This review is from: Fell Out Of Oz (Audio CD)
Christa Couture has been compared to various fabulous ladies of folk/rock/pop, from Ani DiFranco and Tori Amos to Jewel and even Dar Williams. These are flattering references, and indeed the influence of these songstresses may be evident at times in Christa's debut album, Feel Out of Oz. But I think she's found her own voice (as it were!) with Oz and she stands as one to be noticed and considered as a serious contender in the female folk/rock genre. Simply put, her songs stick with me in the best way. Her quirky wit and charming phrasing are undeniably satisfying, coupled with a paradoxical delivery that strikes me to be equal parts consious and unconscious, she is both careful and abandoned with her vocals and her disclosures. With Feel Out of Oz, Christa takes me on a personable and personal journey through the small and large agonies of growing up and the simple joys and curiosities of being in the world. I reccommend this album without hesitation, it's juicy and great for repeat listening!
