Thought she couldn't get any worse... and SHE DID!,

I think I'm going to be using her c.d as a coaster because that's all it's worthy to become. This is the worst c.d to come out this year. Totally totally boring and yawnworthy. The sad thing is that "Damita Jo" was a better album, and that one was bad too! I wish I could give this album a zero. Give it up, Janet. You don't have the touch anymore. Leave it to the pros.

This album really signifies everything that she had done in the past,

After hearing this album for some time I realize that this album is not "Classic Janet" or "New Janet" or anything. It just a celebration of 20 year in the music business. It is what it is. People will probably be playing her previous albums such as 'Control,' 'Velvet Rope' and/or her other works just to celebrate her 20 years in the business. To be honest I really haven't heard the `Damita Jo' album but I'll probably go back and listen to that just for the connection to this album but as for now it is a mix of music styles from all her albums recollected.Although '20 Y.O.' only has 11 tracks, you won't find much filler here. Even the interlude are better this go around. Although it may not have a true break-out single, the album as a whole is pretty good. From the female anthem "Show Me" to the Escapish "Daybreak" to the rockish "This Body", there's something for everyone on this album. It's also nice that she got back with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis but you can't really tell that they're together until you flip to the last page of the booklet. The songs that stood out to me was of course was the chart-topping hit, "Call On Me" (with Nelly unfortunately), "So Excited" featuring Khia, "Love 2 Love," "Daybreak," "With U", "Get It Out Me", "Take Care", and "This Body". 20 Y.O. is fun and simply consistent. You can play this album from the beginning to the end and almost not skip a track including the interludes because each track flows perfectly well together.

JANET's back, y'all! And thankfully, this album is filled with catchy beats and may be her best yet. Most of the tunes do sound like the typical pop/hip-hop playing over the radio but something about them makes them rise above the rest. The music just makes you want to shake your booty. Indeed, from the first track So Excited right up to the last, this album is one long dance party! The way the tunes are arranged also earns this album brownie points. After gyrating to the first six tunes, the beat slows down to being just mere enjoyable and then finally, sexy. The last two tunes, Take Care and Love 2 Love, are slow and hot. You just have to listen to them to find out what I mean. Jackson also hasn't lost that playful nature but has decided to play it down a bit. Her bubbly 1993 hit, Whoops Now, seems to enjoy a second coming in the form of Daybreak. After more than 20 years in the music industry, Janet is still firing shots that deserve to be heard. This is good stuff!!!

*Celebrating Janet's 20 Years*,
This review is from: 20 Y.O. (Audio CD)
While some artists have come and gone, Janet Jackson has achieved a lot in her 20 years thus making a mark that her success and rise to the top have been truly smashing and grand! "20 Y.O." is a celebration of all that she has covered in her 20 years; It's about having fun, not being serious, and just feeling great! From start to finish the album has touches of class, details, and striking surprises! Not only did this album have the lyrics, beautiful disc artwork, and greetings to God, Jermaine Dupri [her man], and her adoring fans, but she had numerous photo covers done for the same album. Janet wanted to capture the different looks throughout her career. All the different photos were collected from major photographers. Amazon surprisingly sent me a striking album cover that was done by the contest winner designer Nicole Marie Clark! But aside the cover, the contents are what made this even more of an epitome of the ICONIC image she is! There are some excellent dance tracks that will create party vibes sure to make one dance, feel energized, or just feel positive and uplifted! While the album could have taken this dance route all the way and perhaps made a stronger mark to some, it was nonetheless fabulous to enjoy for its variation! Aside the dance tracks, there are slower jams carrying more mellow vibes creating vast emotions all positive and meaningful! The tempos have booming blends adding a more R&B touch! Her vocals are soft, sensual, and pleasant in sound. From my tastes, every song had something special to offer! Enjoy the varying styles and feel invigorated, energized, and in the mood to dance, relax, or get ready to unwind with that special someone!

Overall excellent album!!! This album is not a concept album, like J's other albums have been...unless the concept is keeping it light!! Even people who are not J fans will definitely like this album!! My favourites are Get It Out Me, Show Me, and With U!! Definitely worth it to purchase!! And any artist who can still keep fans so excited for such a long career is an outstanding acheivement!!!!!! Keep it coming, J!!!!!

Excellent Album, Worth the $$, September 26, 2006Reviewer: T. Allen (Toronto, ON) - See all my reviews I listened to the album online and thought at first it wasn't good. But after playing it in my car for one week I was amazed and I can't stop playing it. Although I had downloaded it online, I decided to go pick up the original copy to support Janet. She definitely laid it down on this album. Tracks like Sho Me, shows she is still up to date, this actually should have been her second single instead. With U reminds me of lets wait awhile and in my opinion is the best song on her album. I'm hoping this is her next video. Overall, this is a solid album, she has shown that at 40 you can still enjoy life. THe bonus tracks are excellent too, usually bonus tracks are boring and not worth being on the album but both her bonus tracks are good. The only downfall of the album is that due to Janets voice being so soft, you tend not to understand what she's saying and you have to either turn up the radio or just use common sense to understand the words. Otherwise it's a very solid album. 1. 20 (Intro) 2. So Excited - Janet Jackson, Khia - A- 3. Show Me A+ 4. Get It out Me A 5. Do It 2 Me A- 6. This Body A++ 7. 20 Part 2 (Interlude) 8. With U A+++ 9. Time to lose Control,
By Amanda Richards (Georgetown, Guyana) - See all my reviews (TOP 500 REVIEWER) (HALL OF FAME) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: 20 Y.O. (Audio CD)
This dream collaboration of Janet Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis marks the 20th Anniversary of the release of Janet's career-making album "Control". This strong dance album proves that even at age 40, Janet has the energy of a 20 year old, and judging from the cover art, she looks pretty fabulous too.The album starts off with a blast, thanks to the sample of Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" on the track "So Excited" (featuring Khia). This is the second single from the album, and demonstrates the type of entertainment that distinguishes the Jackson family from the wannabes. First single "Call On Me" is a mid-tempo track which happens to be a smokin' duet with Nelly, and there are many other possible singles to choose from. "Show Me" is a hot track, as well as "Get it Out Me" which samples Afrika Bambaataa. "Do it 2 Me" is also a sizzler. On the slower side, there's "With U", which seems to tell the rest of the story of "Let's Wait Awhile", but the excellent slow song of the album is "Enjoy" which is about appreciating your life one day at a time. There are a few tracks that didn't do it for me, these being "This Body", "Love 2 Love" and "Take Care", but this is probably more a matter of personal taste than a musical short-coming. The inclusion of the two Japanese bonus tracks "Roll Witchu" and "Days Go By" would have been a perfect way to end the album on a high note, but unfortunately they're not on this version. The dance tracks define this album, which marks a welcome return to form for Janet, Queen of the Dance. (Rated: 4.5 stars) Amanda Richards, September 26, 2006 |
