5.0 out of 5 stars great
This dvd was great and enjoyed getting it but it did take a little long to get it. This is the only way to get older movies now.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as bad as you might think
This is a fairly enjoyable enactment of Hannibal Lecter's early days growing up in the throes of world war 2. We learn how he becomes a cannibal, why he became a doctor and the reasons for his insanity. The film is entertaining and we actually pull for Lecter to gain revenge over the war criminals who ate his sister alive. His asian love interest, played by the...

this movie is much better than i had expected or hoped.it basically
tells the story of young Hannibal Lector and how he became the monster
we all know and love(or not)today.the movie is a bit bleak at times, but
not enough to stop watching.i thought the actor who portrayed
Hannibal(Gaspard Ulliel)in his teen years and beyond,did a fantastic
job.he was very sinister and exuded evil.his performance was very
chilling,to say the least.i'm glad they chose an actor relatively
unknown to most North American audiences.it gave the actor a chance to
make the character his own.there is a real air of mystery to the
movie.i also liked the fact that Hannibal is portrayed in a sympathetic
light.he isn't really the villain in the piece.but make no mistake,he
is evil.i really liked the air of the movie.i also thought it was very
stylish.i liked the colours in the movie.i think it is certainly better
than "Silence of the Lambs"and i think i even liked it better than
"Hannibal" and even "Red Dragon".i guess I'm saying "Hannibal Rising"
is the best of the franchise so far.for
me,"Hannibal Rising" is a definite 4.5/5

This is a fairly enjoyable enactment of Hannibal Lecter's early days growing up in the throes of world war 2. We learn how he becomes a cannibal, why he became a doctor and the reasons for his insanity. The film is entertaining and we actually pull for Lecter to gain revenge over the war criminals who ate his sister alive. His asian love interest, played by the beautiful Gong Li, is heartstopping and one of the major reasons to watch this movie. I would say that this is a necessary entry in the series, and a good profiling of Hannibal Lecter's early days. The major downside is the performance of the lead who plays Hannibal Lecter, an otherwise unknown actor who delivers an awful performance. if you can get over that, you should enjoy this film.
