5.0 out of 5 stars Must see for Wilder fans
I think this film is incredibly funny and most Wilder fans will likely enjoy it. I'd cautiously recommend it to non-Wilder fans too with the caveat that this is one of those comedies that may appeal to more offbeat tastes. The disc is double sided with the widescreen version on one side and the full screen version on the other. There are some nice extras inclkuded: a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Wilder and Brooks triumphant again!
After their great success with Frankenstein Jr. Wilder and Brooks teamed up again to take on another iconic figure in the form of Sherlock Holmes by giving him a younger envious brother who takes on a case from Holmes to cause a distraction while Holmes lurks around in disguise to really solve the case. A similar idea was used to lesser effect in the Steve Martin Pink...

There are some nice extras inclkuded: a commentary track by Gene Wilder, trailers for this film, Silver Streak, Young Frankenstein, and World's Greatest Lover. The film is in English mono and stereo, French mono and Spanish mono with both English and Spanish subtitles.

I remember the first time I saw this movie many years ago, also loved it. I enjoyed the subtle humour. Maybe not for everyone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wilder and Brooks triumphant again!, March 14 2006

This review is from: The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother [Import] (DVD)
A similar idea was used to lesser effect in the Steve Martin Pink Panther movie.
Marty Feldman is in top bug-eyed form here and Madeline Khan is great as a hooker with a heart of gold. Are there any other kinds?
Actor Leo McKern chews the scenery are Moriarty. Dom Deluise best known for The Cannonball Run does a turn as an evil Italian while Douglas Wilmer who played Sherlock Holmes on BBC TV in the 60's plays Holmes.
Similar type Holmes movies are Without A Clue and the Dudley Moore/Peter Cook version of The Hound of the Baskervilles and the Matt Frewer movies made for CTV.
