Nothing But Fluff,
By
This review is from: Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Widescreen Unrated Collector's Edition) (Bilingual) (DVD)
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie play a couple of successful entrepreneurs who marry, not knowing the other's true vocation. In reality, each runs a covert spy company working for unnamed branches of the government. Six years into their marriage, they have become bored and are seeking counselling. It is not until they are assigned to eliminate each other that the sparks (and bullets) begin to fly.Director Doug Liman tries to mimic the sophistication and pacing he used in "The Bourne Identity/Supremacy", but fails to generate any suspense. Without exotic locales and intrigue, the story comes off as nothing more than a high-tech domestic squabble. Further, there is not one original idea, as every scene is lifted from another movie. Simon Kinberg's script takes an unbearably long time setting up the point that both partners are completely oblivious to the other's exploits. His attempt to pay homage to the romantic comedies of the 1930's is admirable, but the witty banter of the leads quickly becomes tiresome. Though there are some interesting twists, the narrative has more bullet holes than those on screen. Both Pitt and Jolie are ultra-cool and share a sizzling chemistry, but Mr. & Mrs. Smith seems merely an excuse to pair two of Hollywood's most attractive players. They are pleasant to watch, but the entire production is as superficial as Hollywood itself. Rating: 5 out of 10.

wow, talk about a great movie.action, comedy romance, brilliantdialogue, you name it.add to that the perfect choice of casting brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the lead roles.the basic premise of the story is that Jane (Angelina Jolie) and John Smith(Brad Pitt)are a husband and wife who have become bored with their marriage.what the they don't know is that each is a top assassin.and each has been contracted to kill the other.all i can day is is if you're looking for high octane action, comedy, romance, look no further.the chemistry between Jolie and Pitt is so palpable it crackles.the action scenes will leave you breathless, the witty dialogue is brilliant.Vince Vaughn plays Eddie, friend to john and is hysterical in the comic relief dept.it should come as no surprise that this a well crafted film, considering it is directed by Doug(The Bourne Identity)Liman, another great action picture. The great writing comes courtesy of Simon Kinburg, who also wrote X-men-the Last stand.as for "Mr and Mrs Smith" a perfect 5/5

Boo 2,

This review is from: Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Widescreen Bilingual Edition) (DVD)
I agree with the author of the Boo review. This film is a waste of time and effort on the part of any audience who needs more than images of Brad Pitt to entertain them. While disappointing in general, the most disappointing plot elements were the fact that it took too long to end and when it did, Mr. and Mrs. Smith were still living. Rarely have I prayed so strongly for the demise of the heroes but then, rarely have I seen such a terrible film.

Do you want to watch a movie that makes you think?. Go watch another movie, it is as simple as that. But if you simply want to have some fun, give "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" a try.The film starts with a bored couple that goes to a marriage counselor in order to do something to save their marriage. They seem a couple like many others, so immersed in their routine that they hardly pay attention to each other. John Smith (Brad Pitt) is an architect, Jane Smith (Angelina Jolie) works with computers. They have dinner at seven o'clock everyday, and don't talk too much. But... not all is at it seems in their apparently ordinary lives. As a matter of fact, both are assassins working for rival companies. Neither Jane nor John knows about the extracurricular activities of their other half, despite the fact that they have been married for six years. But soon enough they will find out, as both are assigned the same target, "The tank" (an adorable Adam Brody). Will things get worse before they get better?. Can we expect to enter into a combat zone when the Smiths start to solve their domestic issues?. And will we enjoy it?. See the movie, and find out!. What more can I say about "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", so you have more elements to decide whether you will watch it?. Let's see... To start with, this movie has lots of action (guns, knives and bombs included), so if you don't like action movies I don't advice you to choose it. Also, there is sharp dialogue that is surprisingly funny sometimes, mostly when the Smiths are bickering (thank you, Simon Kinberg, for the screenplay). What is more, you can always enjoy Brad and Angelina's on-screen chemistry, that is really outstandingly good. On the other hand, I felt that the ending was somehow contrived, and that some kind of closure was missing. That is the reason why I will probably watch this film again when it is released in dvd, in the hope that the director (Doug Liman) decides to give us an alternate ending that makes more sense. All in all, I really liked this movie. It is far from perfect, but quite enjoyable nonetheless, so I will give it 3.5 stars out of 5. For me, watching "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" was fun. You will probably enjoy it too, if you know what you are getting into when you get your ticket. That is, no profound thoughts, but good entertainment all the same. That was more than enough for me, in this case :) Belen Alcat

Entertaining despite a mediocre script and other problems,

If you can get through the rather tedious first half hour or so, Mr. and Mrs. Smith finds its legs and makes for plenty of entertaining action and adventure. That first half hour can be pretty rough, though, as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie really seem to sleepwalk through their roles. Doubtlessly, this is due in no small part to the nature of their characters, two highly-ranked assassins going through the motions of a normal husband and wife in order to hide their real jobs from one another. I think it goes deeper than the script, though. Jolie has always gone all out for her characters, but for quite a while I just didn't think she put her heart into this particular role - ironic, given the fact that she and Pitt began their little love affair during filming. I have to admit that the whole real-life romantic triangle thing dampened my enjoyment of the film, to a certain degree. For me, there's a definite ick factor in watching Mr. and Mrs. Smith, since in a sense you're watching a real-life adulterous affair play out right in front of your eyes. The plot is pretty basic and nothing we haven't seen before. Girl meets boy, girl marries boy, girl and boy try to kill each other. For the first six years of their marriage, John Smith (Pitt) and his lovely wife Jane (Jolie) are completely unaware that their partner is, like themselves, a high-level assassin. How they go traipsing all over the world killing people and still manage to return in time for 7:00 dinner every night is just one of many questions the writer chose to blissfully ignore. They really have little reason to suspect one another, though, because their suburban home lifestyle is exceedingly boring. Whatever spark of romance they once shared, it's long gone by this point. Everything changes, however, when they get in each other's way on separate missions centered on the same target. Neither can afford to let the other blow his/her cover, so their respective agencies quickly pit them against one another. Of course, things get a little more involved after that, but you can see where this whole thing is going. Finally, once the Smiths stop being so painfully civil to one another, their characters finally begin to show signs of life. Too many attempts to be funny during the heat of battle only reinforces the weakness of the entire script, however, leaving you unable to enjoy all of the mayhem and things that go boom as much as you think you should. Sure, some of the dialogue is funny, but most of the time it just seems terribly contrived. With all of its explosions, big guns, and all-around violence, Mr. and Mrs. Smith should manage to satisfy those who just can't get enough movie mayhem, and Angelina Jolie - even though she's not at her best here - still makes any movie she's in worth watching. Clearly, though, something is just missing here. Thanks largely to a relatively weak script, Pitt and Jolie never really bring you in to their characters' world, which means you are never able to forget that you're watching a movie. As a result, the film entertains but never really satisfies. It's really a 3.5 star movie; I rounded my rating up to four stars because, despite its many weaknesses, the film did manage to entertain me.

Entertaining ... but not great,
By Richard Geren "moviewatcher" (Ontario, Canada) - See all my reviews

Two spectacular actors ... Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. This action DVD is based on the premise that they are both secret agents ... married to each other but don't know their opposite's occupation until a mission draws them into deadly conflict. An interesting but less than plausible plot. Neveretheless, the story hangs together until they are forced to join forces to combat a bunch of evil villains set on killing them both. At this point, the DVD looses all subtlety and degenerates into a gratuitously violent shoot-fest. If it were not for the two actors, this DVD would be a total write-off ... but they are both so great, you are forced to watch to the bitter end. If you like Pitt, Jolie and shoot-em-ups, you will rate this 5-star.

To be honest with you, I was really curious of the onscreen connection with Angelina & Brad given all the gossip. Not only that, but I am a HUGE Brad Pitt fan- always have been and always will be (he's soo hot)! Angelina is gorgeous, and I have not seen her so hot in any other movie! I also found this movie to be entertaining. I had a few laughs and there are some very sexy action scenes. Overall, I enjoyed it very much!

One of Brad Pitt's Best!!!!,

This review is from: Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Widescreen Bilingual Edition) (DVD)
I've seen almost all of Brad Pitt's movies, I'm a huge fan! This movie was great! It's funny, and action-packed. Not much swearing, although Brad always slips in the 'F' word. Of course, you can't really enjoy a movie in a theatre, when a women sitting infront of you won't stop laughing at EVERYTHING Brad says! What the hell!?! But it's a very funny, and awesome movie. I recommend it to anyone that's a Brad Pitt fan, or someone who's looking for a good action/comedy movie. So, I now I'll be saving some money for November 29th!

Utterly Awful,

I borrowed this movie to watch expecting to see something entertaining and smart but found it utterly horrible. The characters were shallow and unlikeable. How can you like someone who murders indiscriminately for a living, never blinking an eye. The writing was bad; it was not funny; and not being a Pitt or Jolie fan, I can look at it without the prejudice of being infatuated. It stunk. Save your money.
