Crap,

This review is from: Blade Runner: The Director's Cut (Widescreen) (DVD)
This version sucks. The original version is good and the new final cut even better as it has missing scenes included. I like the narration as it was in the original, I dont care what ridley scott or ford thought. I do like the original ending as well. I had to give it one star as I have to give it something. The price is waay to high as usual. Amazon chooses to rake canadians over the coals over the prices and not make the prices closer as our dollar is strong. I go to the U.S. site as even with the exchange it ends up cheaper. Nice, thats why I get most of my movies from columbia house, they dont shaft canadians as much. Anyways in ending buy another copy for a little more and you get all versions that way whichever version you like you have for sure and the others for show.

Original Version Please!,

As others here have said, why just the director's cut? Where is the original with the voice over? I like them both, but prefer the voice over version. Why hasn't the original with voice over come out on DVD? Why not put both versions on this one? For that reason alone this DVD gets 1 star. Which is sad, because this is definitely a 4 or 5 star movie.

One of the best sci-fi ever,

This review is from: Blade Runner: The Director's Cut (Widescreen) (DVD)
Blade runner is one of the best sci-fi movie. As said befor by many, the director's cut is a little better than the original, I have personally seen the three version, the original theatrical version, wich is very soft has been released only on VHS, the international version (with the naration of Harrison Ford) is a little harder with more goulish sequece (this version has been release on Laserdisc) and finaly the director's cut wich give more insight of the caracter of Deckar and the possibility that he may be a replicant himself without knowing it as Rachel. But hey wait good news who loved that movie. Warner will release december 18th 2007 a 5 discs box set and gess what all three version will be available and a new final cut of the movie will be also availaible plus some extra of course here's the link to get more informations at amazon.com [...]

i don't think i have see nthe director's cut of this movie.whatever version it was,i know i wasn't really impressed.the only thing i did like was the visual style.it was very nice to look at.other than that though,i can't say much stood out.i found the movie much too sublime for this type of movie.there's some action for sure, but it's all passive.that's not always a bad thing,if you have some compelling dialogue, which i didn't feel this one had.i also thought the screenplay could have been better.when you add this all together, you get a movie that moves too slow and doesn't really fully ecxplain itself.i won't say it's a bad movie, just disappointing, considering how people rave about it.my advice is to watch the original version and the director's cut and draw your own conclusions.by the way, apparently Ridley Scott is working on the definitive version(whatever that means) of the film which will be released sometime in 2008 in 2,4 and five disc incarnations.anyway for me,this edition of"Blade Runner" is a disappointing 2.5/5

Brilliant futuristic film,

This movie was voted the best sci-fi of all time recently in the UK. The evidence is in the details...the story is gripping, the cinematography superb, and the small details extraordinary, like when the blade runner takes a sip of vodka from the shot glass, and the trace of blood runs into the glass. Full of imagery...the nail through the hand, the dove finally released...the final act of altruism from the nexus...this is a movie that works on many levels. Casting Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer and the beautiful and underrated Sean Young was a stoke of inspiration. Add to this the soundtrack by Vangelis and you have a beauty! The director's cut leaves it up to the viewer to connect the dots. The theatre version dubbed a commentary to explain the action. Absolutely my favourit sci-fi movie in the age where many others have been superceded by the actual present day date!

Still Waiting,

It seems like half the people love the voiceovers, and half the people can't stand them. The solution is a multidisk-disk release. According to the Bladerunner site on wikipedia, a four-disk release is due out in 2007! It will have US Theatrical, European Theatrical, 1992 Director's Cut, and 2007 Director's Cut. That's what I'm waiting for. My VHS copy is getting pretty scratchy and VHS looks terrible on the HDTV anyway.-Rick

Great movie; DVD could use more 'extras'.,

Blade Runner is one of the most influencial Science Fiction movies ever made. Sci-Fi story telling and movie making have not been the same since; can you even imagine a 'future' unlike the one depicted in this movie? The DVD transfer is adequate(but should only be watched in widescreen format). The Directors Cut is the version to watch. Thank goodness the ridiculous narrative has been removed (a last minute add-on for it's theatrical release in '82). The added 'unicorn' dream sequence (although quick) fuels the debate over whether Deckard (Harrison Ford) is an replicant himself and pays slight homage to the original title of the book it is based on: "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep".The DVD however could use some more extras. A 'behind the scenes' section or a 'deleted scenes' section would've been nice; interviews with the cast would've been great. However, all it has is spanish/english options and a chapter index.

Not quite the Blade Runner I remember,

After purchasing and viewing the DVD director's cut release, all I can think is "where can I find the original theater release version". I sat my family down to watch it two nights ago and they lost interest very quickly. While it is still visually stunning to watch, it is not enough overcome the seeming lack of narrative/plot. In fact, one of the key things removed from the director's cut version is the voiceover narrative by Harrison Ford's character Deckard. For those that know the original version, it can even be a challenge to remember the significance of each scene. For new viewers of BR, they're left wondering, scene after scene, "OK what just happened and what relevance does it have to anything?". Bring back the voiceover!

The Director's Cut is AWFUL.,

Compared to the original version the Director's Cut is awful. Background narration has been removed; the ending has been changed. Don't waste your money.
