5.0 out of 5 stars The Return of Babylon 5 and G'Kar!
This movie was great, no matter what people say.

It's good for these reasons:

1-G'Kar plays a mentor role to our young captain

2-Our young captain is an intriguing and dynamic character to watch

3-There's a Narn engineer!

4-The story of the Rangers needs to be told and known more fully in the Babylon 5 Universe and...

3.0 out of 5 stars better visually than I expected
the Babylon 5 series has always been a little corny but in a good way once you get used to it.

visually the movie is far better than the original B5 and that's all good, I wish the actors trained more in hand to hand for the sake of looking professional during fights but that's quite a bit to ask of any movie let alone one done on a tight budget.

the Babylon 5 series has always been a little corny but in a good way once you get used to it.

visually the movie is far better than the original B5 and that's all good, I wish the actors trained more in hand to hand for the sake of looking professional during fights but that's quite a bit to ask of any movie let alone one done on a tight budget.

the only real problems with Legend of the Rangers was the Virtual holo tank that was for targeting enemy ships in battle and the cheeks of the spy which were just plain silly... he looked pretty neat save for the weird stuff poking out of his cheeks...... as for the holo tank it was literally the absolute worst idea ever conceived in every way, they must have known it was brutal and ran out of money leaving them with no way to get rid of or fix it.

just plain a really bad idea, if you watch it you'll know what I mean.... almost ruined the whole movie it was so bad.

overall I give the movie a 5 out of 10 and a 7.5 out of 10 genre rating... for a B5 movie it was ok, script needed work and the holo tank really needed to be scrapped and done in a more conventional way but aside from that it wasn't too bad which for B5 is ok.

I'll watch it a few times more in the future to be sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars Virtual reality weapons????, Sept. 16 2011

As a Babylon Five Fan, I found this movie lacking in depth and intrigue. It certainly had a lot of action, if that is what you are looking for. However most of the characters lacked maturity with the Exception of G'Kar. What really was the most ridiculous part of the movie was ( I can't even begin to describe ) the weapons systems of the ship, where an angry women "floats" in a virtual space simulation and punches and kicks (for want of a better description) at other enemy ships/targets, screams, yells and generally gets herself worked up into a sweat, as the ships computer interprets here actions as targeting and shooting at the enemy.... You really have to see it to know. Have fun...

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid but with flaws., Jan. 5 2010

I definately enjoyed the movie, but there were certainly aspects which cost it a couple of stars. There were a couple of actors that were weaker than the rest of the cast and the VR battles especially the one where the minefield was destroyed was very cheesey. Seeing Andreas Katsulas as G'Kar one last time was great though, if you need to complete your collection of the B5 universe, or like the series and have some money to spend then I recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Return of Babylon 5 and G'Kar!, May 30 2007

4-The story of the Rangers needs to be told and known more fully in the Babylon 5 Universe and this movie accomplishes this.

5-It's incredibly action packed!!!

Yes, the special effects are not so great (the budget must have been much lower than that of Crusade or even some of the other Babylon 5 Movies);

Yet the story and the characters and the Universe is compelling.

This movie deserves to be seen by all Babylon 5 fans

It wasn't as good as the original Babylon 5 series. It lacked some graphics, especially also during the star ship fight scenes, It really lacking in the graphics. IF you're really into Babylon 5, then you might enjoy this. Not recommended for everyone.

Strasinsky has made us accustom to great plays and deep plots with both babylon v and crusade, but legend of the rangers fails poorly to that standard. The inventivity he tried to introduced in crusade, got a notch higher in here to the point where grotesque and unbelievable meet. I must admit though that i was please to see Andreas Katsulas or a last time...

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice off-shoot of B-5 from the Rangers perspective, April 26 2008

This review is from: Babylon 5: The Legend of the Rangers (DVD)
This is nice off-shoot of the Babylon 5 universe by its' creator Michael Straczynski, from the Rangers perspective.
The story centres around the exploits of one Capt.David Martel. While the captain of the Enfali his ship and another get jumped by ships piloted by a new and deadly unknown race and similar in style and stealth to the Shadow vessels, familar to all B-5 fans. The other ship is destroyed and his ship is left crippled beyond any effective type of counter measures. He decides to limp home to fight another day.
The Grey council is convened as they think his "running" is counter to one of the codes of Ranger conduct..."We live for the one,we die for the one".During his trial and just as his guilty sentence is to be pronounced,in steps G'Kar who is also on Mimbar. He changes the councils' decision who return Martel his captaincy and give him a 20 year old ship the Leandra.
His 2nd in command is Dulan a Mimbari with telepathic abilities.During an escort mission Dulan is contacted by the previous crew of the Leandra who are in a state of unrest.During that same mission, another one of escort duty, they again get jumped by the same unknown race who manage to destroy the ship Martel is escorting, but not before the ambassadorial cargo escapes to the Leandra.G'Kar is among the menagerie and he explains to the captain that they were going to a nearby worlds' archeological dig site to view what had been uncovered: ancient buildings and a city billions of years old once populated by a race who drove out another evil one.
During their voyage back they are dogged by two of the remaining unknown vessels. It is also brought to light that there is a saboteur amongst the ambassadors, the same thing, they learn, that also doomed the previous crew.
He is found out and Martel learns that the unknown ships are from a race that is loyal to The Hand,an ancient evil that was there even before the Shadows.Through some ingenuity Martel gets he,his crew and the ambassadors back to safety.
The story ends with Martel taking G'kar back "home".Martel says that he has never been there but has heard alot about it and would like to visit sometime. Some of G'Kars' parting words are:"If you do come aboard remember,no one there is exactly as they seem".Sound familiar? A nice tie-in and a good note to end the show on.
The show is well acted but the dialogue and plot are sometimes a little sluggish which is a definite distraction. But the CGI is very well done throughout and one element in particular was a very nice touch. That was the armament section of the Leandra. The ships' guns are in the control of a person in a holographic/interactive environment. In this area you are in a no gravity scenario and able to move about in any position you need to as the entire space around the ship and targets in it are visible to you.The computer also reads your retina to determine position and the numbers of ships that need targeting.Through the actions of any one your bodys' limbs, you are able to direct fire onto that target.
An ingenious idea.
"Legends of the Rangers" is another nice touch by Mr.Straczynski to add to the B-5 universe in all its' diversity. And again, like Crusade,it showed alot of potential but unlike Crusade it never got beyond the movie stage. However it is a definite must have for all fans of the Babylon 5 series.
