stands well on its own merit ,nearly as good as the original, Nov 3 2007
This review is from: The Omen (Widescreen) (DVD)
after finally seeing the Omen(2006 version)i have to say it is not as
bad as i had thought it would be.as the two leads, ambassador thorn and
his wife,Liev Schrieber and Julia Styles are cast well.however,i didn't
find the child cast as Damien very convincing.he is more annoying than
terrifying.Mia Farrow is brilliantly cast as the sinister nanny.Pete
Postlewaite does quite well as the anguished Father Brennan, and David
Thewlis is adequate as reporter Keith Jennings.now to the plot of the
film.the movie follows the plot of the 1976 original fairly closely
with a few minor changes.I that won't go into these differences here
these differences, but some of them almost are almost more effective
than the original.the movie does retain much of the original Jerry
Goldsmith music, which of course elevates its fright factor. as a stand
alone movie,it is at times very effective and quite well done.as a
remake i think it is nearly equal to the original. 4/5
