5.0 out of 5 stars R30 delivers where Rush in Rio missed out.
Hardcore Rush fan here!

So many Rush fans including myself complained about the poor sound and film editing of the Rush in Rio DVD.
Well no need to worry about R30! The sound, film editing and photography is excellent and top of the line!

No more stupid close up shots of Alex's picking hand while he is soloing. You actually see the expressions on his face while...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Rush in Rio
Some complained that Rush in Rio had bad sound. I would agree that the separate CD release was horrible, but for whatever reason, the DVD was quite good.

As for this DVD, while the sound and video was excellent, they chopped off about 45 minutes of the show from the DVD. Unsure why. Most concerts on the tour had the same set list. While some of the tracks (that were...

You actually see the expressions on his face while he is feeling the climax of his solos in perfectly framed 3/4 body shots. The camera actually remains focused for 4 to 5 seconds for each shot instead of the ridiculous head spinning panning from camera to camera at a million miles an hour. You can actually watch and enjoy the boys playing their instruments.

I'm sure the boys in the band read the poor Rush in Rio reviews from the fans and you must give them credit for fixing all the complaints and delivering exactly what the fans were looking for.

I'll treasure this DVD forever and you can bet I'll be reaching for the R30 from my DVD collection far more often than the
Rush in Rio when I need my Rush fix.

Now let's pray for a new studio CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Audio/Video Quality of any Live RUSH Videos!!, Dec 26 2005

For anyone who was kind of disappointed by the sound quality of RIR, rest easy... This DVD is far superior to anything Rush has released on video. The sound quality as well as the overall mix is excellent and the video has a 'cinematic' look to it. Great direction and editing as well as interesting camera angles ( especially the ones behind Neil are great ). Recommended for Rush fans of all levels !!!

I'm late to the party only picking this dvd up now, 7 years after its original release date. I'm sure glad i did make the purchase! You feel the class in the way Rush tackles this dvd presentation. Great audio/visual thru out the concert. Geddy is in fine vocal form, Alex guitar playing shows passion in every note and Neil continues to perform his jaw dropping drumming! This dvd is a must have for all RUSH fans around the world. RUSH - R30 - dvd is excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars great concert/great rush dvd, Feb 1 2006

Rush, Great Canadian band, Great Music and Awesome Concerts over the years. Rush does justice to the older and newer material and their music still appeals to fans of various generations. The R30 concert is excellent in both sound and picture quality. It's unfortunate that the weather ruined what would have been a awesome concert in RIO but this concert more than makes up for it.
\Word is in Toronto that Rush are back in the studio and will be going out on tour hopefully by the time summer rolls around.
In closing this R30 DVD concert is a must have purchase and Rush fans will enjoy both disc one and two. OLDER fans will enjoy the memories and new fans will see what Rush was about in their early beginnings. It was nice to have grown up with Rush and are still around to give us music that appeals to both young and old. What more can one say.
A must buy and you won't regret this purchase.I also bought this concert for my brother who also enjoyed it and the memories it brought back from when we went to see Rush at the C.N.E. in Toronto in 1977.

I know I certainly enjoyed the show and so will you
Regards

5.0 out of 5 stars Dynamite Show from an incredible band, April 18 2011

This review is from: NEW R30 (DVD) (DVD)
Finally a concert DVD from a great band which captures their brilliance. I had seen some of Rush's earlier DVD releases and always enjoyed to see them live, but was left disappointed with the video quality. For example, the DVD recorded in Rio was a great show, but the video quality sub-standard and looked like it was recorded around the late eighties or early nineties.

Not the case with this one! Beautiful crisp video, well balanced lighting, and what a show!!! These guys are still playing with the passion and energy (and maybe even more) than I remember seeing them play with when I saw them way back on their Hemishperes tour (1978)!!! The show is totally on fire, opening with a medley of some of their earlier pieces and taking you through the years of many musical changes and styles.

Rush has a great sense of humour as you can see with their use of stage props and paraphernalia and even the video they show as a part of the concert. They really are enjoying themselves and you can feel it and see their connection with the fans. For any Rush fan, this is a "Must Have". For non-hardcore Rush fans, it is still a great disc to have. The songs are just so great and well performed.

Since I bought this, I also purchased "Snakes and Arrows Live", another high quality disc with some of their more recent material and different songs. Also a good disc, but the energy level on R30 is just through the roof. Run out and get R30, the 30th Anniversary tour and you will enjoy them over and over again!

A testament to a band who still show that creativity and musicianship only improve with age.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as Rush in Rio, Dec 1 2005

This review is from: Rush - R30 (Deluxe Edition) (2DVD) (DVD)
Some complained that Rush in Rio had bad sound. I would agree that the separate CD release was horrible, but for whatever reason, the DVD was quite good.

As for this DVD, while the sound and video was excellent, they chopped off about 45 minutes of the show from the DVD. Unsure why. Most concerts on the tour had the same set list. While some of the tracks (that were removed) were only so-so, they still should of been left as part of the DVD. There is plenty of room on DVD #1 as the concert goes just over 2 hours.

On DVD #2, you find 4 interviews plus an award induction from various eras which weren't bad. Additionally there were various videos (mostly in the 70s). Most of them are MTV-syled lipsynced videos (should of been on Chronicles), 2 low quality videos from the Don Kurshner Rock Concert from the 70s (they are roughly a quarter of the screen in size), Spirit of the Radio rehearsal (all 60 seconds of it), Freewill (with was on the "SARstock" DVD - why didn't they include the other tracks?) and Ed Robertson (of The Barenaked Ladies) and Mike Smith (Bubbles from The Trailer Park Boys) helping Rush out on Closer To The Heart from a Tsunami show in 2004.

Some may care for the lip-synced videos but not many. They're from the 70s - nothing special was done then. Boring.

The 2 guitar picks are a bonus - where are the drum sticks? :-)
