Wonderful collection of "early" material. It is hard to go wrong with this set. Beware however that it is only TWO discs. The extra pricing is for the package!

5.0 out of 5 stars GOLDEN, Sept. 20 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Rolled Gold (Audio CD)
My new copy of ROLLED GOLD+ arrived in the mail
today. It's the expanded version of the solid compilation that
Decca/abkco put out 36 years ago. The expanded version features 40
peerless songs, singles primarily, to give the history of the Stones
from 1963 to 1971. It's a breath=taking story where just about
every single marks some improvement or surprise. Each leap, from
Rhythm & Blues purists to earnest songwriters, social commentators
to sonic innovators, roots revivalist to classic rockers, can be
charted in the singles that they crafted. The development from COME
ON through SATISFACTION and on to the STICKY FINGERS singles is
simply mind-boggling.

Previous compilations have either been too narrow (HIGH TIDE),
spotty or diluted (HOT ROCKS, MORE HOT ROCKS) or too broad (40
LICKS) to tell this key chapter in rock history. Only the triple
disk LONDON YEARS gives a more complete picture (by adding b-sides
but also including some flawed versions and padding). What ROLLED
GOLD+ gets right are the songs and the sound: no inferior
substitutions (like the poorer version of TELL ME on previous sets)
plus detailed remastered mono and stereo mixes that finally bring
coherence to some previously messed up arrangements (RUBY TUESDAY, HAVE YOU
SEEN YOUR MOTHER BABY, 19TH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN). Key album cuts have
been included (I'M FREE, YESTERDAY'S PAPERS, SYMTHATHY FOR THE
DEVIL, GIMME SHELTER) but it's the singles-only cuts that make this
set solid and complete (I WANNA BE YOUR MAN, DANDELION, WE LOVE YOU,
JUMPIN' JACK FLASH & HONKY TOMK WOMEN).

The black and gold package is handsome, with a concise essay from
Pierre Perrone. My only (minor) quibble is that HONKY TONK WOMEN is
slightly out of chronological order (jammed near the end between
BROWN SUGAR and WILD HORSES instead of coming between BEGGAR'S
BANQUET and LET IT BLEED cuts). This set sounds great on my stereo
and will be exciting in my car!

This 40 track compilation covers the first 10 years of the Rolling Stones career. The sound quality is totally amazing. If your looking for a great compilation of the older Stones music this is the one to get. Beats the pants off the Hot Rocks collections.Has 12 more songs than the original Rolled Gold from 1975!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's got it all... well, pretty much, May 28 2009
This review is from: Rolled Gold (Audio CD)
The best CD for the Rolling Stones I've seen yet. The price is worth it, as it boils down to 50 cents a song, and there's no garbage in the track listing either(not saying that isn't rare for such a great band). Sound quality is perfect, no fuzz or anything. The only track I wished was on here was Beast of Burden, but I'll live without because my new love is for Brown Sugar.

Great for a first-purchase of the band, or if you're just trying to pad your library with some classic rock.
