I wanted an economical solution to revive my Dell desktop when the internal drive had died after a severe power surge. This device has same capacity as the former drive and all I had to do was install it inside the drive bay using a simple 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket and cable. After that, I re-installed the OS and my data from a previous backup and I was good to go. Not simple - but a cost-effective and reliable way to keep this PC in service.

I ordered two of these along with a couple of Rocketfish USB PATA enclosures thinking that I'd use them as portable memory packs, something I've never tried doing before. It wasn't very re-assuring to see the labels on the HD packaging identifying the contents as "SATA" HDs. "Ah well, improper labelling" right ? Unfortunately, when it came to installing the HDDs into the tray of the enclosure, the male pins on the HDD didn't align with the pin slots of the connector of the enclosure. In order to have them align it appears that I'd have to significantly distort the body of the enclosure. At that point I wondered if there might be different types of PATA connectors and considered that the Scorpio HDDs and Rocketfish enclosures might simply be mis-matched PATA connector types. And that's where I'm stuck at the moment so I cannot comment on the functionality of the Scorpio HDDs.

Old but good,

This hard drive is a little small but great for cheap external storage or replacement for an old laptop. I've bought two of those and they both work well in a usb2 enclosure.

In search results and through the buying process this drive is listed as a 1TB SATA (WD10JPVT) drive. When it showed up, there was also a sticker on the static bag saying it contained the 1TB drive I had ordered. However, the drive I received is clearly an 80GB (WD800BEVE) drive. Now that I'm through the process to return it/review it, Amazon also seems to have decided it was in fact an 80GB PATA drive I ordered after all, even though it's listed in my receipt, and paid for, as though it was the 1TB drive. Clearly something is screwed up somewhere in their system; either that or there is malicious intent and it's some version of a bait and switch. Order this drive at you own risk- you may end up waiting for it to show up only to go through the inconvenience and further delay of sending it back...

This must be some kind of joke. Seriously, why would anyone stick on a 1 TB sticker on a clearly labeled 80 GB hard drive and STILL ship it. Mix up or not, surely they could not have possibly thought they'd get away with itUpdate: Amazon has refunded it at their expense (they paid shipping) and also credited me with an extra $20 - nice!

I had the same problem described by Tim and Saudor.Evem worse, I went on the Amazon webside to see the description of the item shipped. In the description field under "electronics", I entered the name of the 80 GB model shipped which is "wd800beve". I was surprize to see the description of the WD10JPVT 1TB 2.5 hard drive coming up! When doing the search on the wright model "wd10jpvt", I get the right item. I'm sure that their database was mixed up with the two models. I asked to get the item replaced and I was told in the middle of the process that the item could not be replaced since it was out of stock. The item was finally credited and I am now waiting for another model I ordered in replacement of the 1 TB initially ordered. I went on Amazon and the search for wd800beve is now returning the right info. |
