This compilation is a perfect introduction to cab calloway. The cd has a large number of great songs, like "boo-wah boo-wah", "minnie the moocher", and "a chicken aint nothin but a bird." The sound is also excellent, its not like the majority of recordings from this era. I personally feel this lacks a few key songs like "reefer man", "jumpin' jive" or "we the cats shall help you", but it's real solid anyways. Not to mention you can't beat the price. Go ahead and pick it up, you won't be dissapointed. I suggest you go ahead and pick up "best of the big bands" for cab calloway also.

this is a fantastic CD. Cab Calloway and his band really knew how to swing. (they are one of my four favorite swing bands of the era, along with Count Basie, Duke Ellington and Jimmy Lunceford). Good music always holds up, and this music is as fresh today as it was when it was recorded.
