So Much Love For DMB,
This review is from: Stand Up- DUAL DISC (Audio CD)
Stand Up is the kind of cd that, if you let it, will grab you by the shirt collar and give you a good shake. Most who consider themselves old school DMB "fans" have complained about its lack of similarity with their earlier work. Since when is innovation a bad thing? I have heard all but one of these songs played live and good lord...the guys can do some amazingly creative things with them. "Louisana Bayou," "Die Trying," Hello Again," and "Hunger For the Great Light" are already fan favourites, but every track on this cd has earned its spot. Take a listen, discard your opinions about what DMB should sound like, and allow the natural talent of these 5 guys to come through.

This LP makes Coldplay look like the lightweights they are. It rivals the Stones new material for sure and is perhaps Dave's best since Crash, which to me was his breakthrough lp. I don't know what other fans who pooped on this CD were looking for. this CD has it all. The only disappointment for me is the title track which is an obvious knockoff one off for the corporate types to use. Other than that this lp has such a variety of music on it I suggest the complainers go back to their hovels and put on the big speakers and turn it UP LOUD!

Dave's breaking my heart....,
This review is from: Stand Up- DUAL DISC (Audio CD)
As a die-hard DMB fan, I was eagerly awaiting this album; having seen them live last summer -- a concert in which they paraded out such soon-to-be hits as "Joyride" -- I expected Stand Up to be a welcome change from the likes of Everyday and Busted Stuff, full of joyous jams, passionate vocals, and the introspective lyrics for which Dave is known. Unfortunately, this album delivered none of the above and, strangely, didn't even include the new tunes DMB was recently touring. Perhaps I haven't yet given it time to grow on me, but I've found Stand Up to be lyrically cliche and lacking the musical energy and improvisatory spirit (where are Roi and Boyd, for one thing??) of DMB's '90's releases. I appreciate the album's political inflections, but don't think style need be sacrificed for them. I'm giving this album two stars, but only for sentimental reasons -- I've been a huge fan for so long, and refuse to accept defeat :) If you're interested in getting into DMB, don't bother with this album...I'd suggest starting with the pleasant tastes of Before These Crowded Streets, Live at Red Rocks, and Dave & Tim Reynolds' Live at Luther College for guaranteed satisfaction.

I've been listening to DMB since around 96 and absolutely love their music. I really believe that this disc is a defining disc in the history of DMB. Busted Stuff was okay and they really needed to make a mark with this disc. I believe the have. It's different from the old folking, jamming DMB. My thoughts are that it's differently good. It's very original, catchy and you can already here some great moments coming when they play the songs live. Some might considerate a little poppy but if you stop and really listen to what is happenning it's a great experience. You can here the passion in Dave's voice again. The reason for not being 5 stars is, I don't that think I have listened to the disc enough to say it is perfect. The DVD side is also worth buying with some good insight into how the record was made.

WOW - Dave matthews band has done it again. A new sound with soul and heart. I cannot wait to hear some of these songs live they will be great once the 5 to 10 extra minutes of jamming is added to the songs. The DMB has built its reputation on how they play live. The studio albums are just the stepping stone to the real release, that is the Live CD and the concerts which follow any new album.
