Great.....But,,

This review is from: Columbo: The Complete Third Season (DVD)
As always, the video quality is very good on this series of DVD's, but where the disappointment begins, is compared with the first 2 series. I did not appreciate the fact that they "cheapened" this box set. They opted for 2 discs rather than 4 like the previous series. They decided to have 2 episodes on each side ( Side A & B ) and they sloted the DVD cases on the wrong side of the Sleeve Box,making it awkward when you place it on your shelf with the others. It does not match. C'mon guys...come back to the old format for the remaining seasons and don't be CHEAP !

Columbo - Season 2,

This review is from: Columbo: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
I thoroughly enjoyed this set. All the actors put in wonderful performances. One of the best is Jeanette Nolan in Double Shock. Peter Falk as usual is awesome. For me the whole feel of series keeps me watching them over and over. It's wild to see how things looked in the early 70's. The film quality and overall production is awesome. All that is missing are some special features - would be nice to see an interview / biography of Peter Falk. And now - the wait is on for Season 3!

Columbo gets his legs,

This review is from: Columbo: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
This second season Peter Falk and the Columbo team really came into its own in the Columbo series. The cases are more smoothly developed and Columbo is no longer a member of the "local police", but from LAPD. Columbo is very much like fine wine in that the first season was good and showeed promise as a winner. The second season shows the maturity of the Peter Falk and the team at putting Columbo on screen. This is Columbo worth watching for a nice little mystery solved through a marvelous questioning technique.

Rare Barbara Colby Performance,
By BIGC (Federal Way, Wa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Columbo: Murder By the Book (VHS Tape)
Though many remember and enjoy Columbo (and rightly so), few may remember Barbara Colby who skillfully plays blackmailer/murder victim Lily LaSanka in this episode. Ms. Colby was a gifted actor, with an earthy sexiness, who made a name for herself on the stage. In the early seventies she brought herself and her talent to broader audiences through her work on television. Twice she played a hooker named Sherry on the "Mary Tyler Moore Show", with hysterical results. So well liked was she by the MTM team, that she was cast as Julie Erskine on the hit spin-off series "Phyllis". The comic chemistry between Cloris Leachman and Colby was magical. Together with Richard Schaal they had a unique and wonderful energy that showed great promise. But tragedy struck...shortly after the third episode of "Phyllis" was in the can, Barbara Colby was murdered in a drive-by shooting incident that remains unsolved to this day. This Columbo vhs offers you the rare chance to view this remarkable woman at work...she is perfect as Lily, all false modesty and big Cheshire Cat grins. Short of that there is the wonderful Jack Cassidy (who had an untimely death himself); and the magnificent Peter Falk as Columbo. P.S. Many people believe that Falk's portrayal of Columbo to be based on Lt.Kinderman, as portrayed by Lee J. Cobb in "The Exorcist"; the author of the novel, William Peter Blatty, certainly thinks so! I must say, I agree that there is a definate simialarity! Check it out! And if you can, check out the first three episodes of "Phyllis"; the series was erratic in quality, but the first three shows are classic television at it's best..it would have been a very different show had Colby survived.

Execellent Made for TV Series. A great performer, Peter Falk brings his own brand of humour and a different way of dealing with detective mysteries. All six seasons are well worth the investment.

Frustrating Technicial Difficulties,

The great episodes of Columbo contained herein this season of discs are of course great. What really sucked was the presentation and malfunction of Disc 2, at least the one I got. It consistently skipped in the same places and was even incapable of playing the first chapter of one of the episodes...if you can't catch the first all-telling first chapter of a Columbo episode, what's the point? We sent it back and got a refund and have not ordered a replacement yet. We loved the first set as far as quality and presentation, the second set was OK, and the third was plain cheap. Doubling the sides of each disc makes it look like a previously used Blockbuster Video special...When is Peter Falk himself going to make an appearance??!!

I have been a huge Columbo fan for a long time. However, I was disappointed with this second edition. There were fewer episodes than the first edition. Also, when I watch dvd's I look forward to a "special features" section with interviews and behind the scenes footage.
