3.0 out of 5 stars quite good
This movie is enjoyable. A bit slow in certain places but at least it has an admirable storyline with faith and values at it's core.

This is one of Gregory Peck's Performance. The Story is Superb.

Gregory Peck's star-making turn as Father Francis Chisom in John M. Stahl's The Keys of the Kingdom earned him a Best Actor nod and established his screen persona as a ruggedly decent, dignified underdog.

Based on the one time best-selling novel by A. J. Cronin, the film looks back on a life of heroic priestly service unmarked by outward success, worldly recognition or ecclesiastical honor. At the same time, the story celebrates its hero as an idiosyncratic priest whose lifelong best friend (Thomas Mitchell) was a confirmed atheist, and who held odd, even problematic views on religion.
