I only sporadically watched (one of) the original versions of Dr Who in the 70s on TVO here in Ontario when I was still in primary school. I didn't care for it.

This latest version, however, exceeds all previous instalments of the series. The lead actors are great (although Billie Piper as 'Rose' can be a little to 'earnest' in her acting) and the effects and storylines take on a whole different level, keeping up with to-day's sensibilities.

To think it's a UK/Canadian production! Of course Canada is never mentioned in any of the storylines where as the US is all over the place (trying of course to potentially appeal to a lucrative US market).

$87.49 (plus tax), however, seems a bit pricey (expect it to be even more expensive in stores); there are only 13 episodes and this is a domestic release.

Regardless, the show is great and if you're a fan of Dr Who you wont be disappointed. Non-fans who are curious may wish to rent it when it becomes available, or buy it if they can find it for a considerably cheaper price.

I had never watched any of the previous Doctor Who series but decided to give this one a look just for the heck of it.I'm really glad that I did because this was one of the best shows I had ever seen before.Both Eccleston and Piper are great in their roles of The Doctor and Rose.I just wish Ecclston has stayed on as the Doctor but after seeing the Christmas Invasion,David Tennant is more then a worthy replacement.I can't wait to get this set and watch all the episodes again.

but WILL NEVER purchase it at this price...

In this day and age of 22 episode seasons going for around 50-60 dollars, the thought of paying 50% more for roughly 50% less episodes is ridiculous.

Drop the price, I'll pick it up...if there's any reason to boycott this, it's the price!

I'm a little young to have watched the original series, but this new series is one of the greatest shows I've seen in a long time. It combines great comedy and touching drama with all the crazy sci-fi special affects. It's got a lot more layers than many things that have some out of the US. I've become fairly obsessed with the show, as has everyone I've gotten hooked, and so I've been looking forward to it coming out on DVD. I'm surprised it took so long for it to be released considering how long it has been available on DVD in the UK. I'm also surprised it contains a trailer for the christmas invasion (which made sense when it was released in the UK, since that episode hadn't aired yet, but since it will have aried months before the release of this DVD, it seems a little late) I would have MUCH prefered if they had included the full christmas special, especially for this price. Incidently, the BBC website says that this DVD is being releases on Feb. 14th, so why is it only available as of March on Amazon? Anyways, this is a fantastic show, and HIGHLY recommended.

I chose this rating because I still haven't received it yet! it was promised no later than Dec. 31 and I'm still waiting!

I was impatient enough the I got my copy of the box set from the UK back in November. The set is excellant. Yeah it's a lot of money for 13 episodes but it's 13 of the best episodes of TV I've seen in a long time.

The extras are really great. Usually I don't bother with the commercials on DVD's as extras but theres one comercial on the first disc as an extra, that would sell anyone on the show and seeing it for the first time after seeing the whole series already just energized me. There's a a lot of other little features and then the disc full of the cut down versions on the 'Confidentials' they aired in the UK (They're not full versions due to music rights issues I believe).

Christopher Eccelston was amazing as The Doctor and I was very sad to see him go, but I'm glad that Billie Piper is still onboard as Rose and that David Tennant looks to be an amazing Doctor in his own right.

That's really unfair! I just don't know why they don't put the French language on this DVD. I am a Canadian girl from Québec and as you may know, Quebec is speaking French.

That's strange because I saw this serie in French on the channel ZTélé (26). I know that's probably not your fault, Amazon, but that's unfair for the Québec to not see her favorite show on DVD with the French language on it!

Pourquoi n'on-il pas mit la version francais? Pourtant il joue en fraicais su Z télé au québec??
