4.0 out of 5 stars Filed Under Wrong Section
This should be under (Platform) PC not Xbox 360.
It has no purpose for the Xbox 360.
You don't need it if you want to use 360 wireless controllers on the 360.
It's purpose is to allow you to use your 360 wireless controllers on your PC.

Most probably know all this already, but I'm sure some people don't so ... now they do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great even though not official product, Jan 4 2013
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver (Accessory)
Most of these reviews are pointing out the fake product and non working driver issue and giving the product 1 star. Although the product is not officially Microsoft I would like to point out that it has worked for me for a long time and is still going strong and this is the reason why i give this product 5 stars. The driver can be downloaded from the site below and all that is needed is a little computer knowledge and I'm sure that if you know what you are buying you would know a bit about computers and how to fix certain issues.

Like buying a cheap car it may not look fancy but if it works well there should be no complaining.

3.0 out of 5 stars Shoddy, but useful, Jun 13 2012

This is the 2nd one of these i've had to buy. The first one finally bit the dust when it got stepped on while moving.

If you ever have one of these go dead on you, open the casing up and look for a component labelled F1, there's a very good chance that this fuse has burnt out as opposed to a broken wire somewhere in the usb line (wish i had known that before splicing a new usb line on my old one). You can bypass the fuse by bridging the 2 leads with a paperclip or piece of old wire (i used a pin i had broken in half, and secured it with bluetack).

Aside from that, modern games almost always have gamepad support, so get the best of both worlds; the comfort and control (i use the term lightly) of a console controller, and the high end graphics of of pc gaming.

I bought this product and I am plesantly supprised. It was originally suppost to be white but when i got it it was actually black, It took a week to ship from the usa which i am not supprised at but pleased at. I find it to be a good solid product so far and for the people saying the drives are hard to install, just go to the microsoft website and download the drives there, I was originally using a wired controller and they are the same drives it works the same just use those and you will be up and running fast.

Out of the box, the you will see:

-The product is NOT AN OFFICIAL MICROSOFT DEVICE
-The product may not appear as advertised
-The product may be (Likely is) refurbished

As an aside, the installation instructions may be to obscure for non-seasoned users, you will likely encounter installation errors that can be tricky to fix.

Final thoughts:
-Will try to buy Official Microsoft products next time
-Disappointed by the generic USB Male end put on from another device (likely pointing to refurbished)
-Disappointed by the installation process
-Product Rating 5/10
-Merchant Rating 3/10

The Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver works fine if you can get it to work. After plugging it in and trying several times to get the controller to connect to it, I was ready to conclude that it was either defective or there were some wireless interference issues.

After searching through many forums, it turns out that the gaming receiver sucks up a lot of power and your motherboard may not be able to handle it if it has a lot of other USB devices plugged in. I started up my PC with no USB devices plugged in, plugged in the gaming adapter and the controller connected. I plugged in my other devices one by one and it turned out the gaming adapter would no longer work if my LED backlit USB keyboard was plugged in (another power-hogger).

The solution I found online was to plug it into an externally powered USB hub (has its own power adapter). So a monitor with USB inputs would work fine. Unfortunately I didn't have one so I had to buy a hub. Works fine now, but beware since buying this might incur an extra cost just to get it to work.

3.0 out of 5 stars A servicable knock-off, Sep 26 2011
Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver (Accessory)
I purchased this receiver thinking it was the official receiver made by Microsoft. Once I received the actual item, it became apparent that it was not. The main thing to look out for is the lack of the "Microsoft" logo on the item itself and the packaging. If you intend to buy the official receiver, make sure "Microsoft" is clearly displayed on the front.

In addition, the item comes with no user instructions and a driver disc that doesn't work under Windows 7. It certainly doesn't work out of the box as an official Microsoft product would, and requires you to manually set the driver, which takes some tech knowledge.

Other than that, once you do get it working it doesn't seem to have any major issues. All the inputs register fine and it has a reasonable range. Just make sure you're fine with buying a knockoff rather than the official product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not MS certified Product!, Mar 28 2012
Fun:1.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver (Accessory)
This is NOT the REAL Microsoft Wireless Receiver. It is a copy, it can work but know that this ain't the real deal!! The sticker under is fake (says XBHD instead of Microsoft Xbox360), there was no packaging/plastic case, no manual, just the receiver and a midi-cd with drivers from an UNKNOWN Publisher, and they don't even work in Windows 7. I managed to make it work ready the other reviews using the real MS Drivers and some work in the control pannel. Thanks for the reviewer that give help on how to use this CRAPPY COPY!

1.0 out of 5 stars piece of crap, May 6 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver (Accessory)
Picture is extremely misleading. This is not a Microsoft product, this is a 3rd party version. Doesn't hold the connection with the controller and disconnects making it impossible to play games. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
