Kickin' it old-school with a twist of new,
By Aris (Canada) - See all my reviews

This album has it all: New beats, old-school rap beats, and everything in between.Blur's frontman Damon Albarn and his savvy friends take it to the next level with this album- everything from melodic, soothing beats, to songs that will make you never want to stop dancing. The two most notable tracks on the album are: DARE- catchy, you'll never want to stop dancing. Another reviewer of this album mentioned that the track sounded like it had been sung by a "weird womanly voice"- That's DAMON! Anyone who ever listened to Blur in their early days will appreciate Damons' vocals in this song. Every Plant we reach is dead- Stellar, stellar. Mellow and dancy all at once, and instantly recognized as a tune from the Mac Ipod commercial. It's got a wonderful latin feeling to it, and this one too may cause fits of dancing. This album has a little bit of everything for everyone, and if you haven't heard it, you're missing out!

I loved this CD with a passion! It's different rom their first CD but was still amazing. I loved Feel Good INC. It just made me wanna dance forever. El Manana, Dirty Harry and Fire Coming Out f The Monkey's Head were among my other faves even though the other songs on the album were mind-blowing as well. I recommend this CD to everyone ever.

Absolutely Brilliant Stuff!,

When I first heard of Gorillaz and that they were supposedly an animated hiphop band (I was going by what a friend told me) I thought they were going to suck. THEN, I heard "Feel Good Inc." on the radio and it got STUCK in my head! Anyway I went out and bought it, and I like nearly all the songs, except for "Intro" (it's dumb in my opinion) and "Oh Green World" (I can't get past the introduction without getting annoyed). The characters in the band are all weird yet somehow lovable, from the hyper cute preteen Noodle (who is a girl... I thought she was a boy!) to the calm Russel who gets possessed by ghosts, the almost zombie-like 2D to Murdoc, the Satanic bassist who lives in his Winnebago and who probably hasn't taken a good long shower for six months (and somehow manages to get me incredibly amused.) Want some unusual music that will root itself in your brain and make you want to constantly sing along? GET THIS ALBUM. NOW.

I've yet to listen to the entire album, but based on the songs that I have heard and their previous work, I'm sure this album will deliver. The first single, Feel Good Inc, is an amazingly catchy and unique song. "Don't stop get it, get it..". Anyhoo, I recommend it, but, in all honesty, once more, I haven't heard the ENTIRE album (I've heard a good portion though). I was impressed, but that's my opinion.

Not as good as first but it can't be,

One word that will explain this album... different. The album is a little off the theme of their debut and not as good but is still worth at least a listen. Some tracks really live up to what the Gorillaz can do and to their first album and some don't fall into that but I'm not saying that they are bad but that some Gorillaz fans will not enjoy the tracks as much. These tracks are:Kids With Guns, Feel Good Inc, November Has Come, and Dare. What I'm really saying is that these tracks would fit in well into the old album and the others are a little different. Really all the tracks are great and I love the CD myself except for the two last tracks. Both Don't Get Lost In Heaven and Demon Days are sung by the London Choir thingie. I did not buy this album to listen to a british choir and the songs are just bad, especially the album titled Demon Days track. Now I know why it's the last one. Even with a few negatives this album is really worth listening to. Personally I love it. A good point is that you get the coolest little picture book in it that has a picture to each track. Demon Days - 8.1 / 10

Change isn't always good,
By A Customer
This review is from: Demon Days (Audio CD)
It's great that the Gorillaz are finally back in action and this album was long overdue, but was it worth the wait? Even hearing a song from the Gorillaz is cause for celebration in itself, yet this album was sadly disappointing. It would have been a total bomb had it not been for a couple of extremely good songs that redeem the album. The first of these, Feel Good Inc., is BY FAR the best track on the album. The catchy bassline is enough to get you to put it on repeat for hours of listening. Its no surprise that it was released as a preview single before the albums official release date. Heck, it's even got its own iPod commercial so its gotta be catchy right? The other redeeming song would be Dare which has an uncharacteristically upbeat synthetic sound. Actually, the change to what they had built up in the last album seems to be the biggest problem with the entire selection of tracks. The entire second half of the is just plain weird. Attempts to lecture the listener are well meaning but very out of place. This does nothing but alienate people who are listening to their music for the first time, so really this album is aimed more at their pre-existing fan base. Other songs worth mentioning are Last Living Souls and All Alone

I was a huge fan of Gorillaz when they released their first CD. The catchy beats and trippy lyrics were stuck in my head for months, but then, they were gone. Now, time has passed, and Gorillaz are back, and they don't dissapoint.Intro - 5/10: Very odd, a very good introduction to a very strange and enjoyable CD, but it's not really a song. Last Living souls - 7/10: Pretty good beat, with an enjoyable section near the end by 2-D. Kids with guns - 7/10: This one is sung very much like Last living souls, pretty good. O-green world - 8/10: One of the better sounding songs on the CD, intense vocals by 2-D. Dirt harry - 9/10: One of my favorites. A very cool beat with the voices of 2-D and what sounds like a child choir. Feel Good inc. - 10/10: Easily the catchiest song on the CD, probably why this is the CD's chosen single. Murdoc plays an amazing beat on his guitar in this one. El manana - 10/10: Another one of my favorites. This one sounds very deep and emotional, and is good to listen too when you are alone. Every Planet we reach is dead - 7/10: You will haft to listen to this one a few times before you start to like it. The lyrics are very catchy and has a very strange/enjoyable beat. November has come - 8/10: this one is good. A very good rap and a chorus by 2-D sounds very soothing. All alone - 8/10: Another rap song. The rap sounds pretty cool, but the vocals by the lady near the end are a little over the top. White light - 3/10: this one is just scary to listen too, nuff said. Dare - 6/10: okay song, some of the singing is done by a wierd womenly voice, which doesn't sound so great. Fire comming out of a monkeys head - 7/10: More of a story then a song, it still does sound pretty good when the narrator stops talking and 2-D sings his verses. Don't get lost in Heaven - 5/10: Not my favorite, sounds wierd, but not in a good way. Demon days - 7/10: Another wierd one, allot like the intro. This just doesnt sound like a real song, but it's still interesting. |
