Great Intro to Sigur Ros,
By Matt (Ontario) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Meo Suo I Eyrum Vio Spilum End (Audio CD)
This may be the first time I ordered something that Amazon had in the 'Recommended for You' section...and I'm really glad I did. This is one of the few CDs that I have been able to put in, and on my first time through, listen to the whole thing without having the urge to skip over a song. I don't think everyone would have the same experience, but fans of Arcade Fire and even Sufjan Stevens should definitely give this album a try.First things first: the language difference is not an issue. I like to think that most people recognise good music when they hear it, so don't let this be a deterring factor in your decision (I mention this because one reviewer on Amazon.com seemed to be traumatised by the fact that they had been 'swindled' into buying a CD by a non-English group). The music itself is hard to describe. It can be meditative, inspiring, complex, and exciting depending on when you listen to it. I guess I'll have to describe it by saying that it is not formulaic, it's not the garbage that is pumped into the mass market on a regular basis, and it IS extremely well written. I think it's something that you have to experience. This album opens with a bang - Gobbledigook really left me wanting to hear more. I wish I had time to describe each track, but even if I did, I doubt I would be able to find the right words to describe them to you. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this album could be a great intro to the band for people who aren't completely used to this genre. Long-time Sigur Ros fans might disagree, but that's the way I see it. Oh and as a side note, I'll let you know that as I write this I have two other albums, Takk... and () on the way. Happy listening, everyone.

Stunningly beautiful music. The only missing piece is their wonderful videos. One could easily be sitting in a small beautiful ancient building in rural Iceland being taken on a a very interesting and magical journey.

Not quite as good as previous albums...,

Sigur Ros took a bit of a detour in this album, compared to their previous albums. I'm a HUGE Sigur Ros fan, my favourite album is probably Takk (although it's hard to choose...). This is most certainly not my favourite...that wasn't difficult to decide. Some songs are really great and classic Sigur Ros, but the more 'upbeat' songs really missed the mark, in my opinion.
