and luckily found its way down to the states, she has evolved into one of my favorite
artists to listen to, moody, sad at times and whether you're
a guy or a girl, she will find something to touch you and draw
you in, its sad that radio(and their big brother Record Companies) in the states only sees the "hit single" potential in artists and not the long run career of
talented singer/songwriters like Jann Arden. Radio seems
to only want you if you're the total babe package, their loss.
I will continue seeking out her great adult pop/rock collections, don't give up on yourself Jann Arden, you're just
coming into your own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, May 6 2005
This review is from: Jann Arden:Jann Arden (Audio CD)
Time after time, Jann Arden has proven herself to be an exceptional artist with excellent writing skills. This album is no exception. Jann is so comical in interviews and she has a wonderful, witty personality which made me love her music even more. She deserves all the success she has received. Anyone looking for great music by a genuinely talented, AND Canadian, artist should pick up a copy of Jann Arden's new album. You will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5-star disc, 1-star demerit for the hard-to-read booklet, July 18 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Jann Arden:Jann Arden (Audio CD)
Truth be told, I was so indifferent to Jann Arden's last couple of discs that I nearly sat this one out. Which would have been a pity because as many armchair Amazon reviewers have pointed out, Jann's latest is one of her most consistently satisfying since Living Under June. But the CD booklet is a most user UNfriendly layout for listeners such as myself who like to scan the lines of verse while the disc is playing. Lines of text in all different directions, running this way and that. Printed in colors that bleed into the colors of the page. (In other words, not enough contrast in colors.) I mean, why even BOTHER to reprint the lyrics if they're going to be unreadable? Why even BOTHER to reprint the lyrics if they're going to appear in a microscopic point size? (And I'm in my thirties with perfect vision!) The front cover is beautiful, but whose idea was it to list the song titles (the so-called "stacking order") in a circle on the back cover? Easy reference? Nope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant - Fun, insightful, dark, April 25 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Jann Arden:Jann Arden (Audio CD)
Jann Arden, a master poet and musician, has accomplished something few muscians can muster: she has laid her soul bare to the world against a melting pop of pure radio pop, hopefully melancholy, and joyful bliss. From the synth-pop brilliance of the first single, "Wher No One Knows Me", to the dark, haunting story of "How Good Things Are", Arden has captured all the elements of real life and daily existence in twelve perfect little vignettes. Standout tracks include the eerie, Bjork-reminscent "Life Is Sweet", the guitar-ladden prayer "Calling God", the ambient, heart-wrenching "Beautiful Pain", and the simple, yet joyous "A Perfect Day". For long-time Arden enthusiasts, there is an updated version of Arden's timeless classic, "I Would Die For You", featuring none other than Canadian chanteuse Sarah McLachlan on duet vocals.
