5.0 out of 5 stars Honest, Soulful, True -- (Impressive)
I highly recommend this album.

Rex Goudie's debut album entered the National album charts at #5 for the number of CD's sold in his first week. That's quite an accomplishment for a debut album.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
I anticipated this release because I wanted to see if Rex could live up to the hype on his website. Unfortunately, for me, it didn't. I found most of the tracks similar in style to each other, and his vocals just don't live up to expectations. The low tones disappear, and the high ones seem screachy. If you are looking for a "keeper" it's not this one...

I highly recommend this album.

Rex Goudie's debut album entered the National album charts at #5 for the number of CD's sold in his first week. That's quite an accomplishment for a debut album.

I am not part of the teen demographic that has been mentioned so often. I'm a 30-something year old male fan and I believe Rex's album is incredibly well done. It's one of the few CD's that I play from start to finish and enjoy each track.

His target demographic is much larger and further reaching than most of the media have been reporting.

The performances are touching and Goudie emotes very well, especially in "Call Your Name", "Strong Enough", "Who I Am", and "Stay". The tracks "Run" and "Drive" seem to be produced quite well for radio airplay.

The lyrics are another strong factor. Goudie co-wrote four of the tracks (5,6,8,12). It's evident when you hear him sing, that he connects with the lyrics, and you feel what he is conveying.

His sound, style, and voice are distinguishable and unique. When you hear him on the radio, you instantly know it's Rex, and, that is a *very good thing*. It's refreshing to have this artist in today's flooded music market.

From his raspy rocker style tunes to his slower laid back tunes, there's something for everyone. Rex stays true to himself and this album is good representation of what's very important to him.

This is just the beginning for Rex and I look forward to more of his sold-out concerts and his next CD.

Go on ... buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good., Feb 2 2006

I was overall really impressed with this cd. When I heard 30 second clips of each song, I didn't really get my hopes up, but after listening to the whole cd, I found myself loving almost all of the songs. The best ones have to be strong enough, call your name, drive and break the silence. 3 of those 4 I mentioned were written by Rex. There were a couple songs that took me a little while to warm up to- You alone, write it in lighting, and one true summer night, but now I find myself singing along to these as well. Overall- good cd, would recommend it to anyone who likes pop-rock, soft rock, or even country.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWSOME CD, Dec 18 2005
By
This review is from: Under The Lights (Audio CD)
I am a male of 23 years old, and while many people assumed Rex only had teenage girl fans, they were dead wrong. I had a chance to attend Rex cd release and I was in awe of how much he has improved from on Canadian Idol. In the meantime I believe he was an awsome performer and singer on there as well. From the first song on his cd to the last I was blown away. Each and every individual song was put together so well and the fact that he co-wrote 4 of the songs on the cd says alot about him. Many artists do eventually write theyre own music at some point, but it takes them a long time and the fact that Rex did this on his first cd is amazing. His song stay sends such shivers through by body and you can sense the emotion in the lyrics of the song, his debut single run is pure and real, honestly the cd is a must buy and I would reccomend it to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected (but in a good way), May 5 2006
By
This review is from: Under The Lights (Audio CD)
I called a friend of mine in Ontario to listen to the show each week so i never really knew what Rex looked like but i wasn't really a fan of him cause to me he sounded too much like Jason Greely from Season 2 who i was a pretty big fan of. But the same Ontario fan recently let me hear clips from his and Mellissa's albums and i am now a HUGE fan of them both and can't wait to get my hands on thier albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!, Feb 18 2006

Of course I did not get a chance to watch Canadian Idol here in the US,but my sister sent me some clips of Rex singing before the finale...oh my nerves! Any man that can pull off 'Feelin' Good' was worth his weight in gold....or platinum! So,like the true Newfoundlander I am,I ordered the CD...very good from start to finish. So refreshing to hear a 'true' Canadian artist...now,if we could just get him some airplay on the US side of the border.Looking forward to his next CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rex rocks after all!, Jan 2 2006
By
This review is from: Under The Lights (Audio CD)
I'm not much of an Idol fan, so I didn't expect to even listen to this CD, but my girlfriend bought it and made me listen to it yesterday. I must say I was pretty impressed--this guy can rock it out with the best of them! My favs would have to be Write It In Lightning and Who I Am, both tracks you can pump up full blast while shooting across the highway, though there are several others that could easily make #1 hits. The slower songs probably have the girls swooning, and they didn't make me sick like many other sappy tunes. I quite liked Stay, which has a haunting tone to it, and One True Summer Night, which is reminiscent of every guy's favourite times. Remember the name of Rex Goudie because I predict you will be hearing great things from him for a long time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD!, Dec 28 2005
By
This review is from: Under The Lights (Audio CD)
I always expected that Rex had more potential than was shown on Canadian Idol, but his first CD has far surpassed my expectations. No doubt the girls will love his raspy, seductive voice, but the rocker in him will gain him a larger male fan base as well. The ballads are soulful and tender, to be sure, but I'm partial to the more rocked-out tunes like Write It In Lightning, Call Your Name and Break The Silence. With co-writing credits on four of the tracks, Rex has shown that he is a versatile talent with a long career ahead of him. For a guy with virtually no musical experience prior to this, this is an outstanding breakthrough debut and I would highly recommend you add it to your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rex is The Rock of The Rock!!!, Jan 24 2006
By

Not only do I love his debut single Run before the album was released but when I recieved the album for Christmas I was even happier that Sony/BMG didn't let him walk and make the same mistake they had made in past Idols. They surely have found talent in Rex and by god I am proud to say that he is a fellow Newfoundlander like myslef and I love seeing anyone from the Rock make it big. And I know the rock of the rock is well usually OZFM but well Rex is something that surely comes just as close. In my opinion if you love Canadian music and support it like I do this album is a definate must for your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Rising Star, Jan 24 2006
By
This review is from: Under The Lights (Audio CD)
I think REX GOUDIE is Canada's newest rising star and someone to look out for worldwide in the very near future. That's apparent in his recently released CD, UNDER THE LIGHTS, which I just can't seem to get enough of, awesome. His voice, his charm, his looks and his talent will help take him to the top. I'm sure he appeals to the young and 'old' alike. I'm looking forward to Rex's next release and many more to come.

This CD gets better and better each time I listen to it. The songs are well written and the tunes diverse. It is a permanent fixture in my cd player - in the car, at work and at home. Even my 5-year-old daughter can sing along!
