BHPA454 - A Tough Hammer Drill,
By Alexandre Nassif "A. Nassif" (Edmonton, AB, Canada) - See all my reviews (TOP 1000 REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Makita BHP454 18-Volt LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless 1/2-Inch Hammer Driver-Drill kit (Tools & Hardware)
I have owned this drill for 4 months and I can say it is very tough and has by far exceeded my expectations. Its hammer function is tougher than that of my corded hitachi hammer drill. Last weekend I drilled 4 1/2 inch holes in concrete and while going through 3 mansory bits, this drill made the holes as easy as if I were drilling wood (I had 3 bits break but the drill just goes and goes). I was impressed - this cordless makita left my corded hitachi in the dust - literally!Pros: - Extremely powerful. Be careful with your wrists! - Hammer function is impressive - best drill I have ever used, including corded hammer drills. - Selector between hammer function, regular drilling and driving. Excellent torque adjustment for each of those functions. - Excellent ergonomics Cons: - The chuck is a little wobbly (this is a common problem to all cordless drills though, and I am used to that). - The drill is a little too heavy for overhead driving use, especially because of the "fat" 3Ah battery. I recommend you buy this in a combo with the impact driver, which is much lighter and more suitable for overhead use. |
