Edited review: I wanted to like this DVD. I got good results in Level 1 - lost 10 lbs, actually, in a month - but had to make some modifications for shoulder pain (which I hadn't experienced before).

Level 2 has introduced my knees to a totally new pain. There are a *lot* of fast, compound, knee-challenging moves, one after the other. I do actually know good form for squats and lunges and even compound moves - have had trainers in the past - but couldn't keep it together while doing a shoulder press in a 30 second set. I have come to the conclusion that compound moves should be done slowly - certainly not in a breakneck, circuit-style workout - with aerobics left for another day. Or else, that circuit workouts should use single movements with cardio.

A DVD explicitly designed for and marketed to beginners should be *very* careful about instruction. I know people can always research form etc, but in practice they're more likely to just go for it. Just because Jillian Michaels has charisma and hype doesn't mean she shouldn't have some kind of duty of care to beginners. The cameras are focussed on Natalie (advanced) and Jillian most of the time, with the modified exerciser getting less screen time - and that, late in the segment. Plus, modification instructions also come late.

I've got a reasonable amount of fitness knowledge, as a 15-year gym vet (often lapsed, true, but have done many classes and training sessions in that time, and had several 2-3 year bouts of consistent exercise). So I know what to pay attention to, how to visualize, etc. And I still felt pain.

I shudder to think what an enthusiastic novice without this background knowledge could do to herself.

Another Jillian Michaels plan. She seems to be everywhere, but it's no different than her other ones or other people's.

Last April, I bought 2 Jillian Michaels's videos and none of them is readable.
_________

After doing a lot of Jackie Warner workouts, I thought I would try something new. I was highly disappointed with Jillian Michaels method and DVD in general. There are ALOT of impact exercises here, not so good for ANYONE WHO HAS OR HAS HAD A KNEE ISSUE. I went straight to the Level 3, it was too short to get a full workout. Many of her exercises can be dangerous if you are slightly tired ie. doing a plank with hands resting on weights and then balancing on one arm and pulling the weight up to your shoulder height. (that's a good way to twist a wrist or put out a shoulder). Her method is scattered, and she doesn't indicate which muscle to focus on like Jackie does. The workout feels very incomplete. The demonstrators on the dvd, seem tired and take a long time to pop up after being on the mat. I wasted my money on this one, and will return my other Jillian DVD, before I open the package.

I started with level 1 on you tube ..really liked it... level 2 is only available on the CD. I ordered it from Amazon ..it was on sale ..first CD did not work ..defect I went through all the "hoops" to return it since I really liked the workout and wanted the CD . Today I got my 2nd "replacement" CD .. same problem again.. probably cheap copies made in China !!! I want my money back and will not order again!!!What a waste of my time!!!

I was actually disappointed with this. I guess I didn't realize the workouts were only 20 minutes long and felt that some of the excercises were not good if you had any sort of knee injury. I have used a lot of different excercise dvd and I felt this one was really lacking in variety and motivation. The set of Jari Love Get Ripped series is much better and easier to modify into whatever time frame you have available to workout.

i read all the reviews and bought this dvd. but i really regret that decision. All the workouts are way too short and i did not break into a sweat at all. the concept is good but if the workouts were more intense and longer in duration it would be worth the money.

DON'T DO IT! I am about 130-135lbs and I thought this DVD would be a great way to lose the extra 7/8 lbs I was going for. However because I knew that I was probably smaller than others who might want to lose weight this way, I was rather sceptical - a body changing that fast can't last, right?

Within the first week of doing the easy level, I was amazed at how sore my body was and how I could already feel my muscles toning up - and this was only after a few days!

Soon however, the novelty wore off, and I was waiting for that dramatic shift in weight to begin. I began to loathe the woman yelling at me to keep going, when I was dying for breath and my muscles were burning. I could barely finish the 'easy' level without stopping for breath at least once throughout the intense 20 minute workout, let alone successfully complete level 2 without feeling as if death itself was at my door (or coming from my television screen, at least.)

It's not entirely friendly to the user. You're bouncing around - feeling very conscious of the extra weight jiggling around with you - whilst you watch the impossibly trim, smiling poster-girls-for-exercise-addiction barely break a sweat, as they flaunt their perfect (and probably unattainable abs) in your red, sweaty face.

Furthermore, it's unrealistic to do 20 minutes of strenuous cardio/toning exercises a day. You'll change your body and then, what? Go back to your old routine now that you've reached that perfect (or as near as you can get with the horrific workouts on this DVD) figure? Might as well go to the gym or swim two or three times a week; you'll reach your goal slower, but it will be maintained for longer. Unless your a total masochist, with an affinity for cyborg-esque trainers (think Terminatrix bouncing around on your television, telling you what to do), I would recommend staying away from this DVD - unless a heart-attack is right up your street, too.
