Whoa Nelly!!,

This review is from: Loose (1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
Loose is an amazing album in my opinion. I think its probably one of my favourite albums of the year.Every song on it is good. I think my least favourite is Maneater which is still a pretty good song. Best tracks - Afraid, Do It, Showtime, In Gods Hands, All Good Things Come to An End. Te Busque is also really good. The chorus is in Portugese but the song is still amazing.

[3.5]--"Loose" is a melting pot of tunes,

I didn't know what to expect from this album. I heard a few of Nelly's songs in the past and of course the hit, "Promiscuous." After hearing this album I grew fond of some sounds that were incorporated into this album. Nelly obviously has a genuine love for music of all kinds, some of the varied styles she attempts contrives of hip-hop, 80's retro, and electro-soul just to name a few. Timbaland as a collaborator, and she lets him shine for the first half of the record, as they get the party pumping. Then on the second half of the record, Nelly shows us her vintage side."Afraid," "Maneater (particularly)," and "Promiscuous," are great. These tracks boast Furtado's conversion by giving us some catchy, up tempo, infectious dance floor beats. "Do It" sounds like Madonna's Burning Up, and there are some '80s-like sounds within the album. "No Hay Igual," is good she blends reggaeton and M.I.A. into this track. Latin pop ballad "Te Busque," is really nice I also like the Spanish version to it. "Showtime" and "All Things (Come To An End) are all great as well. If I had one complaint about this album is that the beat is so strong on some tracks that they overpower her vocals, but she makes up for it on the slower tracks. `Loose' is the kind of album which is set to widen Nelly's fan base and introduce people to the rest of her work. The album is worth checking out, it's wicked.

The "Loose" Side of Nelly,
By Damon (Winnipeg) - See all my reviews

I must confess, I was worried when I first heard "Promiscuous" late in 2005 when it was first leaked. Although I thought the song was a great modern hip-hop/r&b single, where was the Nelly Furtado that I have grown to love over the past 5 years?Fortunately, she's still here. One listen to the album, and her multi-cultural influences, spicy vocals, and reflective themes are still present. She's simply taken her sound to a new level and experimented with a new genre, while still trying to incorporate that unique quality and sound that made her big in the first place. The album may not sound like her 2000 debut "Whoa, Nelly!" or her absolutely amazing sophomore release "Folklore," but her personality remains on this new disc "Loose." The first 6 songs on the disc will easily please the "new" Nelly fans who love the new singles "Promiscuous" and "Maneater" (the Europe single), while the latter half of the album will more please the older Nelly fans. This effort not only showcases Nelly's unique style, but allows her to cross-over into a more mainstream sound at the same time. Highlights from the album include: "Afraid" - This is an incredibly catchy song about speaking out and being unafraid of what your peers think about you. "Maneater" - This song is pure fun! Nelly fuses her lower vocals to introduce this sensual, fun song. "Promiscuous" - The lead single is definitely an album highlight. Although it's the song that represents the most change from Nelly's previous records, it's fun when listeners don't take it too seriously. "No Hay Igual" - Who would have thought a spanish club song would be so much fun to listen to? Well, it is! "Te Besque" - Incorporating Nelly's spanish and english vocals, this duet with Juanes is a definite favourite on the album. "Say It Right" - Best song on the album! Absolutely brilliant! It's so simple, but will keep your attention the whole way through. "In God's Hands" - This is a song about a love that's dying and ending. Although heartbreaking, it adds an element of "good" to the end of a relationship. "All Good Things (Come To An End)" - This was written with Coldplay's lead singer Chris Martin and is without a doubt one of Nelly's best songs. This album carries a wide variety of Nelly Furtado's sounds, vocals, lyrics, and styles. The variety of music on "Loose" is what makes it a winner and the best hip-hop/r&b/pop album in a long, long time! Let's hope Nelly continues to make powerful music in the future, whether it's in this genre or another.

This CD is awesome! I wasn't a huge Nelly fan before even though I bought Folklore. I bought this CD last week for the heck of it. I have already listened to it 20 times. It's 100% better than Folklore. It puts me in a great mood everytime I play it.Good for Nelly for changing it up!

It's not Hip Hop!,
By
This review is from: Loose (1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
Yes, Promiscuous is defininitely hiphop and the first song on the album has a small rap within it, but otherwise all of the songs are either 80s pop/electronica inspired or latin inspired with the addition of really good beats from Timbaland- beats alone does not turn a song into "hip hop". The album is an overall nicely done amalgamation of different styles. I love 4 of the 13 songs (which is a lot by today's standards), the rest are listenable in a car. My synopsis: great for a party- not classic by any means though. But then, is much music today classic anyhow? Still, fun listen, great for workouts and when I can undertand what she is singing, the songs generally have a positive message.

Nelly has done it again,

Nelly has done it again. This time the music diva has thrown off her pop shackles and embraced a more "hip hop" sound that fans will truly enjoy. Some highlights off the album include Promiscuious and Do it, whose themes cut right to the core of club culture. That is, showing up to the bar at 2:00am to try and pick up. If you are an adolescent who enjoys hot girls who write lyrics like "Do it like you do it to me" or "She's a maneater" then go pick up this album. As for everyone else, we can all laugh at the irony of a new mother putting out a cd called lose with a hit song called promiscuous.

Nelly Furtado is so talented!!,

I love this CD. She did it again and I have to say that "In God's Hands" and "Maneater" are two of my favorite tracks. Honestly, her FOLKLORE CD was just a bit better than this one so if you don't have FOLKLORE, I would recommend you get that one too. Loose is super and I love the beats. Nelly is never disappointing. Thank you for bringing such talent to the world Nelly. You music certainly brightens my day.

Nelly Furtado - Loose,
By
This review is from: Loose (1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
I really like this album; it is fresh and has a great groove... I think it should be known that Nelly Furtado's true musical roots lie in hip hop; she is not "selling her soul to hip hop." This is another great album from another great Canadian artist.

Move over Gwen Stefani, here comes Nelly!,
By Laury B. "lauryb_77" (Canada) - See all my reviews

If there's one thing to know about Nelly Furtado, it's that she learns fast. After experiencing a huge flop with her sophomore effort Folklore, the singer/songwriter quickly turned around and made all the right moves : she sexied herself up, got one of the best producers out there and changed from ordinary folk-pop singer to full-fledged pop star. Sure, Loose is clearly a proof that Nelly wanted a piece of Gwen Stefani's pie, but as far as commercial gimmicks go, this is, so far, the best of the year. Promiscuous got me hooked right from the beginning, and the rest of the album is equally addictive, although the ballads are not as strong as the uptempo tracks. This is exactly what pop should be : inventive, fresh, sexy, and, most of all, fun. Unlike C.Mayer, I do not think that Nelly sold her soul. She simply understood what makes a good pop album; Whoa Nelly was nice, Folklore was way too self-indulgent, and Nelly is the first one to admit it. I heard her say in an interview that the styles found on Loose (namely hip-hop, '80s electronica, latin pop, reggaeton, etc.) are what she listened to as a teen, so Loose is simply a return to her roots. She doesn't sound like Britney or Jessica here; you can still feel a strong latin vibe on the record, and even though her style has changed drastically, you can hear that she hasn't denied her Portuguese roots.

This is an O.K. album, not sure I like the change in style, but have to say it is somewhat better than her last album!! I would have given 5 stars if you could rate how great she looks, gotta say wow in that department. This album has a lot of room for improvement, maybe by her next album she just might get it.....here's hoping
