Didn't Like it Enough to Keep Watching
on May 12, 2011
To give you an idea of my tastes, my top picks for TV in recent years have been: Dexter, Boston Legal, Big Bang Theory, Buffy & Angel, and Veronica Mars. A friend recommended Fringe to me, but unfortunately I didn't like it much. I'm a skeptic, so maybe that's part of the reason. Also, I found the female FBI protagonist quite bland. I did like the younger male character. Another thing that bothered me about Fringe were the torture scenes (which I found somewhat gratuitous). I don't consider myself especially squeamish (I'm a fan of Dexter, remember) but I don't like feeling emotionally manipulated. Fringe is, in my view "weird and disturbing for the sake of being weird and disturbing."
I've noticed that most TV show reviews on Amazon (unlike the book reviews) are created by loyal fans of the show who take offense to anyone who dislikes or criticizes their favorite show. So ignore all the "not helpful" marks this review will undoubtedly get. This show is not for everyone. If you don't like Horror, you probably won't like it. If you're a skeptic who doesn't believe in ESP, telekinesis, astral projection and the paranormal, you may not like it either. Also I definitely don't recommend it for kids or young viewers.
