5.0 out of 5 stars Very interesting stuff
This is the yardstick by which all greatest hits albums should be measured. Some may disagree with the track selection, and to me leaving stuff off "The Audio Of Being" from this album is a mistake, but this is a great compilation.

As an Australian out here in the antipodes, the DVD is the thing that makes this outstanding. Matt Good videos do not get played...

Sure a double disc of some old stuff can be boring, however it has some cool things involved in it no doubt. and for the last comment that was displayed. That person doesn't realize that the voice, lyrics and messages are still the same. Just with different people supporting him. Still a great Canadian voice out there!

As an Australian out here in the antipodes, the DVD is the thing that makes this outstanding. Matt Good videos do not get played out here, and his songs don't for that matter, but too see the development of the visual form of his songs is fascinating.

I would recommend this to any person with an interest in Matthew Good's career.

Those who choose to rubbish this album by attacking the man should have a real close look at themselves, give themselves a few uppercuts and get a life!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars to the 1 star reviewer, Mar 30 2007

Your facts don't mean a thing, and whether or not they are true are irrelevant. What matt did as a teenager is his business. It is what he is doing with his life now that is relevant. Why is it wrong to idolize someone whom is politically outspoken , and who is trying to change the world for the better? What does matt being hit in the head with a shoe have to do with anything? Next time do some research before you criticize someone.

Now For The Album

The Album is 5 stars, but I think it would be better for you to go out and by his other records 1 by 1 and listen to them. Matt has always been in the business of making albums, and by that I mean he does not put filler on the albums. Everyone of his songs is heartfelt and is worth your money. Of course there are songs Matt personally has grown to hate such as, indestructible and rico, because of their redundant nature. However, I like these songs, but they are not his best songs. In my opinion his two best songs are apparitions and suburbia, but of course its all subjective. If you've never heard matthew good's songs before, in a coma is a great place to start. I would get the deluxe edition solely because of the accoustic reworkings. Anyways Cheers:D

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Matt Good, Mar 8 2006

This package containing both CDs and a DVD, the CDs contains songs spanning matt good's whole career, its nice to have them all together for the first time. Tho I'm not sure the selection will please everyone with songs such as camolina only included on the DVD. The DVD with the videos was particularly welcome as I hadn't seen the majority and they add something to the songs. Well worth every penny!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great ......... but not perfect, Dec 12 2005
This review is from: In a Coma (Deluxe Edition) (Audio CD)
Right off the bat, the 3 new tracks are worth the price of admission. "Oh Be Joyful" is just an incredible rocker - maybe his best balls-to-the-wall asskicker since "Generation X-Wing" !!

Having said that, my only beef with this collection is the lack of any tracks from "Audio of Being". I've seen him live 3 times, and he's played a grand total of one song from this album, one time. For some reason, Mr. Good seems to have a hate-on for what is possibly his best album.

Inevitably, most people are going to quibble about the track selection for any "greatest hits" package, but to ignore an entire album is a tad 'weird', to say the least. (But then, noone ever accused Matt of being stable.) Therefore, only 4 stars out of 5. Otherwise, the selection of tracks should please most folks.

The second CD includes some strange acoustic versions of other tracks, and although a bit jarring on first listen, I found that they grew on me quite a bit after a few listens. (Some of the selections are from "Audio of Being" - yay !)

I'd like to see a live DVD like the Hip recently put out - but somehow I don't think that will ever happen. So as far as DVD's go, this is probably going to be it : a compilation of his videos. Still, they're enjoyable to watch as they're a lot more interesting than 99% of the dross one encounters on MuchMusic these days.

happiest day ever was buying this, listening to the CDs, watching the videos then going to work the next day and telling every customer at the store I work at to buy it.

i had a friend complain that she spent so much money on all his albums and special things only to have him put this out - but i'm happy!!!!! i can listen to all his songs on each separate cd as I please, then occasionally be lazy and have a lot of his best songs in one place. mmmmm

plus... having the videos is AMAZING! there were a couple i had never even seen before!!!!

any true matthew good fan needs this whole package!

(this review coming out this ditzy is proof enough of my excitement for this collection!)

5.0 out of 5 stars This is how it should be done, Oct 27 2005

Matt Good fails to dissapoint with his original take on a best of collection. Not only are the new songs a treat for his die hard fans, but the acoustic versions are, as a whole, incredible. The included rarities (low fi-B sides) as well as the videos, make this package unique as well as an incredible value at twice the price. Matt takes a lot of heat for his uncompromising political and social views (and now apparently, for things that may have happened in his personal life), but the man is a musical genius and should be applauded for making music that actually matters (and for his courage to use his gift to affect positive change).

Matt decided to take a break from recording an album, and gave us this gem of a greatest hits cd, along with 2 new songs, and a b-side.
There is nothing wrong with the first cd, although he failed to add anything from "Audio of Being." You can find some of those songs done acoustically on the second disc, which was divided into three parts: "Rooms", "Loser Anthems", and "Lo-fi B-sides", the latter two were previously available as limited edition discs. Although we have heard "Born To Kill" on "Beautiful Midnight", this original version doesn't disappoint, and is almost superior to the version heard on "Midnight".
"Rooms" includes nine songs re-recorded as acoustic songs. I give Matt credit for including such songs as "Advertising On Police Cars", "Tripoli", and "Truffle Pigs." There are some songs I wish weren't done acoustically, such as "Hello Time Bomb", "North American for Life", and "Generation X-Wing." These songs are better hard and heavy.
The DVD has every Matt Good video ever made, and also includes a bonus animated video for "Whle We Were Hunting Rabbits." My faves would have to be the two songs excluded from the hits cd: "Carmelina" with the classic bad joke by Rich and discussion about the lyrics to Destiny Child's "Bootylicious", and the gnome-stealing video for "Antipop" featuring Dale Earndhart travelling around America with Matt and their new gnome buddy.
Get this three-discer while you still can, people!

5.0 out of 5 stars regardless of the new things on in the deluxe edition, Sep 29 2005

It's only $23 and you get the best of from all the other cds (of which I only have a few). Music videos are great for parties (like the amazon review states the songs are both peppy and there are some slower ones), and the music videos for those would be cool to project onto the bottom floor wall of my house and throw a kegger.

So I haven't gone out to get it yet, but I know from the songs that are on it, the price, the videos... already it's worth it. And I really want to hear the new stuff too. (Oh Be Joyful was on his website and it kicks.)
