Now, I usually think that the critically failed Sonic games are decent. So I give each Sonic game a fair shot when I try it out. Now... I got this game, beat it and can honestly say that the reviews were actually right for once. This is one terrible game.

There are few fun moments, but they are quickly ruined by the terrible controls, atrocious loading, or just poor level design.

You play as Sonic, Silver and Shadow mainly. Sonic is of course runs extremely fast when you get going. He has homing attacks and a ring zoom move which is really awkward to pull off when you have to jump to the line of rings. Silver has telekinesis and can hover. His story is probably the easiest. Shadow is similar to Sonic, just slower and occasionally has vehicle gameplay.

His story is the most annoying and frustrating part. There are parts where there are boost pads which make you go so fast that you can barely control where you go, and they place Shadow on small cylinder platforms with tight turns, where if you try to go through you end up flying off and dying over and over. The best way is to just leap over the gap and dash instead of taking the boost ramp over the gap which then takes you to another speed pad that ends up killing you.

Some of Sonic's levels end in speed runs, where you go super fast and you end up hitting nearly everything because you cant' control where he's going because every move you make is huge. If they let you use the d-pad it would have been better, but nope.

Then there's the 'friends' gameplay. Which is flat our terrible. Tails flying is hard to control, Knuckles and Rouge get stuck on walls and their sections are tedious and annoying... The music is pretty good, 1 or 2 songs are awful though... graphics are okay.

When you beat the 3 stories you unlock the 'true end'. Which is annoying. You also unlock galleries. Video and music after beating stories. The story is rather stupid. Sonic and this human princess basically fall in love and it's just awkward in every way. Then it boils down to save the princess who always gets rescued then rekidnapped right after. Voice acting is awful.

Some problems I've had are; Falling through floors, falling through the water in a hover craft that's supposed to hover over the water, camera problems which cause cheap deaths, poor controls in general, horrible wall running that always lead to fall off because of the controls not being good, sound cutting out in cutscenes, horrible load times, slow downs in the HUB world...

How SEGA could ever release such a game is beyond me. It is truly one of the worst games I have ever played.

It is simply NOT fun.

My son loves the game, there are some glitches but overall he is happy with it, happy with this purchase
